Quick forks adjusting tip: It's very hard to adjust the side to side movement of the forks in the level position due to the friction on the bottom rail from the weight of the forks hanging straight outwards. The trick is to raise the boom far enough that you can tilt the forks forward just enough to where you can see them swing loose from the bottom rail. Now all you have is the top of the forks contacting the top rail. There's no friction on the bottom whatsoever. Just open your notch latch and you will be able to effortlessly slide them side to side, sometimes with only two fingers.
It's always amazing that after an equipment purchase, you quickly get the feeling of how did I ever live with out this? Good work with working through the problem of turning the Axis with the FEL. I agree with you on doing a regen on a diesel motor. They tend to scream like a banshee while the regen process is going. I will say that is a much better option than having your tractor engine derate because you haven't done a regen to clean out the diesel particulate filter.
If I remember back when you were contemplating this purchase that you would never regret it. You would wonder how you ever lived without it! Glad things are going well! Love watching you be successful! Keep up the great work! JB

I've never used one before and if I used one tomorrow I still wouldn't be as good as you, but at least I learned a little bit on how to change attachments. I've seen other UA-cam videos and their camera angles weren't close up to see how they were able to pick-up the attachment. Watching you I think I was able to see the tricks to make it easier. 👍on this video.

I drive a Hilo in a lumberyard and watching you reminds me of myself, with time it becomes natural, you become in tune with the machine and find its limits and how it reacts. Never loose fear and keep respect for the dangers but also enjoy it. It’s definitely fun moving 6,000lbs or more on a hi lo rated for around 9,000 lbs and then moving long LVLs or I joists, 48’ long stuff makes for some fun. Lol. Have a great day and stay safe.
Joe, as usual a nice video. I'll give you a suggestion for hooking implements onto the loader arms, once you have the implement in the upper V, lift the arms very slightly, then curl the pair up, as if you are curling the bucket up. That will help it engage almost all of the time. I know, I've been doing it for over 15 years.
great video. i think your angle of the attachment plate on bobcat needs to be closer to the angle of the bucket. if that makes sense. i know its difficult to see when you are trying to hook up...i had trouble too.
Great vid. Enjoyed watching you fully utilize your machine. I bought a Bobcat CT230 in 2010 and it has served me well. Just upgraded to the CT4055…. Just waiting on the delivery. Not sure of your work flow, but why don’t you keep the forks on with a pallet and then just stack your split wood on the pallet as you split it? If you’re stacking wood on pallets after you split, that would save some time and your back. Thanks, Phil
You gotta getcha Grapple Joe. I have been trying to convince my Financial advisor that I need one too. So far no luck, I find the pallet forks are very handy but a grapple you have the ability to gently lay down the logs.

Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I was away in Donegal and now just catching up on my viewing. I see a number of operators store their tractor implements on pallets to keep them and the ground better protected. Its a no cost preventative measure that may also assist the coupling process if your vision is improved.
Hey Joe. I do a lot of firewood, but I also do property maintenance and dirt work. This means that the tractor is my ultimate tool. I can drive to jobsites at 15mph over the road, dig, log, lift, and a million more things involving PTO (im in dairy country VT) etc. Firewood relies on the splitter, but my life relies on the tractor ahhaha. Thanks Joe good vids, you gave me the courage to increase my prices while still being competitive.
When you get the hands into pockets of the bucket, move slightly forward and only curl backwards to set it, do not lift until full retraction is reached. I'll do a small lift and an immediate drop to make sure everything is set AFTER it's curled inward all the way before I get near the bucket to set the locks. Good on you for learning anyways. You may make fun of yourself but I think you are doing a fine job with it. When I first turned the seat on a backhoe I slammed the bucket into my truck that I bought a week earlier. All things compared, you're doing better than I did when I first started.

Need a patio umbrella to move around on your equipment this summer. Anything to keep the sun off, sun screen can't do it all. Tractor skills are coming along great just a lighter touch on the bucket and it become much easier.
I know we all watched you in previous videos (before tractor) - but now it’s impossible to imagine you moving those logs and doing all that work without the tractor! Right?! :)

I think it may help you connect SSQA if you boom down lower and get your quick attach plate about 20 degrees more vertical as you approach. Try not to boom up before curling.
Dont know if anyone has mentioned it or if you already has considered it, but if you put a nosewheel to get the feet off the ground, you could just push it around? Might be a hevy push though...
Looks like you got the implement swap out down pat. Try just picking it up a few inches off the ground, and then tipping it all the way back, should slide right in every time. u Da Man..
@@ohiowoodburner Diesel engines do mot like running without some sort of load on them. So when it comes to regenerate the next time, find something to do for it. Plus you are not just wasting fuel either. As i said, I either hook up the brush hog then of the box blade and run up and down my rather long gravel drive way a couple of times.

Get a grapple ASAP. I purchased one last year and it’s amazing x3! Find a light weight one for more lifting capacity. The wicked grapple looks awesome but was out of my budget range.

I definitely hear you about the financial commitment. Right now, I'm trying to decide whether to invest into a stump grinder (20,000 Euros plus taxes). In the long run, it'll pay itself. But in the short term, I could buy a car for that money.

You maybe could have saved a lot of money by putting a loader on it instead of getting a different one. @@ohiowoodburner you are right. I thought it might have been a 3000 model. My dad had a 2000 just like it on the farm when I was a little kid that he bought brand new. Being only 2 wheel drive you would have had to put 1500 pounds of ballast on it to probably be able to do what the Bobcat is able to do. I would enjoy it if you would do a video of it sometime. Prob not. These are fine. I had an old Ford 2000 tractor when I bought this that had ag tires on it. Sold it after the Bobcat proved to be fine at doing everything I needed it to.

I would totally get the 40 hp again. I would possibly consider the smaller one to avoid emissions but I hear they are noticeably less in power. I love this tractor. perfect for me

I had looked at excavators...with thumbs...and they were just WAY too pricey. The ones in my price range were very beat up. But I agree they would be an ideal machine
@@ohiowoodburner the rated capacity is usually 80% of the actual lifting capacity to help maintain the life of the vehicle, if you tried to lift it and then it didnt work then i would say i believe that, but i am doubtful. One thing I have noticed and I do not have a solution for is this: When you use the Axis for a long time, all of your body weight is on your LEFT leg. The right is using the trip lever
I agree with you but I don't seem to feel anything on my back, body etc. I prob only run it for no more than 45m at a time and the other moving around seems to keep you from stressing a particular muscle etc.
Hi James McKay - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I operate a foot operated vertical splitter. In the past I have split for 6 hours using my right foot on the pedal and there are no issues - and I have lower back problems. As an aside, I broke my right knee in my first motorcycle accident 50 years ago and on one occasion I operated the splitter pedal with my left foot for the day with my weight on the right leg - I could hardly walk the next day so I learnt quickly to only operate the lever with my right foot!

If you are selling out of your firewood every year then you need to raise your prices 25%. Keep doing it that way until you are no longer running out!

Hi Keith. The forks were inserted as far as they go. The fork pockets are not see-thru and I had them bottomed out on the back side of them. Joe
How about a tongue jack with a wheel on it? You can get those for 25 bucks and then it should be pretty easy to push around.

If you tilt your forks when you move them they will slide easier. I put a tarp under my log splitter makes clean up a little easier.

But can your car grind stumps (ie. make you money?)
if you set your forks and bucket on pallets or up a bit off the ground, it would be easier to get them on and off easier.
I have done that before with the bucket. I think it did help but... LOL

That is a VGC Ford 2000. I had looked at a loader for it but honestly they look pretty Mickey Mouse. I don't think it would have worked effectively
@@ohiowoodburner you are right. I thought it might have been a 3000 model. My dad had a 2000 just like it on the farm when I was a little kid that he bought brand new. Being only 2 wheel drive you would have had to put 1500 pounds of ballast on it to probably be able to do what the Bobcat is able to do.
I would enjoy it if you would do a video of it sometime. It brings back a lot of great memories. 😀😀

Prob not. These are fine. I had an old Ford 2000 tractor when I bought this that had ag tires on it. Sold it after the Bobcat proved to be fine at doing everything I needed it to.

I would totally get the 40 hp again. I would possibly consider the smaller one to avoid emissions but I hear they are noticeably less in power. I love this tractor. perfect for me

Tractors are an important asset. They can do many function, but not all. An excavator should be high on a list.
I had looked at excavators...with thumbs...and they were just WAY too pricey. The ones in my price range were very beat up. But I agree they would be an ideal machine

The weight of the axis is 1700 pounds, that tractor is rated for 1630 but im sure could lift 1800 all day.
There is no way the tractor could pick this up. Too heavy!
@@ohiowoodburner the rated capacity is usually 80% of the actual lifting capacity to help maintain the life of the vehicle, if you tried to lift it and then it didnt work then i would say i believe that, but i am doubtful. Anyways dont want to beat a dead horse, still love the videos and your teachings. Respectfully Tom
One thing I have noticed and I do not have a solution for is this: When you use the Axis for a long time, all of your body weight is on your LEFT leg. The right is using the trip lever
I agree with you but I don't seem to feel anything on my back, body etc. I prob only run it for no more than 45m at a time and the other moving around seems to keep you from stressing a particular muscle etc.
Hi James McKay - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I operate a foot operated vertical splitter. In the past I have split for 6 hours using my right foot on the pedal and there are no issues - and I have lower back problems. As an aside, I broke my right knee in my first motorcycle accident 50 years ago and on one occasion I operated the splitter pedal with my left foot for the day with my weight on the right leg - I could hardly walk the next day so I learnt quickly to only operate the lever with my right foot!

Hi Rich. They were just too expensive for me and I wanted something more versatile to mow, plow etc.
That stuff u called a 'mess' makes good kindling if it's dry...ya may consider selling that too, or it may be mulched or turned into plywood...hate to think ur just dumping it and burning it up.
