    One of Dr. Fontana's key comments was that the results that we get from mice, worm, and yeast studies do not necessarily translate to human models, because of metabolic differences. It was very telling to hear him say that after three days of fasting, mice will die, whereas people can easily survive 30 days of fasting. Therefore, we have to be cautious when drawing conclusions about the results of animal studies, and then applying those conclusions to make judgements about human life.

      i notice that he did not say fasting was bad for humans.....only that mice have faster metabolisms. there is a heck of a lot of scientific data showing that humans definitely benefit from fasting. we evolved to survive long periods of no food, where as mice evolved to be food for birds.......

      I took that information in the way that humans evolved to go without food a lot of the time. Especially meat. We didn’t survive if we didn’t get faster and smarter when we needed food. Mice obviously not. It certainly isn’t a logical argument that humans won’t benefit from fasting.

    Thank you for another informative video! Interesting to hear the opinion from front line longevity research scientist, especially for human research, not only animal.

    Thanks Richard. This is truly an excellent video. Am now reading Dr Fontana's book. It is an excellent book and highly recommended. Looking forward to parts 2 and 3.

      Hi David, thanks for the comment. I also enjoyed the book. It had a good mix of theory and practical advice. In case you have not seen it part 2 is now out. ua-cam.com/video/Jg17QawKNzo/v-deo.html

    Very informative, thank you. I always suspected that excercise and muscle exercise specifically didn’t have much to do with longevity but was always thrown in with the rest just because it was supposed to be good.

      If you listen to the next section of this, you’ll see it, he was not trying to say that it wasn’t important. He was saying that diet outweighed it, but in his section on exercise, he says it is absolutely essential as part of the symphony.

      @@oolala53 For me, what I realized is really important doing is maintaining basic muscle mass. I don’t do weights nor go to the gym, but I have rings in bedroom and throughout the day I do pull-ups and the other exercises that you can do with just your body. This coupled with a pretty much perfect diet (I really nailed it over the years) gives me a lean physique.
      For cardio instead, I find it really hard too, and honestly I don’t do it very much except for long walks when I can just because I enjoy them so much.

    Another great video! I am still fighting to get my social media, website and patreon page up here in Cabo San Lucas so i can send you the new links.(This is Robyn Littlewood, i am almost 56 here in Cabo). I finally got my NMN from science bio and it is very confusing because the NMN states the 10 mg container has 40 doses and Dr Sinclair says he is taking 1 gram! i was using Niacin before it arrived and Dr Brad had scientific studies proving it did the same thing as NMN but much cheaper. The "flush" was quite unpleasant though. Science Bio appears to have very pure product but they are terrible at explaining doses! i am struggling with knowing how much to take. if you have any advice, i can see that you are reverse aging just from watching you for a couple of months now. i know my own body is responding very well. i am also cycling a SARM called Ostarine and its definitely increasing my muscle mass but i had to you tube the dose.

      Hi Robyn,
      Thanks for you comments and reaching out. Please do send me the links when it is sorted out.
      With respect to the dosage, I had a look at Science Bio NMN supplements (the brand name is Botany correct?). The pack is 10 grams (not milligrams) so it contains 40 doses of 125mg.
      BTW, when we started we initially took 125mg and then moved up over time.

      Modern Healthy HK yes but I saw David Sinclair’s protocol was a whole gram. Also I don’t know if you watch dr Brad Stanfield but apparently there is some confusion about the bioavailability of NMN at all..... he says niacin or B3 is the same deal but way cheaper. I hate the flush of niacin but I almost think it was better than NMN

    Very interesting but 30g of protein per meal is such an old myth that came out from one old study. But someone still chooses to believe in it to support his own dogma. What about the digestion and absorption rate? You can eat 100g of protein with fats and fiber (fatty steak plus eggs plus vegetables) in one sitting and you will get protein absorption speed like 5g per hour max. Nothing is going to be wasted. There are plenty of modern studies of muscle atrophy and hypertrophy that show the importance of a high protein diet. But I'm all for fasting from time to time.

    • @oolala53
      @oolala53 Рік тому

      Is muscle atrophy and hypertrophy proven to lead to longevity? Because it seems like that’s what his focus is and they may be independent of each other.

    • @oolala53
      @oolala53 Рік тому

      But also, proteins synthesis, expert, Dr. Donald K Lehman agrees that 30 is the minimum and he doesn’t seem to think that much more than 40 at a sitting has any advantage. He says his work has been replicated many times, so it’s not just one study that says it’s 30 g minimum.What sources do you have more faith in? I am a little new to that side of the view.
