He was my professor back in 2010. Wasn't mature enough to appreciate what he was trying to communicate at the time.

Dr. Mohler, thank you for having Professor Deneen on your show. With all due respect, I have to say that your habit of interrupting displays the same bad manners you condemn. It's extremely frustrating for those of us who want to hear a guest finish his thought and make his point. The interruptions don't come from hostility, but from an excess of enthusiasm or perhaps caffeine. You have a very good podcast that could be even better with some patience and courtesy.

Dr Mohler, I tuned into this UA-cam channel to learn about Professor Deneen and his thoughts about conservatism and regime change. I did not tune into this channel to listen to you. Professor Deneen is a best selling author and a deep thinker. I could care less about what your opinions are. Your job is to bring out the best in the person you are interviewing not impress your opinions on your listeners. In phrase, learn how to interview.

I read Patrick Deenan’s book Why Liberalism Failed and found it interesting. Essentially, liberalism failed due to its own phenomenal success.

The corruption of the legal system undermines order and the possibilty of the peaceful resolution of greivances. Frustration is building especially with disputes over election intergrity. Flames are likely to ignite.

I completely share the criticism of liberalismus and see the dangers of destroying Western society. Why don't we remember Kant, the father of the Enlightenment, who demands that every individual adhere to the categorical imperative for reasons of reason: act in such a way that the principle of your actions could apply to everyone in the community.

This was the most encouraging and stimulating discussion I have had the pleasure to watch !! Godspeed to you both. And may God grant us revival and a return to a public faith.

What is prevelent in Europe and America today is not Liberalism as in the original definition.

Very much appreciate this interview. I taught political philosophy for several years back in the 1990s and this brought back great memories about poring over classical liberal thought and philosophy. But what strikes me about all these “Thinking in Public” interviews is that, in at least most of them, Dr. Mohler is at least as conversant, maybe more so, with the material as the thinkers he interviews. I always have the feeling that if he had the time and inclination that he could write most any of these books that he reviews 🤓🧐

I find Deneen's comments at 55:07 and following critical. We are created beings. Made in the image and likeness of God, we are not gods, and we never shall be. We are not Philip Hefner's "created co-creators." To the extent that we are creative, we are, to use the term of J.R.R. Tolkien, "sub-creators." God alone is the Creator, and we must not fall to Satan's temptation in Genesis 3 to do things to "be like God."

That's an interesting point. Truly brilliant artists, like Mozart, often spoke of divine inspiration. When you listen to something like his 40th symphony, you really get a sense that it always existed and Mozart was functioning as a sort of conduit on behalf of THE creator.

Also, the response at the end of Catholic’s not holding the line as well, and pointing to Pope Francis in particular, has thankfully been shown to be a weak critique as Pope Francis has strongly clarified some of his recent comments.
