Not only is ‘The Legacy’ the best debut album out of these 4 albums… it’s the best Thrash Metal debut album by any band imo! An absolute Thrashterpiece from start to finish! Always good to see you James!🤘🏻
Great video James! Love this ranking concept, please do more of this in the future. Tough one to rank. I think I'd go with this order: 4. Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence 3. Overkill - Feel The Fire 2. Testament - The Legacy 1. Exodus - Bonded by Blood Honestly spot 1 & 2 could change at any time. Really strong albums with brutal riffs. Bonded by Blood blew me away the first listening, absolutely love it. Cheers James 🤘
Third tier awesome debuts: Sacred Reich - Ignorance, DBC- Dead Brain Cells, Forced Entry - Uncertain Future, and Nuclear Assault - Game Over. But I have those 2nd tier albums too.
I can't argue with that ranking at all. 4 superb albums. The Legacy will always be number 1 for new and the others can fight for their places after that on any given day.
The Ultra-Violence is underrated in my opinion. Almost a little too bloody good considering how young they were, just awesome album. Bonded by Blood is my favourite Exodus album, maybe on a different day my decision may change. The Legacy is just ridiculously good, can’t wait to see them live at the end of the year. Overkill did way better albums after the debut, but then, you have to start somewhere. Excellent video once again👌
I recently got a testament box with the first 5 albums in it, like you say a great debut album and the one after it the new order, i will have to check out their later albums, and overkill still making quality albums to this day.
I am a big fan of all four albums, but Bonded By Blood is my favorite thrash debut - period. Beyond that, if I were to rank the other three, it would be like splitting hairs. Really like th em all about the same level.
No joke, I have wanted to do a video on “Third Tier Thrash”as I have been obsessed with the rough, kinda sloppy, low budget metal that I collected back in the late 80s … tapes and records that were dirt cheap in the cut out bins at local record stores,Necrophagia, Mace, Medieval, Piledriver etc.
Awesome ranking James! I'm glad you decided to do the debuts of the not so big 4. I actually haven't listened to Feel the fire yet, but I'd like to pick it up sometime soon! The other 3 are 3 of the best Thrash Metal debuts of all time! They're all just fantastic, but I think I agree with your ranking. I haven't listened to Bonded by Blood for a while though, so could change if I heard it again. Solos are the most important thing for me!! 😂😊🤘🏻🤘🏻
Their all fantastic mate. Feel The Fire is definitely worth a listen. With regard to solo's, the songs have to good. That's the most important thing, if the songs are shite than great solo's mean nothing. Cheers for watching mate as always
@mrboulder9714 Yeah man, all awesome albums! I'll definitely check out Feel the fire, I've wanted to for a while. I've seen you can get the F you EP with it, so I'll probably get that one. Yeah I get that, a great solo can make a song even better. A crap solo can make a song worse in my mind. Some songs don't necessarily need a solo, but I'd prefer to hear a solo in my songs. That's just me! That's probably another reason why I don't like softer music and prefer Rock and Metal. You're welcome mate as always 😊🤘🏻
My picks would be: 1. The Ultra Violence (Death Angel) 2. The Legacy (Testament) 3. Bonded by Blood (Exodus), 4. Feel the Fire (Overkill) I just think that Death Angel debut is totally awesome. 1 - 3 are fantastic albums, a hair between each of them, I can understand that people could have them in any order.
Can't argue with your no 1 it would be mine too although I'd have to put overkill in 2nd spot I'll admit with exodus and death angel i havn't listened to much of either over the years something I'll have to remedy one day!
Good to hear your thoughts on the albums James. I think I may have to agree with you with the ranking, although there's not much in it between Death Angel and Exodus. The Legacy is in a different league, arguably better than any of "the big 4".
Thank you for doing this video. I was hoping that you would and now you have. I've just bought taking over, years of decoy and under the influence, but I haven't got feel the fire yet. All for albums that you have shown are some of my all time favourite thrash metal albums. Did you know that before overkill got signed they was a black metal band. But being that thrash metal was the in thing at that time. Then they changed there style and became a thrash metal band. For me overkill never got there break in the 80's and I feel that they should of done. How would I ranked the album 4th would of been bonded by blood, 3rd would been feel the fire, 2nd would been the legacy and 1st the ultra violence. Speaking of Death angel I first got into through a friend of mine when I was in college. He give an album called speed kills 3. Which had a mix of thrash metal bands IE Exodus Slayer just to name a few. But the song on that album that I just loved straight away was mistress of pain by Death angel. After hearing that song I bought the ultra violence and just loved it. I didn't buy The legacy straight away I bought the new order first and there live EP which some of the songs from there first album and then I bought The legacy. I was thinking that maybe you could a 3rd tier and talking lets say maybe Dark angel, Forbidden, Nuclear assault and Annihilator ? first albums. Or if there are any others that you can think of. Sorry if there is a bit long. But I just wanted you to know how I feel these albums.
I didn't know that Overkill was originally Black Metal. I have that Speed Kills 3, excellent compilation. I do plan on doing a tier 3 video at some point. Cheers for watching and commenting on the video
I recall a Hard N Heavy VHS (remember those?) interview magazine whereby a fresh faced TESTAMENT was told to actually tone down their thrash bpm and tuning for their debut as it was too extreme by their producer 😮 Exodus is my fave and I liked the vocalists acquired taste live performance vocal style. Death Angel is the HANSON of thrash metal though. 🤣
Great brief overview. Interesting to hear a fellow Brit critiquing US thrash - how about a video on the UK variety? What is your opinion on Exodus' "Let There Be Blood", their 2008 re-recording of 1985 debut "Bonded by.."?
I already have plans to do a UK Thrash video which will,be coming soon. I like the re record of Bonded By Blood. Rob Dukes vocals on it are excellent. Cheers for watching and commenting
Bonded By Blood is one of the greatest thrash metal albums of all time imo. Wish Baloff made more studio albums with Exodus as he's my favourite Exodus singer. That said Exodus are one of the few bands where I like all the singers they've had. We have total different opinions on Exodus singers lol. Zetro is my least favorite Exodus vocalist though I still like him. To each their own 🤘
I agree but would probably swap bonded by blood with ultra violence I love testament - first ever of them was their live album , return to the apocalyptic city
Wrathchild America were the band that was gunning for the big stages and arena shows by playing thrash metal that was radio friendly. I called it “Thrash Lite” but it was still pretty good true metal. The band was definitely building a larger audience by touring the metal clubs for a few years . Metallica’s Black Album was exposing the mainstream public to and they were close to getting that big break. But the band was doomed when they took Pantera out on the road and the band was all of a sudden obsolete . Then the grunge movement began, and death metal was the new style for the underground scene and Wrathchild America split up. Some members tried to make a grunge style band called Souls at Zero and that band quickly split up. They did not give up their rock n roll dreams and they became Godsmack and lived happily ever after.
Hi James!!! another cool album ranked video.... i think Exodus debut is a little overrated mostly because of Paul's "character", to me he's the weakest singer of this list. Now looking for to see part III. cheers and be well
Nice vid James, I would have Death Angel #1 Exodus #2 Overkill #3 Testament #4, but my hate for Testament is well known in the VC. 🤣🤣. I think I’m the only person not to like them, anyway mate take care.
Not only is ‘The Legacy’ the best debut album out of these 4 albums… it’s the best Thrash Metal debut album by any band imo! An absolute Thrashterpiece from start to finish! Always good to see you James!🤘🏻
The Legacy is an absolute beast and there's definitely an argument for it being the best Thrash debut. Cheers Marc as always mate
Yet again listening to you is like listening to my own thoughts, like a scary amount. Plenty of more thrash debuts for a part 3 🤘
Must be kindred spirits mate. I've already got a few bands in mind for Tier 3. Need to think of one more band though. Cheers as always Mike
Rigor Mortis are a perfect example of 3rd tier thrash. First extreme metal band signed to a major label (Capitol).
Great video James! Love this ranking concept, please do more of this in the future.
Tough one to rank. I think I'd go with this order:
4. Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
3. Overkill - Feel The Fire
2. Testament - The Legacy
1. Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Honestly spot 1 & 2 could change at any time. Really strong albums with brutal riffs. Bonded by Blood blew me away the first listening, absolutely love it. Cheers James 🤘
Cheers Kenan. Great ranking fella, thanks for sharing it. There are Plenty more of these ranking videos to come mate
The Legacy is one of my favourite thrash debuts.
It's an amazing album, no doubt about it. Cheers for watching
Third tier awesome debuts: Sacred Reich - Ignorance, DBC- Dead Brain Cells, Forced Entry - Uncertain Future, and Nuclear Assault - Game Over. But I have those 2nd tier albums too.
I have some ideas for the 3rd Tier Thrash video, thanks for these recommendations. Cheers
Good ranking of the 2nd Tier American thrash bands, James!
Cheers Tony
I can't argue with that ranking at all. 4 superb albums. The Legacy will always be number 1 for new and the others can fight for their places after that on any given day.
Legacy is such a killer debut mate. The others are all good albums in their own right. Cheers Andy
Cheers fella. Yeah, the musicianship for the Death Angel guys at those young ages was incredible. Riffs for days on that album. Thanks for watching
"Rotten.... to the core!" :D Love that song too. Ecxellent albums all of them.
Such a good song. And agreed mate, not a bad album amongst them. Cheers Kim
I recently got a testament box with the first 5 albums in it, like you say a great debut album and the one after it the new order, i will have to check out their later albums, and overkill still making quality albums to this day.
That's a great little box set for the money. Agreed, Testament and Overkill are still well and truly on top of their game. Thanks for watching
Awesome thrash Metal video just got done listening to Black Sabbath Black Sabbath cd
Cheers Brandon and excellent listening choice
Good review. I'd put Bonded By Blood first followed by Testament, Death Angel and Overkill.
Cheers for watching fella. All superb albums. So many great songs on Bonded By Blood, a classic album.
As the original Guitarist from Nuclear Assault we Played with Overkill before both our albums were released them 85 Nuclear Assault 86
Cheers for watching fella 👍
These are all 1st Tier for me, but I know what you mean. The Legacy is easily the best thrash debut period!! Good one James ☕️
The Legacy is outstanding Darcy. Not a bad song on it. Cheers mate 👍
I am a big fan of all four albums, but Bonded By Blood is my favorite thrash debut - period.
Beyond that, if I were to rank the other three, it would be like splitting hairs. Really like th em all about the same level.
My Top 2 are definitely out in front but I also love the Death Angel and Overkill albums too. Thanks for watching and commenting
Death Angel by miles for me, me ode. Then Exodus, Testament finally Overkill. Off to get a cup of tea (coffee YUK!!) and watch your vid.
Nice ranking Neil. Tea! Yuck. Having a nice coffee ☕️ right now. Cheers fella 👍

Metal Church debut is just as good as all of these
I have plenty of Metal Church albums, but I've never got round to checking out the debut. Thanks for watching and commenting
If you have never checked that album out, you’re in for a treat. I consider side one of that album on par with side 2 of Rainbow Rising.
I'll never consider Metal Church thrash, but their debut was the closet they came

The Legacy is such a great debut. The other 3 are all solid as well. Cheers Robert
Good to hear your thoughts on the albums James. I think I may have to agree with you with the ranking, although there's not much in it between Death Angel and Exodus. The Legacy is in a different league, arguably better than any of "the big 4".
4 excellent albums Grant. Was a fun video to do. Cheers mate
I would included Doomsday for the Deceiver,Seven Churches,Scream Bloody Gore,Game Over for this list
Scream Bloody Gore is death metal so definitely wouldn't be included here. Cheers for watching
Death angel because it was super impressive. The drummer was like 14 yrs old or something. Bonded by blood is always my favorite
It was unbelievable that he was playing drums as well as that at such a young age. Killer album. Cheers for watching fella 👍

I certainly do remember those old VHS tapes. Strange to think that they were considered too extreme back then. Cheers for watching fella 👍

Ya I agree The Legacy smokes all of those debut albums. Cheers
Absolutely Mark. Killer album
Cheers mate

Yeah, I like all the vocalists they've had. A lot of people shit on Rob Dukes, but vocally I've always thought he was really strong. Cheers fella 👍
@@mrboulder9714 Dukes is great imo. Exodus performance at Wacken in 2008 is awesome. Love all the albums he did with the band as well.
I agree but would probably swap bonded by blood with ultra violence
I love testament - first ever of them was their live album , return to the apocalyptic city
It's pretty close for me with Bonded by Blood and The Ultra Violence. Cheers for watching fella 👍
All bangers and not much between them all for me but I probably would switch DA and Exodus as had more time with DA over the years
It's the opposite for me as I've had mire time with Bonded By Blood. Agreed though mate. All 4 are excellent. Cheers Brendan
What tier would Wratchchild America fit into? Never understood why they never made it, other than Atlantic not pushing them.
I've honestly never heard them.
I'm familiar with the name but never got round to checking them out. Cheers for watching
