We need to make some big gaskets for the timing gear cover and more! We also address some viewer questions in the process. Overall, progress continues on the 1939 Cat D4 agricultural crawler. 4G9986 "Lil Lefty" has never been so much fun and fulfilling. I hope you enjoy the shop talk, banter and commentary.
We are operators pretending to be mechanics!
Thanks for watching!
Regards,
Aaron & Greg "The cleaner"

Your banter is half the reason your podcast is so enjoyable! Keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoy, thanks for everything Tom!
Nice job you all it's coming along just fine
"Cost prohibitive" That phrase is pretty much thevway I live. Living on a disability retirement has really reinforced all of my grandpa's teaching. If it is posible I do it myself and I fix stuff instead of replacing any time I can. I used to tease grandpa about being tight, but he was right! I think watching guys like you two just make it seem like the right way to think. I love watching you guys!
We've always been behind the curve with our budget. I think my grandfather and great-grandfathers experience during the Depression definitely imparted those traits on us. Make do with what you have. Much like you say, we realized the labor is free and the parts are not! 😊 Much appreciate the kind words!
Aaron and “The Cleaner”, Squatch and Squatch Sr., and Watch Wes Work and his Dad are my favorite son and father combos! Keep up the good work!
New parts are great when you have a new budget. My dad always said “poor man got poor ways”. He was only partially kidding.
Very true! Trouble is, even with the budget some of the parts just don't exist anymore. 😊
@@lifeafterourloss hey, I may have said this in the past but I really enjoy watching you and dad together. Having lost mine in 2019, what I would give…
@dwjr5129 God bless you my friend! It makes me happy to know that others gain some value in the channel reviving good memories! I do recall you mentioned your father and am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for coming along on this crazy journey with us! 😊
Excellent work by the cleaner, he had some valid concerns. If your installing the oilpump back, but some oil into it and turn it over so it will start sucking as soon as you start turning the engine over. Cam looks nice and reusable.
Twice now I've experienced that exact same feeling of nervousness while making sure to get that intermediate cover gasket JUST RIGHT because if I messed something up there, most of the engine is going to have to come back apart again lol
Two things that I've also found with the comments section is that -
#1 They're always really quick to spend someone else's money, no matter if it's a $300 each set of cylinder liners or a $40K top of the line firewood processor - I've read both of those comments over on my channel too 😂
#2 Once they see you put Glyptal on one thing, they're going to want to see it on EVERYTHING almost like it's "Frank's Red Hot" hot sauce - if you know what the slogan is for that stuff lol 😏 I've even been questioned why I didn't Glyptal the insides of the water jacket housings, and had to explain how paint layers reduce the heat transfer effect so it wouldn't be a great idea. That's OK though, it lets me know that they're watching 👍
This comment made our day! (And made us laugh) Sounds like most of the comments are par for the course what this type of content. Glyptal IS the Frank's Red Hot of tractor rebuilding, 😂! I've came to the conclusion that even bad comments are comments nonetheless and still help the algorithm. I appreciate everything and thanks for the channel membership.
Boy just when I was thinking hey I can comment on the Cleaners blue gloves and matching toque he goes and changes to his orange toque but I guess he wanted to make sure that all the ladies in his fan noticed him.
Sometimes I wonder if you’re having more fun critiquing the Cleaner than working on the project but I guess this episode has settled one thing and because you gave the Cleaner a B- We know Aaron is the journey men and the Cleaner is the apprentice 😀🇨🇦
Gasket looks great, maybe you could go into business as an aftermarket supplier lol
At our pace I think we would make below minimum wage making gaskets. 😂🤣😂
You're a smart man don't ask your wives😂lol
If you have an unusable sleeve. There are places like LA sleeve that might with a sample be able to duplicate them since there seems to bea lot of interest.
There are a lot of piston manufacturers that do custom pistons off samples . Think CP pistons. And places like pacific piston rings in culver city ca that has been around forever. Its just a thought
Thanks Wayne we will check them out in the future. I have a couple of sleeves and pistons that are not in terrible shape. They would make great patterns. 👍
