How To Make A Guitar : Part 2/3 - EVERY SINGLE STEP EXPLAINED

- In 2021, ANYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE A GUITAR ! So here's a comprehensive guide to guitar making for anyone who's always dreamed of building a guitar from scratch, no matter if you already know your way around woodworking or not.
So, you've watched part 1 and then decided to buy the tools, the wood, and maybe part of the hardware. You’ve also printed the plans, and now you're sitting there, wondering what to do with it, with your friends and family silently disapproving of your new choice of hobby (bird watching wasn’t that much fun anyway).
Well now is time to prove them wrong, as I’m going to show you exactly what to do with it !
This is part two of a 4 parts series. To sum it up:
Part 1: everything you need to know and buy (a must-watch if you don't know anything about guitar making)
Part 2: first part of the construction guide
Part 3: second and last part of the construction guide
Part 4: how to use the tools if you’ve never touched a single woodworking tool in your life
Important notes: everything is millimeters, and when I say “mil”, I do mean “mm”, it’s just that I have the hardest time trying to say the word millimeter :)

You do that !
I've never been this excited for the next episode of anything in my life.
You'll have to be patient because I'm also making a guitar at the moment. So I have to squeeze part 3 between that and my family life and day job :p
@@tchiksguitars how long is patience? I’ve been checking everyday for the past month 😫
@@Aviator1637 well, it's out
Years ago I built my first guitar with only hand tools and is not very easy to make but is sure is rewarding.
I have that weird thing where I keep forgetting that I did it with hand tools, because I think of that guitar as "the one I did with one hand " :p, don't know if it makes sense.
@@tchiksguitars yeah one hand is way too much haha this will inspire people to build and not look at their circumstances.
Gonna tell my kids this was bob the builder
Ahahaha. Comment of 2021
@@tchiksguitars im Also buylding a guitar tho! An sg g310. Ok its defenitly not buylding but maybe reffinishing mixed with heavy moding. Keep up the good work! Love from Portugal 🇵🇹
well next step is a full build from scratch, I hope i'll give you the itch needed :)
@@tchiksguitars man, these videos are driving me crazy!
I am dreaming about making a guitar since very young age and although I have almost no experience working with wood - after watching your videos I'm pretty sure I'll make the dream come true!
Well that is the whole point :p
It’s all about that masking tape tone! 🤣🤣🤣 Another great vid. Love this series!
I hope I will trigger one or two persons :p
@@tchiksguitars A worthy goal indeed.
And noble if I may add :)
"I like my masking tape tone - you know, that little scoop in the high mids!" - soon to be a classic quote!
I sure hope so :)
@@tchiksguitars - then I queued up that spot in the video and played it for my wife. I laughed hysterically. She just looked at me like I'd lost my mind! At least one of us appreciates your humour - the other doesn't understand it! ;-)
@@Regrubmit my wife doesn't get why I find my on joke funny either :p
My god dude... you are absolutely fantastic!!! I am professional musician and teacher, at the start of my career, playing for more than 17 years, and building was such a dream of mine. Now i have to guts to actually start it, by following your tips and guide. Can’t wait for you to finish the third part, so i can see the whole picture, write myself a nice list, go shopping and start :) Keep this up, you are an amazing craftsman and luckily, a wonderful teacher! We need more people like you :D The biggest hugs, and “thank you”-s to you Sir!
Thank you so much !
well im glad your happy and your acheiving ur dream!! im just a young boy building this weird new instrument that has a cool shape and im looking at tutorials on how to build violins and guitars because its small and mostly gonna be violin based however still like a guitar- but anyways its confusing... hope you acheice your dream!
😅😊😊llo😊😊😊😊k😂🎉😂 I’ll🎉😮😮😮😮😮😮
Ooo
You are my new favorite person. The solutions you are capable of coming up with as you go are mesmerizing in their simplicity, and efficiency. I love your tutorial and I intend to one day follow it and try to make my own guitar
That's so kind thank you ! I hope I'll convince you With the two upcoming videos !
I think this is the video I've viewed the most times. Between each step of my telecaster build. Thanks for the inspiration!
there's just something so comforting about your videos
I've been watching this video every night for two weeks. It's the most satisfying guitar building video ever. The editing is so cool it makes me feel warm and cozy and a little bit sleepy. I just love the vibe of it. Btw, I'm building my first guitar thanks to this series
Haha you're crazy
I discovered this video last winter and started taking notes and slowly gathering parts and tools. Tomorrow I will be gluing the fretboard to my first neck build. I had zero woodworking experience before watching this video, but it gave me the confidence to try. My neck is not perfect but I feel confident in saying that it does not look like the first time I built a neck from scratch. Thank you for posting this video series and giving someone with zero woodworking experience, the confidence to build a guitar from scratch. Now to start watching video part 3 on repeat.
Gonna make a flying V soon, just need to get some wood
literally same man im making it in wood working at my highschool this video came out perfect timing!
man this is an emotional rollercoster ( i'm at that stage where i really really need to focus for my exams and the driving test but i really want to build my own telecaster altho i have little money(since i haven't been able to work the past 17 years of my live, no space and two left hands(two right hands actually but nobody ever cares), so during this video i constantly changed from "i can do this, i can do this" to "what am i thinking, i don't deserve to make something that beautiful. but the fact that your voice will be sounding in my head for the duration of another video, that's a good argument in favour of me building a guitar myself) so thank you for doing this!!
Started building an electric bass back in 2017. Finished the body (which was quite the task with a semi-hollow construction), the headstock and the rough neck shape... and then never continued because I guess I got scared of the actual neck shaping part. Now's the time to finish this beautiful project, no more excuses with this extraordinarily comprehensive guide!
13:16 A very helpful tip! While beyond the scope of this build, if you later want to get into doing fancy inlay work, this sawdust can be mixed in with the glue to help hide it.
This video series is amazing. I don't usually comment on stuff, but I just feel the need to thank you for putting all this information here for free. I'm super excited to try and build my own guitar (I have many ideas, some of which involve black 3.0 (worlds blackest black) and LIT (worlds glowiest pigment) Can't wait to see the rest of your tutorials!
you are a hero, showing us how to do this and using one hand while at it !
I am so happy to have found this. People like you inspire me to do things I would never have tackled. Thanks a lot.
Thank you !
The most impressive part of this build is that you do it with one hand.
You can not imagine how useful will be this series for me! I really, really appreciate your work and your skills, and I absolutely love the f**** way you are using that rubber band when working on the neck profile!! What a genius!! Merci Maítre!
you are more talented than you think. I made my own flying v out of Red Oak with all hand tools a decade ago. I still have it. plays awesome.
Can't wait for part 3! I am going to start my build based off your videos soon. I appreciate all of your hard work that goes into making these!
Thanks ! I'm currently making part 3 but it takes a lot of time :)
You manage to be both funny and extremely informative even in your non-native language! I'm from the US and can still barely speak English :) Love your channel!!
Haha thanks ! More jokes in the next episode. Maybe
Merci beaucoup , ton travail est de grande qualité . Clair , détaillé , didactique , accessible et surtout ça donne envie de s' y mettre . Le prof parfait ;)
Haha merci :)
Super relaxing, well edited, and just an all around great video. You put a lot of work into these guitars and it shows. Yours is the only tutorial I can find with a sufficient amount of explanation and advice without dragging on. I plan on trying this someday.
You do that !
I've been reading Brian May's book on his Red Special guitar and it is amazing how little he had to work with and how well he did it. It has inspired me to build my own.
I'm currently beginning my first build ever which is going to be a rickenbacker inspired bass, this tutorial helped me a lot with understanding some techniques better and planning things out for my build. Can't wait for part 3! :)
Don't forget to show it to me when it's done :) part 3 is out tomorrow
Toujours aussi passionnant avec un super sens de l'humour. T'apprends des trucs en ayant un grand sourire, ça fait plaisir. Merci beaucoup !
Excellent work! The illustrations are great and help explain the concepts. Thanks for the effort!
This is probably the best guitar making video tutorial I've ever seen. I love your craftsmanship, and you explain things in such an easy to grasp way. The editing and illustrations are also on point. keep doing what you do! I look forward to the next installment in this build guide series!
Thank you so much for noticing the effort :)
Man, that's awesome! Tks for sharing your learning process!!! Keep rocking!
Very nice progress. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks again for making these amazing videos!
They really help me and also are a perfect ASMR for coming down in the evening
Love how early i got here, always gonna click as fast as i can on a good video :)
Can't wait for the next parts!! You are so inspiring... already searching for the wood and the tools!!
Take a look at madinter if you don't have any tools to do the timber dimensioning :)
Really amazing! Every second of the guide moves me from "impossible to make a guitar" to "well, is it?". Maybe it's time to get some lumber. Thank you!
Bingo ! Haha
"my mom said I was special" Hahaha ! ça m'a tué :'D
Bah c'est vrai :)
everything in this video is awesome, the editing, the narrative, the content itself, your workflow, the actual guitar..this is super cool !!!
thank you for this !
Thnk you ! And happy building :)
I was waiting for this. Thanks!
2:00 If you only have one long clamp, something like this can work perfectly to glue the two board together, but with a much tighter gap. Not even a millimeter. If you put the clamp in the middle, the edges will be squished together. It can come handy
Thank you master, this is an outstanding documentary
I love the "hand router" and "rasp block" these are super ideas. Also, thanks for doing this 1 handed... while filming... i'm sure it was frustrating at times. But I appreciate the work.
Finally! Been waiting since part 1
Keep it up man!
You'll have to wait even longer for part 3, because it's going to be complicated to edit :p
Honestly, you are amazing and I must say. Thanks so much.
Dude, this might be a life saver, thanks!
I’ve build my own guitar thanks to you and this three part series. So cool! Thank you for these!
Thanks for the feedback ! I hope it went smoothly
Superb tutorial and very inspiring. Can't believe you're doing all of this with only one hand.
As always, thanks so much for sharing.
Steve
You're welcome :)
These videos are wonderful! Thanks so much for doing them.
I hope they help !
real question is, how does that one hand build improve tone
It adds additional mojo and a slight bump at 500 hz
Just bought the wood today, I'm so excited :)
Thank you for your trust !
This video is just pure gold. I've build several guitars, yet I have learned so many techniques here, which I thought were not possible using only hand tools. Gonna leave those power tools behind for the next build. Brillant !
Using only hand tools is a commitment. But it's so rewarding
OHHH thank you man!!!you are great!!!!
Brilliant - just solved a number of my problems!!!
This video serie is really interesting. Thanks!
That's exactly what I needed when I started to make guitars 3 years ago. Even though I watch these videos a little late, there still some things I needed to learn and it is really well explained.
Thank you. That was the spirit of the video " things I Ish I knew " :)
this is perfekt timing!! i watched your first video and ordered all the parts and tools a couple of weeks ago.
and they just arrived today. thank you so much for the great content and inspiration! im really excited to start building😁
Wow, you trust me before I'm even done With the tutorial !
@@tchiksguitars haha yeah and so far its paying off😉
I get so inspired of you and all your bulds! You have a amazing patience! + Great video!

Vidéo parfaite, comme d'hab' 🤘🏻
"i can't believe i just said that" my god thanks xD
That's the most cliché that ng I'll ever say ok this channel :p good to know I hit the bottom
18:51 and this is when you became my favorite UA-camr lmao!!😂😂❤✨ Keep up the good work! Love from Pakistan! ❤💪🏻✨
She did say that tho :)
I looked at all the parts. I like your voice and it was very relaxing to watch the process.
Awesome :)
Love the video one hand worker!!!
The production and educational value of this series is jaw-dropping
Thank you so much man! I love the truss rod channel grooving shot, just perfect
I also stole that from paul sellers :p I'm a complete fraud muahaha
@@tchiksguitars "It's not plagiarism, it's a tribute 🙄"
@@JeremyBeut fun fact. On the same clip. I wanted to write " this is not the real build, it's just a tribute". In reference to tenacious D. But I though no one would understand it.
@@tchiksguitars Hahaha you prolly understimate the amount of people that watched the movie 😂
This is amazing, thankyou
This is great, always wanted to do this myself, and thanks to you I will

Oh! I finally have a use for those dozens of therapy bands I've saved from all my surgeries!!
Nice, im builing my third electric guitar now, and always learn something new, these videos gonna help much. Thanks
Shinto rasp added to bucket list
You won't regret it. Best purchase of the decade :p
This is very good. Thank you!
I accually bought wood from a Swedish sawmill ( I live in Sweden) to start a build of my own thanks to you. Just wanted to let you know that you're a true inspiration and do a fantastic job!

Y a plus qu'à effectivement :) courage !
love this!
Very inspiring mate... I made a les paul body, of sorts, last year and I've been too afraid to attempt the neck... Now after watching you, I'm ready to give it a go.... Thanks :)
Awesome ! I'm glad I helped :)
Awesome job!
As soon as it warms up, I'm making a tele. I've always wanted to make a guitar and haven't had the confidence to do it.
Hope this gives you hope ! It's the whole purpose :)
Thanks bro, you're the best
great video just the kind of video i need !
Just wanted to say thanks for the effort that you put in the videos and all the research that came with it, your filming is beautiful, good ,subtle sense of humour, I don't comment or subscribe so often but I had to do it, both:)
I'm getting ready to build my first electric guitar and I can't wait for your next video
Thanks again
Thanks for those kind words and good luck with your build ! Feel free to dm me on instagram of you have any questions
I can't wait to make my first electric guitar. I don't play but I love hands on projects.
Watched part one a while ago and was gonna wait for two
I am just here to remind you of sharing your suggested measurements for the neck carvings with us , would be very helpful. Thank you so much and have a great day 😊

was just about to ask you for part 2! thank you so much! this is amazing! hoping to build my first-ever handmade guitar soon!
I hope this will.help !
Thank you once again, this has been great. I’m really looking forward to part 3 and when I clear some space and can physically get into my garage, I’m going to attempt my own build.
i didn't say it in the video, but indeed, being physically able to enter your workspace is mandatory !
@@tchiksguitars I physically can’t get into it. I sometimes wonder if that’s where grandma disappeared to
Reminds me of the rehearsals with my band when I was 14, we couldn't get into the garage at my drummer's house because there was some big ass boat lying on the side in the middle of the garage.
I won't be building a guitar in the immediate future, but I do so enjoy your dry wit. And the woodworking.
Haha thanks !
Excellent video series!
Thank you !
fantastic! thank you!

Trop fort.
Chapeau, mec.
I'm waiting for the wood to start building my guitar due to your videos. Great job!!
Thank you for your trust !
My favorite YT builder
Thanks. It's cool. Hard to believe 1 hand .good job.
I would recomend getting a router and the most necessary routerbits for starters. Specially for making the neckpocket but in the process of building the guitar it can come in handy for a lot of things. For example you can make a simple jig to plane things like the body if it is uneven and rough but also for radious the fretboard.
J'adore! c'est motivant et les commentaires belges sont tres raffinés j'ai adoré le "ZBIM" j'attends avec impatiente la partie 3!
