- Today I worked on the loving project and did a compression test to see how much of a damage the engine got on the inside. Turns out it’s quiet the shot. Not that bad of wearing out. So we did a little bit with the choke cable and the bike was running like a sun (a famous Dutch saying). So I’m pretty happy about it :D BRAAAAAAAAAP
FYI:
The bike I’m working on is a 1991 Honda NX250 Dominator. My plan is to go and ride enduro with this bike. The bike is about 25 years old and in my opinion in a bad shape. Everything is working fine but it is not fantastic. It seems the previous owner was not handling his bike with care. Doing the maintenances on this bike means a lot of swearing, violence against the bike and a hell of frustration. A lot of times I have no clue what I’m doing so I got the help from my brother, some friends and UA-cam. I got this project because I wanted to learn more about technique and maintenances on bikes. I did not know it was so much work :’) But still I really like to do it and I hope in the end everything will just work fine. ❤The best NX.
I came across an 88 NX250 last August that I bought for $700. It had only 2300 miles on it! Except for the seat cover killed by sun through a garage window,it was as new. Had never been dropped , and not a scratch on it. A gem! Very good street bike for around town and short highway trips,say 250 miles if you like,and it has quite a "cool" factor . Did you know the 250 is unique in that its engine,unlike the NX125 and NX650,has a Dual Overhead Cam design,like the 750four street bikes ,whereas the other two have only an XR\XL like Single Overhead Cam ? Plus a six speed tranny that makes me wish my Kawasaki KX250 and 500 race bikes had one also. As an experienced motocross racer of some success,I must tell you that delightful street bike this may be,it is not at all dirt worthy, and is a very poor choice for a competition enduro bike. The tire size bears this out,and an attempt at any other off road trail more difficult than a smooth flat fireroad will drive the point home in about 50 feet. Do yourself a favor and keep the NX on the pavement,and get yourself a Kawasaki KDX200 for your enduro machine. One 89 or newer and if older,at least new enough to be water cooled. These are the most reliable,easy to ride and maintain bikes ever built,with years of experience by tuners to make it perfect for you or anybody. Usually already is unless you are 300lbs or 6'5" tall. Good luck! And always,ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET! It was plain foolish to ride a bike unfamiliar to you with unknown mechanical condition even 10 feet bareheaded! I won't even start a bike without one since I saw a bike with a stuck throttle from faulty maintenance,loop over and crush the bare head of the tank top tennis shoe wearing guy who did not know how to insert slide into carb correctly. Be safe,have fun. And think!

in December of 2016 I also began to restore my Honda AX-1, to go away of honeymoon with my lady. Luckily for March we were able to finish it and go on a trip. 4000km by Argentina. Now she is pregnant and that was her last motorcycle trip, but she misses it. I keep making short trips. We have a Facebook group of the Honda Nx250 Argentina. Regards !

Goed gaat het sowieso wel komen. Duurt misschien iets langer dan je van te voren hoopt, maar zolang je aan dingen sleutelt kan je dingen blijven verbeteren.
Toen je hem op 5:52 startte liep hij direct wat aan de hoge kant. Toen je een beetje gas gaf bleef hij hoog in de toeren hangen en zakte hij langzaam naar beneden. Bij 6:13 leek hij ook hoog in de toeren te blijven hangen waarna het even duurt voor hij zakt.
Daarna als je gaat rijden klimt hij heel makkelijk in toeren en kan je er best makkelijk hard mee weg rijden. Bij het verder afstellen van de motor moet je je (tenminste dat is mijn optiek) vooral richten op dat hij op langzaam goed rijden. Als de motor onder de 15-20 km/h goed handelbaar is en niet zo in de toeren klimt ben je een heeel stuk verder.
Het hoger in de toeren klimmen kan simpelweg door een vervuilde carburateur(dat ga je al aanpakken) komen of doordat de CDI een beetje ontregeld is. Dat komt misschien wel door een slechte gas kabel. Omdat de gaskabel er teveel druk op zet kan de CDI denken dat hij meer benzine moet inspuiten.
Met schoonmaken van de carburateur en eventueel nieuwe gaskabel denk ik dat je al heel ver komt. Maar je weet het nooit met motoren. Hoe meer problemen je hebt, des te meer je er van leert. Veel succes en veel plezier, ik zit op het puntje van mijn stoel te wachten op deel 2 ;)

de uitlaat is een dragend deel van het subframe. het is verstandig de uitlaat te controleren, als die aan de achterkant is weggerot zul je een frame versteviging moeten maken en een vervangings uitlaat.
be4t.nl Oeh goeie tip! Het is allemaal inderdaad een beetje verrot/verroest. Dus het moet sowieso behandelt gaan worden 🙈
de nokkenas spanner is ook een "gevoelig" onderdeel. verder zijn het heerlijke en zuinige brommertjes. in Japan zijn ze als ax1 verkocht geloof ik, voor als je de onderdelen hier niet meer kan krijgen...

@@AnneBikergirl Im from the United States. I live in Oregon, which is north of California on the west coast. Its very green up here. Lots of forests. I am actually in the market for my first bike. I am looking for a small discplacement dual sport, like a dr200, and maybe put matching 17s on it so its a mini supermoto. Really it all depends whats available on the used market. XT250 would also be cool. Anything particular you might reccomend? The bike would be used to have fun and commute around town. I dont have a huge budget to work with and i have no experience riding.

Anne Bikergirl heb je een droge en een natte test gedaan? als die twee goed op elkaar lijken dan is een wat lager compressie niet echt denderend.
Thedutchrockstar Nee heb ik niet gedaan, dus dat moet ik nog een keer doen. Als het verschil groot is, is er idd veel meer aan de hand.. maar moet ook nog met warm blok testen, had met koud gedaan. Schijnt ook verkeerde uitslag te geven. Dus dat gaan we nog doen als ie weer in elkaar zit 🙈
Anne Bikergirl koud blok is inderdaad niet slim. als er verschil in zit betekend ook niet het einde van de wereld hoor. meestal kom je dan met een hoon en wat nieuwe zuiger veertjes al een heel eind!
