As I get older……Just yesterday I told a close friend if I croak, go grab my knife collection. I realized seeing your video how much value, sentimental or not, I place on my sharp belongings. Recently had a conversation with an older friend who expressed a lot of anxiety about her “antique valuable” material belongings and what would happen to them if she passed. The very fact is we all will leave behind our trophies or material goods. But I’m determined to squeeze every last inch of satisfaction from my ownership of these things and not worry about what happens to them when I’m gone.
That is a good healthy outlook. I'm not worried about what happens after I'm gone, I just don't want my family burdened with having to deal with stuff they have absolutely no understanding of or appreciation of and getting screwed at the estate sale. Thanks for watching the great comment.
@@knifetimestory I've read many times collectors of various things telling the future seller to please not sell them for what I told my Wife I paid them for LOL!!! KnifeMaker

You nailed it. Maintain order. My life was getting a little out of order. This is just resetting the hard drive sort of speak. A hard reset on an iPhone...except my mind and mental health and happiness.

Good luck with that resolution Tom. I made that resolution last year myself. I usually keep them if I take the time to come up with one, but that fell flat by third week of January 23. So I added thousands of dollars more to my collection. I am trying to put my finger on what drives this obsession but the finger keeps getting cut. Anyways I made same resolution again this year. But somehow I’ve not added a Junglas to my Esse collection. How can it be complete without that. Wait a minute…that’s the problem, it’s unending and there’s no way to own them all. Yikes. You need professional help followed up with intense group therapy. Ha!! I actually do have good willpower, but also have a slight caveat up my sleeve. My channel is not going anywhere. I've worked too hard to build it to this point. Things are going to change a little, but it will still be stories about knives!!!
Your personality and sense of humor are reason I subscribe and watch. Same as all the other guys that tune in for your videos. Whatever you run with I will keep watching and learning and laughing. I don’t know what you’re wanting from your channel but whatever it is I hope it happens for you.
You just made my day and... reaffirmed my desire to keep doing this. I actually do enjoy it and secretly wonder to myself why anyone in their right mind would want to watch it. But, alas, I do them and I get a kick out of doing them and it thrills me that there are enough people out there who for whatever reason get something out of my being an idiot, that it keeps growing, albeit at a snail's pace. Which beats the alternative.
I totally agree with EVERYTHING you’re saying and I’ve been through this EXACTLY!!! Wow ❤️ I’m also down to 3, and the multitools sometimes slip into my boycotts .. I probably had 100, and had been collecting since I was 8-when I had 22. I literally said, “what you own owns you” to a friend… I now have a bark river bravo 1, and got rid of my garberg, my bk2, and SO MANY of all my high end folders from bench made, Spyderco, and SOG..etc I had like a dozen Leatherman high end tools, etc… I just turned into Santa clause and started gifting them out, and you should have seen the wide eyes with all the bench mades-especially the AFI, etc.. Nic Groniger made my last two, which are small length tanks with thick spines.. Thank you, Fam We have so much in common 😂
This is great. Thank you. Sounds like your culling has been well thought out and pleasing to you and anyone who received a knife. Very cool. I'll have to look up Nic. I like checking out custom makers. Thanks for watching and taking the time to add great stuff to the conversation. I appreciate it.
I am on the same trip!! Bought my "last knife" on Dec.31 2023 online. A german manufactured OTTER Hippekniep small, with carbon blade and grenadill wooden scales. This knife is the german answer to the Case Sodbuster. In addition to that I will add a daily note in my diary " No Knife Bought Today!!" I hope that I can appreciate the beautifull knives I have. Wish me luck. Best Tom, best regards from Germany ;-)
Thank you for the great comment. I truly wish you luck on the resolution and sincerely hope you enjoy your new knife. I'll Google it to see what it looks like...but NOT buy it. Ha! Thank you for the German Greeting!!
Resolutions are never kept , Just like drinking alcohol or anything else it does not work unless you really have a strong will to do so and keep that promise. I hear the same thing every year and people do not stop eating junk food or exercise and health or drinking alcohol or drugs and they keep buying knives too. It is a human obsessive disorder addiction and hoarding of knives which just sit in drawers, and most are not used at all just to fondle to look at expensive paper weights that is all. How many knives can you use and rotate it gets ridiculous. If you can sell off part of a collection then that is a good start.
Yep, it is tough. But...I don't have an addictive personality, and a strong willpower. That goes for drinking (none), drugs (none) and smoking (none and never). Exercise, for the last 50 years. I believe I can do this. Thank you for watching and a great comment.
Getting older (ancient), now and kinda in the same boat. then it happened. I became really interested in modern super Steels and testing them. That and Fixed angle Sharpeners. Both not available back when I was making. And as you have probably guessed already, Here we go again! 😁 KnifeMaker
Happy New Year! Don't fret, I'm still going to be here with the channel, just mixing it up a little in my direction. The explanation video is forthwith.
I might be in the process of bonding with my BK 10. The knife does not get a lot of attention it seems. It was good to hear that you like yours. I do not have the Camilus version. Thank you for the video and all the best with your new year resolution. I think you will make it. 👍 Knives can become friends and to have only a few trusted friends is a blessing in life.
Benjamin, very well said. Trusted friends. I like that. I want my trusted friend circle to be smaller, hence more reliable. When I first got my BK10 almost 20 years ago, I knew it was something special. Very little attention from the BK world, so little, that it dropped off the line for years. I'd like to think my talking about it and making them out of BK7's maybe got Ethan talking about it again. Who know. But, if you can pick up a Camillus version, you will be pleasantly surprised at the differences. I did a video about just that subject. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/6ozPB1LYa4k/v-deo.html
I hope your year is a great one, mate. I hadn't planned on buying any new knives but yeah, I fell down the hole again. I bought several between November and now. "I can stop. Just wait. After the next one..."
It is an addiction that needs to be taken seriously. There should be groups like KA (Knives Anonymous), MAKC (Mothers Against Knife Collecting), and so on. I'm not thinking this is going to be easy. But, I'm not going anywhere.
I like this video! New to your channel I enjoy what I'm seeing. Because of you I've got into a daily fixed blade I went with a TOPS Tom Brown Scout the blade shape and style just spoke with me. I will be adding some groves into the handle scales for grip eventually. Before this I carried a 940 for 6+ years daily and still will. I've got a few other folders a Emerson A100 and a Benchmade Adamas as the big folder. Those are my folder options and I've got a Victorinox Alox pioneer and a Cadet as well as 3 regular classic SD for a non scarey knife.
Thank you for your kind words. I very much appreciate it. Have fun modifying your knife. The Tops Tom Brown Scout has always been intriguing to me but I've just never pulled the trigger. Never could convince myself to get either the large or small version. Sounds like a nice folder collection. Thank you for sharing.
Nice vid. My last “no more after these” were three Endura 4s in supposedly high end steel. Added a titanium clip to each. And there they sit. They’re all real nice and shiny and I use them now and then but they fail to meet two of my knife criteria; how much would I care if I lost it and would I replace it? Now I have to add age related stuff, like how long will I have it and how similar is it to other guys? Most of my knives are unsellable so reducing the collection usually means giving them to my kid. He’s polite enough to pretend he likes them.
Haha, I get it! Sometimes you just end up with shiny things that don’t really fit your vibe. Good luck passing those Endura 4s down-hopefully, your kid will come around!
I had a drawer full of expensive knives that I really didn't use. I sold all of them on eBay except a few. Used the cash for other things. My EDC is a Benchmade S90V carbon fiber mini Osborne 940. Outdoor camping knives... usually a Ka-Bar. Also have a Benchmade bushcrafter 162 in S30V. Works fine for me.
I find when I have to much of anything I don’t enjoy them as much when I have just a few. I had at one time 150 fixed blades knives. I had to cull the herd. I’m down to 30 and I enjoy them individually a lot more.
Great point! Glad I'm not alone. You now have over twice as many knives as I do. I still have a couple to cull, but can't get to them since the snow started piling up.
Happy New Year Tom! I tend to thin out my collection from time to time. I'm probably not going to stop buying knives just yet, but I'm pretty happy with my current collection if I was never able to buy another one. Will you make an update video showcasing the "survivors"?
The “haunted knife” coming from what I would consider a pragmatic man peaked my curiosity. Don’t worry knife makers I seemed to have picked up the accumulating torch.
Ha!!! I'm sure my moratorium is not going to hurt any makers or dealers out there. The Haunted knife story is kinda cool, yet eerie at the same time. Someday I'll do a video while wearing a Cross and holding a bottle of Holy Water while sitting on a Bible.
I've a moderate collection and some passed down from my father and grandfather, make some of them myself. Good knives last for generations and the collection just grew. They've sentimental value and hard to part with, though I rarely use them. Sometimes, I wonder if I am born in the wrong time.
Personally I use a $6 utility knife from discount table at Tractor Supply. I cut up my Amazon boxes when the blade gets dull I replace with a 25 cent replacement blade. But do admire your awesome knife collection, especially your father’s.
I love knives...good luck man. I've done this before. Honestly i like building my own from blanks, its cheaper and fullfilling. But never buying another knife... ? I cant even commit my mind too thst lol 😂
I was at a breaking point mentally with the over abundance of cutlery in my life. I am also a maker, and sincerely loved making them and coming up with a design I thought I'd love. Looked into being a full-time maker, but when talking to other FT makers 30 years ago, they said that in order to just break even and survive, they had to do no less than 350 a year. That's nuts. No way I wanted to do that. It would take all the joy out of making them. Now I only make 2-3 a year. Some years 0. That is a much better pace for me.
@knifetimestory There's a sickness indeed , I've seen some serious knife junky/hoarders on this platform lately. I'm to poor to get too crazy about them but , I have totally been hooked in the past where I got carried away. Right now I'm looking into hiking and doing two day camps . I get jealous of the guys who get to do that on a regular basis . Gonna buy a USMC Molle2 pack and build up a kit for spring. Take it easy brother, and if ya do buy another knife someday, don't be scared to share it 😉 I love your vids.
That is a great goal. I sincerely enjoy using the 3-5 and 5-4 the most out of the five I have left. But...that being said, I would not be using them like I do had I not modified them.
And the same wishes to you too! Interestingly, I've spent quite a lot of UA-cam time posting on something similar! So, guess what? I'm going to share my somewhat similar views on knives. Firstly, I also favour the 5-knife spread, but split into two sections - heavy carry, and light carry. Heavy carry:- Large knife - This will forever be my Cold Steel Trail Master (San Mai III version), in its Rob Evans (Wales) leather dangler sheath. Belt knife - Now here, I don't have it yet, but this will probably be MY last knife purchase ever. It's the Victorinox Venture Pro (with full kit) bushcraft knife. I'm waiting for the new redesigned sheath which will be coming in shortly this year, and I'm very impatient for that. Multi-tool knife - My Victorinox Swiss Champ will continue in its role of a few decades, as it doesn't really need replacing. It's an old friend! Light carry:- Belt knife - This is the Cold Steel SRK (CPM3V, in sabre grind version). This is the signature survival/camp knife for me. Multi-tool knife - This is the venerable Victorinox Hercules, which serves as a combo bushcraft knife cum multi-tool. It's not perfect, but is serves as a light carry replacement for the two knives I would have if weight were not a major factor. Note: for this to really work well outdoors, I would ALWAYS carry a folding saw: Heavy carry - a Silky Bigboy (or maybe a Gomboy), and light carry, a Silky Pocketboy. I think this loadout has been refined to suit what I might want under most conditions. I'd be interested in your thoughts on this. Cheers mate!
Dennis, fantastic comment. Very well thought out and manageable collection you have there. Very impressed. I like it when there is rhyme and reason in a collection. Keeps it sane and serviceable. Thank you for watching and adding so much to the discussion. I appreciate it.
Thing is, my wife has no issue with a house full of cutlery and could not care less when a steady stream of deliveries land. It just got to be too much. But, I'm still in the knife game. Not going anywhere.
Al lthe custom knives I own, made with ballebaring steel, outperform allmost all my production super steel knives like CPM 3V, even knives made of Elmax, They also never had microchips or rolls on their edges, and they sharpen way faster, than any of the supersteels, Ballbearing is the best option, for either a hunting knife, or any other kind of outdoors fixed blade belt knife. Suprisigly, it also doesn't rust as fast as 1095 or other steels, it's steel like between toolsteels and Carbon steels, I can't describe it better. Having a mirror polish on these steels, helps a lot.
I have to agree. Glad you wrote this. My Scrap Yard 9" has a lot of the paint worn off and the exposed metal takes on no surface rust, while my Becker BK7 with the same amount of paint missing and hanging 2 inches away from the Scrap Yard, does take on a surface rust.
There’s Millions of used serviceable knives to be had for so little investment. Last new knives I bought was early 90’s. A original Cold steel trail master and Recon USA made. Before that it was early 70’s when I bought a couple traditional Buck folders. Sold or gave away all those knives years ago. Last 30 years my approach has been to just pick up great vintage hunters, big folders, pocket knives, and other edged tools for little investment. Those old tools work just fine. I dare say I’m done buying another knife until I run across another great Classic for a few dollars and it’s going home with me.
Great comment. Thank you for sharing. I knew I was in trouble the moment Al Gore invented the Internet and made it that much easier for an addict to get his fix. I went into a big knife store in TX once and walked out empty-handed. It was actually overwhelming.
I found a Busse Combat INFI ? Whatever that is ? But its a good price, has a small chip in the micarta , no sheath... i found a model 14 and 15 5 1/2 inch , oh the 14 is number 55 from the early 90s , ive always wanted a Randall since the 80s , ive got the money all three are priced in the 700 range , i have a bunch of older bucks , K bars , Chris Reeves and microtechs , i do use my stuff , i think these are going to sit next to the Single Acton Colts and Hi Powers
I am fifty one and when I moved to this town from over a thousand miles away I swore I would only own what I could put in the back of a pickup truck except for mountain bikes. Twenty one years later I still don't own more than I can put in the back of a pickup truck except for my mountain bikes Luckily I sleep on a mat on the floor (back problems) and I worked nights. If I took my guns out of plastic cases it would be no problem.

@@knifetimestory I wanted to know if you ever tried a knife from very good knife co I been looking at them on the fence between izula 2 or one of there's thank you
Okay. ESEE makes great EDC knives. If you want small yet very versatile, the IZULA is tough to beat. The IZULA II is just a wee bit larger and for some, much more comfortable to use. The Xanzudo is stainless if you need that and is a great EDC that really keeps an edge. These are a great start and though some would say they are getting to be too expensive, I say that they are worth it and backed by a company that is out there doing things in the community and giving back.
My honest opinion is Yes! Too thick. That is why I have had lots of them, but they all end up in the bucket because I'm using the 3 instead. Now that thing is a slicer.
Just like all garbage, it went in the bin and then the truck and then the landfill. There are a few in there. I won't sell something I think is a piece of crap and offload it to another unsuspecting person.
Only have one left. It was the one he was using to cut carpet and pry carpet staples out of the floor. I knew that if it could keep cutting carpet, yet be subjected to prying and did not break, he nailed the heat treat and I needed to talk him out of it.
I get what you’re saying, end of the day, nobody is going to be the richest man in the boneyard, if that’s why you collect to keep up with others, I don’t see the point, my collection may be cool, maybe expensive but practical first, learned a lot for50 years of collecting, aquired skills etc, so at my age, now what, lol, enjoyed your vid sir!
Thank you for watching and your great comment. I'm 15 days in and feel great!! The shakes and headaches are gone as well as the nightmares. I think I'm well on my way to being cured.
Yep. Well put. My Knives. I envision my daughter telling my grandchild (who knows, maybe it could happen) "This was Grandpa's knife." That is so much simpler than, here are the buckets of knives and I have no idea which ones he liked or used.
You did a fine job of reshaping the guard and pommel. I would say it has been Lovelesss- Ized. LOL! Proving once again that Loveless was right. Less is often more. ;
Ahhh, good to hear from a Maker. Thank you. Yes, Mr. Loveless did say that. Hence the design of the Dropped Point Hunter. Everything you need, nothing you don't. I appreciate the compliment on my workmanship!!! Thanks very much.
@@knifetimestoryYour very welcome Sir! Mr Bob spent a lot of time teaching me the in's and out's of Knife Making as did his Shop foreman, Jim Merritt. I sure miss those Guy's. Some of the best friends I ever had. KnifeMaker
Ahhh. You lucky devil. Got to actually spend face time with them. You can't ever put a price on that!!! Wow. I was asked to be a dealer about 2 years prior to Jim's passing. I talked to him a few times, very briefly as he was not the sort of guy who gave you the idea he was chatty. :-) On the other hand, Bob's nephew is chatty with a capital "C". Nice guy though. Thank you for letting me know about your experience with them. If you want to elaborate or plug your knives, feel free to leave a detailed comment and I'll pin it to the top.
@@knifetimestory Yeah, Jimbo was kind quiet. He and I would spend many times over an hour on the phone though. Is Mr. Bob, nephew the one running the shop now? I lost touch after my Wife became so ill. I was the one selected by Mr. Bob and Jimbo to carry on when it came to the point they could no longer do it. My Wife was struck a deadly disease with no cure. the State stepped in and takes care of her medical bills. They are horrendous. It hurt Mr. Bob, Jim and I but I had to drop everything to become my wifes care provider. There was no choice. The catch was the State would take care of her medical care but I was not allowed to make Knives any longer. My Wife is the only thing in my life more important to me than my work. Mr. Bob and Jimbo agreed. all that was left to do was disappear from the Knife World. Sure miss it! I hope you got the opportunity to see and handle the two Jr. Bears I made for Mr. Bob and Jimbo. Jimbo said my work was even cleaner than his. High Praise from Jim. Steve Johnson and I collaborated to make the designs ever cleaner. I came up with a way to make the age old solder joint cancer a thing of the past. It really was a game changer. Jimbo hated soldering so the Loveless Shop never went back to it but if you saw either of the two Jr. Bears, you saw the results. Tried to email you but it failed. Grrrrrrrr!!! KnifeMaker/forced to Retired after 47 years in the shop.
I got an email from you. Thank you. Would love to see your work in person. I know Jim was a true man of details and everything I got from them was spot on, except for the sheaths in later years. Leather quality was not consistent.
Snarky answer is that where I put all my trash. Less snarky is it was a piece of crap that had bad Micarta that shrunk and looked like hell and the blade was asymmetrically ground and did not keep an edge. I would not feel right passing that along to anyone.
They have done a wonderful job of marketing. I used to think the same thing, but, over time, and 25+ knives, I learned the hard way that their stuff is very "flashy" but not well executed with asymmetrical grinds of the blade, and handle, swollen micarta, shrunken micarta, cracked wood, blunt tips, improperly heat treated blades and poorly chosen sheaths. For the kind of $ they are asking, none of the aforementioned stuff should be an issue. I no longer own a single BRK. Here is my video where I go into it a little: ua-cam.com/video/8_EY6OiskOA/v-deo.html
@knifetimestory well thanks for the heads up. I love buying knives from any manufacturer so it's good to know which should be eliminated from my list. Is LT Wright good to go in your opinion?
Oh heck yes!!! LT is what BRK wishes they could be. I've had several from LT and each has been perfect in every way. No issues with the knife or sheath. They actually give a crap about their product, whereas BRK has lost sight of that mission, if it really ever had been. Hope that helps.
Jeff. No worries my friend. I'm not going anywhere. Just changing tack a little. Still gonna be all about knives. I just have been overwhelmed with too many "things" in the last couple of years. When we moved in 2021, I thinned out a lot of stuff, now I'm just digging deeper into "my possessions" and keeping only the necessary. I believe this will be very soothing to nerve endings.
@@knifetimestory I can relate. I'm not a bona fide collector (never had the money for starters) but I have sold off a bunch of my modest collection of knives. It felt good (altho there are some blades I now miss). I used the money to buy other outdoor gear that I wanted/needed. It's cyclical for me. Down-sizing does feel good, and I've done it successfully in other areas of my life as well. Good luck Tom. I'll look forward to whatever content you put out, provided I'm still able to play the "Waldorf and Stattler" role... 😁
Glad you can relate. It does feel good. I'm 8 days in and actually catch myself thinking about a knife and that maybe I want to do a handle or blade swap (Spyderco) and then realize..."Oh yea, I don't have those anymore" and I breathe a sigh of relief and go practice my guitar, which is actually a much more useful use of my time. Yes, you are my duo in the box seats!!
Yes...but with a caveat. Stay tuned to see what I may or may not have up my sleeve. The channel is not going anywhere, just maybe juking to the right and left a little. Gonna mix it up a little. Keep it fresh and fun...for me.
Don't worry about wisecracks with me. For the longest time as a child, I thought my name was "Good for nothing, sarcastic, wisecrackin' SOB". The "dropping dead weight" feeling started about a year and a half ago, right after I moved and realized I had taken the time to move so many things. I don't plan on moving again, but I felt like I moved some of the "baggage" that was weighing on me at the old place, and a fresh start was being suppressed. I know that is kinda heavy, but I tried to, in a "light" sort of way to let people know that it is okay to shed the "stuff" and still feel fulfilled. (wow, I better stop now!)
I've sold my 45 year knife collection piece by piece over the last 12 months. I've gotten to a point where I couldn't give a crap about the knife community as all you see is clowns selling old knives for super inflated prices and the same for new knives, the industry has been ruined by ego maniacs. Then you have all the clones on UA-cam doing their little battoning through wood to prove how amazing their knife is and you hardly ever see them use a knife for what it's really intended for. I could go on and on about the cons of the knife community but I don't have a good week to write everything.
That is a very poignant and thought-provoking comment. I agree. That is why most of my videos… I would say 98% of them are with me just talking about different aspects of the knife for history or some modifications. I too am very disenchanted by the knife community. I grew up going to knife shows and getting to talk to you all kinds of makers and it was a very special time. Now the Internet even though it has provided a way for me to have a forum to talk about knives, it has in my opinion to a degree ruined The knife community. Too many con artist, copycats, and people with only a modicum of life knowledge professing to be an expert. Quite frankly… I have forgotten more about knives and the history of them than most people will ever know. Mind you, I have been immersed in this since I was 11 and became a member of the Case Collectors Club when it was first introduced.
The 70s and 80s when hunting for that knife was akin to treasure hunting, looking through magazines and catalogues in an attempt to find that one knife you long for, the adventure you had just to find that one knife. In my case travelling from the country to over 300 kilometres to go to a sports store where you walk in and the owners remember you even after a year or more and the genuine conversations you had back then and the knowledge that was learnt by just shutting your mouth. I agree the net has ruined so much of what we used to be. When you grow up in the bush and use knives on a daily basis, it's hilarious to watch the armchair experts telling me all about knives. Also I have split thousands of logs with an axe and never a knife, that's not what a knife is for. Finding an old knife covered in rust and you get home and give her a good clean up and you feel as though you won the lottery and say to yourself how terrific it is, knowing fully well it's probably only a cheapy but it left a memory and feeling that no new knife could ever fill. Memories of long ago, that sir is the knowledge that is of the most value to me these days. Thanks for the chat old mate. It's much appreciated. All the best from down under.
Nope. My being a Man dried up those funds in a hurry. I can't even look at a can of that stuff. And, my heart really goes out to the poor guy who has to drive the delivery truck in my area that is completely emblazoned with the logos.

But, alas, I do them and I get a kick out of doing them and it thrills me that there are enough people out there who for whatever reason get something out of my being an idiot, that it keeps growing, albeit at a snail's pace. Which beats the alternative.
You said “it’s growing at a snails pace”. That’s what she said
I'm Irish. So I'm used to "that's it?"
I totally agree with EVERYTHING you’re saying and I’ve been through this EXACTLY!!!
Wow ❤️
I’m also down to 3, and the multitools sometimes slip into my boycotts .. I probably had 100, and had been collecting since I was 8-when I had 22.
I literally said, “what you own owns you” to a friend…
I now have a bark river bravo 1, and got rid of my garberg, my bk2, and SO MANY of all my high end folders from bench made, Spyderco, and SOG..etc
I had like a dozen Leatherman high end tools, etc…
I just turned into Santa clause and started gifting them out, and you should have seen the wide eyes with all the bench mades-especially the AFI, etc..
Nic Groniger made my last two, which are small length tanks with thick spines..
Thank you, Fam
We have so much in common 😂

Cheesy puns are always on deck!!! Thanks for hanging out!!
I might be in the process of bonding with my BK 10.
The knife does not get a lot of attention it seems. It was good to hear that you like yours. I do not have the Camilus version.
Thank you for the video and all the best with your new year resolution. I think you will make it. 👍
Knives can become friends and to have only a few trusted friends is a blessing in life.
Here is the link:

@@knifetimestory Thank you for the link, will check it out.
"Just Say No"!!!
Yep, it's tough. But can be done. Good luck my friend.
I think it’s adorable when an addict proclaims they have turned a corner and will no longer be partaking….😂
Ha!! Love it. Adorable. That was funny. I actually LOLed. (not sure how to write that).
Wish me luck. I'm on Day 5. So far so good!!
Nice choice of EDC.
Thank you John. Yes, I will absolutely be showing and telling about the survivors and why they survived and continuing with the channel.
Love your channel brother 👍
Thank you very much. That means a lot.
That's a lot of hot air. Every new years resolution I've made has been nothing but a bunch of Hog Wash ! 😂
I have tremendous willpower. And...a caveat up my sleeve. Stay tuned.
I often think I'm in the wrong era.
Personally I use a $6 utility knife from discount table at Tractor Supply. I cut up my Amazon boxes when the blade gets dull I replace with a 25 cent replacement blade. But do admire your awesome knife collection, especially your father’s.
Thank you. Glad you liked my Dad's. I'm so glad I decided to actually use it and modify it. I'm enjoying it sooo much!!
Thank you very much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. I also hope you get to enjoy your goal of hiking more and building your kit!!
My last conquest is a Randall made . Once I achieve that pinnacle I’m done .
That is a great goal. I sincerely enjoy using the 3-5 and 5-4 the most out of the five I have left. But...that being said, I would not be using them like I do had I not modified them.
Be sure to use it!!! Or someday you will regret it.
Heavy carry:-
Large knife - This will forever be my Cold Steel Trail Master (San Mai III version), in its Rob Evans (Wales) leather dangler sheath.
Light carry:-
Belt knife - This is the Cold Steel SRK (CPM3V, in sabre grind version).
@@knifetimestory Thanks a ton! Glad you liked it!
What about that modified companion? Do you still have it?
Unfortunately, that is gone. Thank you for asking about it though!!!
"I've purchased my last knife." Right. That's the same thing I tell my wife when she finds yet another amazon box in the trash. 🤣🤣
My Scrap Yard 9" has a lot of the paint worn off and the exposed metal takes on no surface rust, while my Becker BK7 with the same amount of paint missing and hanging 2 inches away from the Scrap Yard, does take on a surface rust.
spot on!
Thank you.
Loved your video brother
Glad you liked it. Thank you for watching and taking the time let me know!
I have a tool chest for all my knives. Once it is full I will probably get rid of the least useful just to make room for more knives.
I have always preferred a drop point over a clip point. 🇨🇦
I agree. Overall, they just are more durable and versatile.
I also bought my last knife myself. Its a Spyderco Spydiechef.
If in fact it is your last, you chose well. I have one and LOVE it. I call it my Sebenza Killer. Great knife and worth every penny.
For the last several years, I've said that every time I buy a new knife, guitar or hand tool. Someone help me please! ;)

Not sure what your question is? Would you clarify? Thank you.
I’m doing the exact same thing now
Good to hear. Hope you experience the relief I have felt.
is the esee 4 too thick do be a slicer
My honest opinion is Yes! Too thick. That is why I have had lots of them, but they all end up in the bucket because I'm using the 3 instead. Now that thing is a slicer.

How did the Bark River Gunny end up in a landfill ?
Just like all garbage, it went in the bin and then the truck and then the landfill. There are a few in there. I won't sell something I think is a piece of crap and offload it to another unsuspecting person.
Hey where is the Joey Roman line of knives?
Only have one left. It was the one he was using to cut carpet and pry carpet staples out of the floor. I knew that if it could keep cutting carpet, yet be subjected to prying and did not break, he nailed the heat treat and I needed to talk him out of it.

I got an email from you. Thank you. Would love to see your work in person. I know Jim was a true man of details and everything I got from them was spot on, except for the sheaths in later years. Leather quality was not consistent.
Why would a bark river gunny end up in a landfill?
Snarky answer is that where I put all my trash.
Less snarky is it was a piece of crap that had bad Micarta that shrunk and looked like hell and the blade was asymmetrically ground and did not keep an edge. I would not feel right passing that along to anyone.
@knifetimestory yikes
And I thought bark river was supposed to be premium blades
They have done a wonderful job of marketing. I used to think the same thing, but, over time, and 25+ knives, I learned the hard way that their stuff is very "flashy" but not well executed with asymmetrical grinds of the blade, and handle, swollen micarta, shrunken micarta, cracked wood, blunt tips, improperly heat treated blades and poorly chosen sheaths. For the kind of $ they are asking, none of the aforementioned stuff should be an issue.
I no longer own a single BRK.
Here is my video where I go into it a little:
ua-cam.com/video/8_EY6OiskOA/v-deo.html

@@knifetimestory Thank you for the testimonial. Wisecrack asides I can appreciate that there's a season for dropping the dead weight.

Cudos old fella.
Great comment. Thanks for sharing. I love stories like that and when people share them!!
Lol. No disrespect, but new years resolutions are a curse. This year you relapse after not getting a new knife for 30 days. 😈
LOL. No disrespect taken. I'm really going to try.
Until something new comes out….😂
Ye of little faith. I'm sure I can do it.
Was your knife collection cutting into your Bud light funds? Lol
Nope. My being a Man dried up those funds in a hurry. I can't even look at a can of that stuff. And, my heart really goes out to the poor guy who has to drive the delivery truck in my area that is completely emblazoned with the logos.
This is a heavy knife .... especially in the butt ! 🤭🤭
Yep!!! Notice I did not so much as smirk or balk!!! I'm getting better!!!
👍👍👍.🇺🇲🔪🌲🔥
Thank you!
I would like to see more of the knife and less of you
You and me both!!
🥲🥲🥲 You culled your knife collection and didn’t offer me a chance to help you? 🥲🥲🥲
I must be one of your problem children.
Just kidding, I have been doing the same myself. After 73 years I have just discovered I am a pack rat. 🤷🏻♂️
Nope, you are not on the naughty list!!!
Glad I figured this out now and not at 73. I'd have to be institutionalized.
