"Never Be the Same" is my second favorite Christopher Cross song, after Arthur's Theme. It doesn't get any play anymore, but it's a very underrated gem.
The person that wrote the lyrics presumably Christopher Cross as the song has four writers credited, said that the line "When you get caught between the moon and New York City" was inspired by a delayed landing circling over New York City. So they were literally caught between the moon and New York City.
Christopher Cross is an honest anomaly. This album released in 80 or 81 I believe. He swept the Grammys, every major award. Unfortunately he was around when MTV started and didn't get the air time he deserves. After battling COVID last year and beating it he still tours.
I feel so good to find somebody reacting to stuff like this from my generation this was my era… Thank you for having the respect and the good taste of exposing yourself to such awesomeness from the 80s and Christopher Cross is one of the top ones without a doubt!
And here we are AGAIN . . . musically inside that incredible chronological pocket of the late 70's / early 80's, of which Christopher Cross was no small contributor. For some unexplainable reason, there was a certain saxophone sound that was happening back in that era that was so very bittersweet. But maybe that's just me looking back, with a bag full of regrets.
The name of the movie is simply "Arthur". The one starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli. Awesome movie. The remake with Russell Brand doesn't even come close to doing it justice.
Christopher Cross is definitely in the guilty pleasure realm, unfortunately. He just doesn’t get the respect he deserves. My favorite song of CC’s is ‘Never Be The Same’. It’s a fast tempo song that to me, feels like a ballad. After watching this, I now want to watch the movie ‘Arthur’ again now. Been a loooong time since I’ve seen it. Great channel Angela! Spent the last week chronologically catching up with your reactions. 🤓
"Arthur" is a love story starring Dudley Moore as a wealthy, alcoholic heir and Liza Minnelli as a sassy, working-class girl who meet in the men's department of Bonwit Teller dept. store in NYC. The song "Arthur's Theme" is by Burt Bacharach, Linda Bayer Sager, and Peter Allen.
I get nostalgic about that movie, not because it was that great; but having a hit theme song like this coming on the radio all the time made it extra impactful. Also, 81’ was the end of an era when there were certain “must see” movies that made theater-going fun. Movie rental stores became popular a few years after “Arthur”, so I think it might have been the last “ It “ movie for me , before there were hundreds and thousands of movie options.
Yes I agree you, I remember as a kid back in the late 70s and early 80s looking in the newspaper for the movie times and looking at the pictures ads. Simple things like that are gone today 🤔
Love both the song and the movie. I always felt like they had most of the song written but just adapted it to for the movie which includes the verse where they specifically talk about Arthur.
Beautiful song written by Burt Bacharach Carole Bayer Sager Peter Allen and Christopher Cross! Great sax solo by Ernie watts ! Toto rhythm section Jeff Porcaro David Hungate and Steve Lukather percussion by Lenny Castro Love the piano by Micheal Omartian who produced the track!
Written by CC, Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager + late Peter Allen. Based on a real accident. But used for the movie Arthur. The New York reference + the reference to Arthur are proof! 😃 Part of a verse sounds similar to Even the Nights Are Better played by Air Supply. Suggested videos: Air Supply. Even the Nights Are Better. Christopher Cross. Thinking of Laura. 😭 RIP Peter Allen, Dudley Moore.
Angela, did you ever check out the movie? It's a classic, you'll love it I'm sure! But be sure that you watch the original 1981 version with Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli.
The song writer, Peter Allen, wrote this song while he was sitting in the airplane flying over NY city. That's why he said, if you get caught between the moon and NY city...
Never took the time to Watch the Video. I always listened to to the Record. But I Love this Song!! It's definitely a Great Tune of the 80s. The Movie says a lot to Understand the Song.
Yup...this is a special one. A gorgeous song, a unique voice, he has his own niche. No one else sounds like him and boy could he compose and perform some great songs.
Arthur was a pretty good movie. They made two of them. Without spoiling the movie I'll put it like this...It's a lot like Billy Joel's "uptown girl" song. . . only with reversed rolls. :p
Tough one to react to if you haven't seen the movie since he's referring to a character in it (Arthur hilariously played by Dudley Moore). Arthur is in love with Linda (Liza Minnelli). The song makes much more sense after you see it.
The movie arthur is so funny the Dudley moore original who plays a drunk playboy about to inherit 750 million dollars if he marries the girl his family have chosen Wonderful theme tune to
Hey Angela , love your show , make my lonely time easier, but I want make a request....... The Allman Brothers Midnight rider thanx for you and your show God bless
"Never Be The Same" is a Christopher Cross song I believe you'll also love. And if you can, I' really like to see what you think of "Everything I Own" by Bread. Your sensitivity and authenticity are a pleasure to see. My favorite "Reactor".

This song won the Oscar for best song in 1982. It's from the movie "Arthur". Which was a very big comedy hit in 1981.
The film was called "Arthur", starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli (also John Gilgud as his butler). Came out in 1981, I believe.

Christopher Cross is one of my favorite singer/musicians. And if you haven't seen the movie I highly recommend it.
You have taste. Christopher Cross has one wonderful voice.

ARTHUR WAS A GREAT MOVIE

What a great song. And one of the greatest films ever!
Dudley Moore played the perfect drunk. Mwah! Perfection!
He had perfected it from his Pete & Dud days with Peter Cook in the `60`s.
Your beautiful inside and out.....I can tell....you lead with your heart....the only way to be....🌝
"Never be the Same," or "Say You'll Be Mine" are both amazing songs by Christopher Cross as well.
Always liked "Never be the Same." Sad love song but very touching.
I just rented the movie "Arthur" the other night and watched it again for the bajillionth time.

The song "Arthur's Theme" is by Burt Bacharach, Linda Bayer Sager, and Peter Allen.
Hi, Christopher Cross is also listed as a Songwriter as was Carol Bayer Sager. Thanks.

So funny when Linda (Liza Minnelli) walked into Arthur's living room and said, "I like a living room you can land a plane in."
Great movie, one of my favorites. "Arthur".
This song always made me happy and sad at the same time 😏❤
Always loved this song, to me Christopher Cross is like comfort food for my soul.😊
