One of the most important songs of my life. I 1st heard this massive tune before a gospel gig in my youth. The sound tec guy used this tune to mesure the room and the subwoofers and boxes😎🥁✌️❤️. I was and still am blown away by that live/ studio sound back in the year 2000. It's perfect ❤️✌️🥁😎
one of the best songs from steely dan. a perfect live performance. i love fagens bright voice. this song is so groovy - everybody must dance. the dan´´s do the same job since the seventhies.
First album I ever heard in Quadrophonic Stereo (yes, I'm THAT old) was Steely Dan's "Can't Buy a Thrill." Then when I was in college I worked as a waiter in a restaurant where the owner played their "Aja" and "Gaucho" albums on a continuous loop over the sound system. I could listen to this stuff all night!!
Here Here! Seen them three times.. I'm a drummer and I have always been a fan of Steve Gadd from Aja album.. Truly the best musicians play with them...
"I don't listen to the lyrics, just the music." My Mom, who introduced me to Steely Dan as a kid, answering my question about the seedy lyrics of this amazing band's songs.
They're slick but not in a compassionless way. Everyone is soulfully precise. Pros at the top of their game breezing along on a funky song that has room for everyone to express themselves.
Been crazy about them since I first heard the intro to Reelin In The Years on WPGC AM radio in my mother’s car in PG County. She’d play the car stereo for us kids. Never commented on the music other than to say they’re not from my time. Meaning that the 70s music wasn’t her bag. Elvis and Bill Halley and the Comets were her era. Like Pete Townshend said “you’ll always love the music you came of age on. My mother no different than anyone else. Interesting. Thing is I worked security at Lynyrd Skynryd Saturday night. Our music might have become the most cross generational music ever. In fact Van Zant said there were 4 generations in the house. Says a lot about “our” music!

I feel so fortunate to have seen most of this lineup, including Walter Becker, when Steely Dan performed at Pechanga Casino in Temecula several years back. Had seats in the 4th row. They delivered and then some. What a concert!
There’s no expiration date for ANY Steely Dan songs
Totally agree! They are timeless.
ABSOLUTELY!!
AMEN TO THAT!!!!
Listening to them since 1972. Used to drive 140 miles to the cape just rocking my ass off.
Still rock...and I'm 72.

Amazing band, brass section is tight and guitar is outstanding. Always one of my favorite bands.
Today's music with all the advances in technology will never sound as good as these guys

Jam of all jams
How they managed to,get all that space between the instruments is beyond me. It never, ever sounds constrained.
Perhaps a combination of great engineering, and great players who know how to not step on each other... less is more, etc.
I’m only 22 years old and I love Donald’s music!!🔥🔥 I just hope to catch him in Miami in a few months
Love the tune, love Walter Becker, the background singers are excellent and the rest of the band is so tight and tasty.

So tight
I love the story of how Steely Dan was formed.
Teddy's rolling now most every night
Skatin' backwards at the speed of light
He's changed - in a thousand little ways
He's changed - yes indeed
You know he's movin' on metal, yes he's
Hanging tight with the Jack of Speed
Sheena's party - there's a case in point
That right-wing hooey sure stunk up the joint
He's gone - he walks through the old routines
But he's gone - guaranteed
He may be sittin' in the kitchen, but he's
Steppin' out with the Jack of Speed
You maybe got lucky for a few good years
But there's no way back from there to here
He's a one way rider
On the shriek express
And his new best friend is at the throttle more or less
He can't hear you honey - that's alright
Pack some things and head up into the light
Don't stop - he'll be callin' out your name
But don't stop when you hear him plead
You better move now little darlin' or you'll be
Trading fours with the Jack of Speed
Lovely groove all through the song...great for drummers to listen to !
That bass player always rocks it with a grin!!!!!!
If you went to sleep and woke up the next morning, this song would be in your head.
