      This is an extraordinarily compelling message, delivered in an extraordinarily compelling way - mindfully, with intellectual rigor, emotionally, earnestly, soulfully, caringly, and selflessly. This is both a warning and a prescription of just how badly - and just how, specifically - we need to "get our shit in order" for the good of our own self care, our care for those we love intimately in a physical way, for family and friends that we love in emotional and spiritual ways, for the way we need to love our neighbors as ourselves, the way we need to love our communities, for the way we need to love our own nations, for the way that we need to love all nations within the family of nations within which we exist and upon whom we depend in countless ways, for the love of this earth that we depend upon for every form of physical sustenance, for the love of our Creator, no matter how someone may define their Creator. Because we are mutually inter-dependent on all of the above and we put all of those things and people that we depend on at risk, and we put our own selves and our cores -and whether or not we even have a core, or not, anymore. We risk all that and as a people we are teetering on the edge of losing all of that. If we do not renew our pledge to and live in faith, to Fidelity. Fidelity is rooted in Gratitude, Gratitude not only to any one person or institution or thing. Fidelity is rooted in a Gratitude that we have the opportunity to exist and Gratitude that we get to live our lives and Gratitude for the blessings which are showered upon us, not because we "earned" any of those blessings - our blessings have been bestowed unto us - blessings bestowed unto us by our Creator's Fidelity and Generosity to us. I give thanks for this video and to Essential Craftsman for making this video, and I give thanks for all of the other past, present, and future blessings that I've been blessed to receive.

    Decades ago my wife and I learned that fidelity to each other also includes having each other's back, not making jokes at each other's expense, speaking well of each other to others. When someone really has your back, it makes all the difference.

      Your words are true. A few years ago I met a friend and her new man, we noticed he was making jokes at her expense trying to impress us. A few weeks later he was out on his arse, he'd stolen from her family. Went through their christmas cards for cash. Now that's low, but we don't have to get that low for your words to still call out to us.

      i always cringed at the jokes men made about their wives and tried to model better behavior for younger men who were contemplating marriage and dealing with some of the ribbing of other guys. my wife and i did marriage prep for our church which we found helped others but our own marriage as well. having each other's back is critical. in this life, there aren't many people who will affirm you - your spouse doing so will make all the difference in the world.

      Not what it means.
      Think about structural integrity. Is it a morally reliable bridge? Does this building have a strong ethical history? Of course that is nonsense. Because of that quote everybody has now changed the meaning of integrity. Integrity has to do with something being integral to the fiber of a thing to its makeup and construction. Integrity can show itself in a strong ethical person like that quote is describing, but it could even have to do with negative traits... A POS will still be a POS in any given situation - that is actually still integrity. Because it is integral to their behavior. It is what that POS is made of.
      I wish more people could think about the words they use, and not just accept the common usage of which many people get incorrect.

      @rambosquirrel1208 15 днів тому +7

      @@VincentVonDudler The authority to make the determination of right and wrong you describe is ultimately just some other person's definition. Socialization in one society may suggest that some behavior is good while another society may define it as bad. Relative morality is what you should truly fear because it will change. One must have an absolute authority beyond us mere mortals for right and wrong to be defined in a truly meaningful and consistent way. Funny enough, while the solution suggested here is fidelity, it is also the problem. Our society has sold so many on the idea that you need to be true to yourself. That idea doesn't anchor any of us to the same foundation. Fidelity in God is the only way.

    • @GixxerRider1991
      @GixxerRider1991 15 днів тому +10

      @rambosquirrel1208 Morality doesn't exist on its own and never has. Humans created it by necessity in order to have civilization. The God or gods that people appeal to as a basis for their beliefs have also changed many times throughout history. Copping out of our own role in making moral decisions is an insult to our own intelligence, and religious texts leave so much open to interpretation that they also may as well just be someone's opinion.

    • @dtemp132
      @dtemp132 15 днів тому +2

      @@GixxerRider1991 Well said. For almost any two diametrically-opposed beliefs, you can find verses in the bible that suggest both. There is no correlation between religiosity and (a lack of) criminality. I believe that "fidelity" as Scott is defining it is instinctual to all humans (absent maybe some with psychopathy).

    When my wife and I made our vows of marriage, we meant it. Many years ago, my kids were in a car with their mama. They came to an intersection and there was a truck nearby that looked exactly like mine. There was a fellow driving and had an attractive woman sitting up close. My oldest girl says, "Hey, is that dad with another woman?" My eight year old son said, " there's no way that's Dad. He's always smooching and hugging Mom and telling he how much he loves her." Fidelity and integrity are taught to our children by our examples. In my 81 years I've learned some wisdom on fidelity to your spouse. Fathers, advise your son's in their youth. Don‘t worry Sir, your thoughts are always welcome and inspiring! I am a few years your elder (I’m German,76) but listening to this episode I immediately remembered a song from 1965 or 1966 when I was in my senior year of High School in Ft. Lauderdale, FLA on a scholarship that I have probably not heard for a good 50 years. It took me only a few minutes to remember the title and I found it on YT. And I got misty eyes and a feeling that this song was more prophetic than I realized at 17 years old. It‘s „Day for Decision“ by Johnny Sea.

    Mental illness is such a prevalent problem in America because we, as a country and as a people, do a terrible job looking after our most vulnerable. If someone gets sick they might lose their job and if they lose their job they lose their access to quality healthcare and then their problems compound. Many people never recover from that situation through no fault of their own. Even if it was their own fault, isn't that exactly the situation that calls for second chances? Life is precious and we've become all too comfortable with sitting by and doing nothing while our neighbors suffer.

      Jason, it is a commitment to each other. I got married out of country. It was a promise to my fiancee that I would be true to her and we would be a team. The U.S. doesn't recognize it as official. That hasn't stopped us from being a team for 32 years and building a nice life together as a committed team. I think the current world has talked us out of being tied to another and ro be honest with everyone. That is what Scott is speaking of in this video. I think you may have been talked out of commitment and fidelity, too. Bottom line for me is: As I look back at my life, every time my wife and I ask/ plan for something good, we have received it in ways we could not have imagined. You may call it planning, but at this point in my life, I understand that they have all been prayers. Answered prayers. Some slow , some fast. But when it has been for the many and for good, always answered. Keep looking, and try something new every now and then.

He puts it “if he can’t be loyal to his wife, and she does a whole lot of stuff for him that I’m never going to do… then he can’t be loyal to me and I don’t want to work with him.”
    He left the teams and we uprooted our lives and moved half way across the country to live on the same street as his best friend & his very tight family. No regrets! No sleep lost over not being liked by everybody.

    What a great talk. I really appreciate you saying that these values and ideals are not limited only to those that believe the same as we do spiritually. I think we need to understand that there can be good people of all faiths (and no faith) That holding people to their word should be universal, not limited to those we agree with. We should hold ourselves, our family, our neighbours and our politicians to a higher level than we do now. Trust is important. A person’s word is important. The world needs more of that.

    Fidelity among the untrustworthy = vulnerable. If an environment is perceived as hostile, it can incentivize infidelity as a defense/survival mechanism. I'm not saying that infidelity is the correct self-defense method, just that it does get used that way. I would hope that the more trustworthy the environment, the less likely any one individual is to be unfaithful. Although, there are the few (con artists) that will take advantage of a trustworthy environment.
    In game theory, this dynamic can be seen as a version of the Prisoner's Dilemma, where individuals must choose between cooperation (fidelity) and defection (infidelity) based on their perceptions of the trustworthiness of others. A hostile environment can push individuals toward defection, while a more trustworthy environment can encourage cooperation. However, the presence of con artists adds another layer of complexity, as they exploit the cooperative tendencies of others for their own gain.

    8:00 it’s interesting you bring up Kennedy. He is an example of a great leader. An inspiring leader. And an example of serial infidelity. Can someone like that ever be trusted with anything. Or can people be trusted to compartmentalize? The flipside is, can somebody who is true to their beliefs also be a real jerk? My answer is, I guess I would prefer to deal with somebody who has been untrue in some areas of their lives, but learned from it and tried hard not to do it again, and mostly succeeds. That’s all I can ask.

    One thing we miss in teaching our children about infidelity is that it damages ourselves when we commit infidelity it exposes the mind to greater temptation and addiction ultimately leading to pain, depression-scars. We tend to teach “Don’t do this because it’s a sin” or “Don’t do this because it will hurt your partner” which are all well and good but if people understand the self harm both emotionally and spiritually I think it would go a long way.

Many problems people do not take care of show toward the end of their life. The man who trained me was 55 when I met him and by that time he was aware of poor workmanship. He was trained well and passed onto me what he knew. For over 40 years I did what he taught me and it has served me well. As time went by I continued to learn.
