I remember seeing those before. I always thought that the flames would be pre-printed on the body and you'd only have little stickers to do. Those huge stickers are going to be a pain to get right. Good luck Glenn, I'm sure you'll do a lovely job!
Tamiya should have done complete packages like this back in the golden era. It would have saved on the headache of deciding what radio gear to start with.

1st time I seen this kit I always loved the hornet. So seeing this kit must say it looks so cool! Can see why this would end up being a collectable kit if it was a limited series. That being said I would get the standard kit so I could run it! Great job
It's certainly not my cup of tea Glenn. I had no idea who or what Supreme are, so it was of no interest to me. Funnily enough I thought the Jun Watanabe Hornet was a travesty when it first came out. All these years later....I kinda like it.

I was lucky enough to have had all the hornet variations on one long shelf,including the tamtech as well as the miniatures at one point, then like we all do I gave up on the collection and sold it all . I bought the supreme as body and wheels and the tyre writing was in yellow 🤔 . Really hope tamiya do another colour variant of the hornet again including different colour plastics. Great to see one in your collection Glenn.
Glenn you can buy the decal sheets on MCI so if you weren't bothered about the box a standard hornet and the decals would be exactly the same and much cheaper

Great video, I was a fan from when it was released I even thought price of $300 wasn’t bad considering the hornet is around $150 and this was packaged with radio gear. Truly just to collect would never run it but could never find one all sold out right away.

Tamiya’s body box art has always been 💯% awesome, inspirational… & optional. Tamiya’s guide books celebrated personalized body art as did magazines in the 1980s without judgment.
I love the Hornet Supreme Edition I’ve had a couple of them I thought they were pretty cool, maybe not worth the price tag though , but I love the Watanabe hornet the Black edition grasshopper etc. when there freshly built they look superb. Oddly I’ve still got the radio get. Very cool and I could be tempted again in the future . Ace vid
Supreme is primarily a street wear clothing company. They're big on limited editions of everything. When their new clothing line comes out for a season it sells out immediately. 90% of what is bought is immediately listed for double or triple retail price on eBay. The entire brand exists to create and foster hype among its fans (15 year old rich kids lol). The people that bought these Supreme Hornets bought them specifically to flip for a profit on eBay.
I didn't know this car until your video. I like the design but I wouldn't pay this money for a decal set, black rims and a radio I don't need. So a rere might be cool.
I have it and it's awsome, easily as collectable as the Watanabe version and more so than the black chrome one but, hardly anyone at the moment has realised that which, is exactly the same as what happened with the Watanabe and soon the black chrome. I've said it a few times in post on the legends page. This version and the Watanabe are easily the rarest most collectable ones, there's still more vintage cars for sale than either of them.
I agree. The price is always brought up but if you bought a kit, radio and servo the price is close. So to me the pricing hasn’t hit collectible pricing yet like the Wantanabe.
Something that always puzzled me is that strange rear wheels suspension the Hornet has, along with the Grasshopper and its sequel. I'd love to hear your opinion on it, how it works (or doesn't work), and why Tamiya would create such a strange type of chassi. There's no real vehicle besides scooters that has the motor mounted to the rear axle like that, and scooters have only two wheels. Come to think of it, it all started with the Grasshopper.
That's a cool Hornet and have to say never heard of this version. Good luck with the decals as they look tricky. You are right for RC runners pointless over the stock kit.
I've never seen that one. But I'm not from CA. Considering what Tamiya has done with the Clod, I think it's neat. Like you said, great for collecting. Love the flame look on black.
Buyers of supreme clothing are big collectors of anything supreme, so it makes sense they released it only for supreme fans, the idea that, its part of the supreme brand. Its a cool collab.

These are cool but will never be “mega gold” collector kits. Nostalgia is a key driving force for that and these don’t resonate to the masses that way.

I agree and I think it is more of a collector car than anything. Much like the Wantanabe "cow car" is now. When that came out I laughed and thought who in the world would want that thing but now I really want that thing!!! I do like the Supreme version but i could not justify spending that much money on one. Both of those kits are just ones that got away for me and I enjoy seeing them but would not spend the silly money people are trying to sell them for. Glenn, that's definitely NOT a runner! I wouldn't have one, but that's just me. I'm operating on a genuine shoestring... There's no way a could fathom such A purchase - bearings or not. (And WHY can't Tamiya FINALLY include Bearings in their Kits!!??) 😠😠😠 I believe ANYONE would pay an extra $5 bucks, to not have to always buy Bearings separately. I've actually been subbed to you for over 5 years, on my old Channel. Always love your ramblings, builds and amazing stuff! 👍👍
Let's try that name again Glenn... say it like what-un-are-bee and you are there. :-) The Hornet was my first RC kit when I was young and I was very disappointed. I thought it should have put Tamiya out of business it was so bad to drive and had such poor dynamics. Shows you what I knew. I then had the Fox which was a little bit better. I was then lucky enough to get a Kyosho Salute after doing paper round after paper round and I know we can't compare 4wd and 2wd but just with materials, engineering, and plastics it was leaps and bounds ahead. So much so I still have it.
Hi can you still buy main battery pack to fit original hornet rc cars as I’ve owned one since they first came out many years ago and thought it might be fun for my youngest?
Think I will buy a regular Hornet and buy the decals from MCI. I do like the flames. But the odd bit I'm not into those true flames on real cars. I'll stick to old Hot Rod style flames for that. I still have my vintage Hornet I got in early 90s, that has been resting on the shelf for years. Needs to be taken out after I got hold of some wheels and tires. And I still want to a neon one like you did a while ago. I love that one!

To be fair for me a controversial release was the 2010 holiday buggy!!!. I had to get one for my memories… I mean cutting out holes in the body for the shocks to come through!!!!
I had seen this Hornet before but to be honest I thought it was supposed to be a top of the range Hornet 😆 I had no idea it's from a store, always thought it was an all out Tamiya kit for the masses.. Definitely one for the collector but I find myself wanting one also 😁.. Great one for your collection 👌
I think ALL Tamiya RC Kits are collectable. I am a Tamiya RC geek and constantly buying the kits that interest me. This kit does peak my interest for sure.

Yeah the only two vintage rtr kits I can think of was, the Thundershot and Sonic Fighter. Both go for big money now if you can find one 😅
But then the box would of had a $5-600 price tag. RC is so much cheaper these days even without inflation

In Canada the font used for supreme is the same as the font used by Petrol Canada on their pumps for supreme fuel.

Let's try that name again Glenn... say it like what-un-are-bee and you are there. :-) The Hornet was my first RC kit when I was young and I was very disappointed. I thought it should have put Tamiya out of business it was so bad to drive and had such poor dynamics. Shows you what I knew. I then had the Fox which was a little bit better. I was then lucky enough to get a Kyosho Salute after doing paper round after paper round and I know we can't compare 4wd and 2wd but just with materials, engineering, and plastics it was leaps and bounds ahead. So much so I still have it.

Think I will buy a regular Hornet and buy the decals from MCI. I do like the flames.
But the odd bit I'm not into those true flames on real cars. I'll stick to old Hot Rod style flames for that.
I still have my vintage Hornet I got in early 90s, that has been resting on the shelf for years.
Needs to be taken out after I got hold of some wheels and tires.
And I still want to a neon one like you did a while ago. I love that one!

In my opinion, the graphics make it much more interesting than the standard Hornet. The box art is classic Tamiya perfection!

I really like it! Looks great. It's definitely one for the collectors, I can see it appreciating in value. If I owned it I would keep it nib but I totally understand why you are building it and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Good luck with those decals!

it's prounced june wa-tan-na-bee and yes the standard hornet kit has a sticker on the box for the ESC good luck with those decals !!

I think ALL Tamiya RC Kits are collectable. I am a Tamiya RC geek and constantly buying the kits that interest me. This kit does peak my interest for sure.
