    I know it has been awhile but I was thinking of getting one of these but heard of some serious intonation troubles from E down, what was your opinion? Also can you tell me if you bought the
    bottom caps separately, can't seem to find the flugel with those?

      Mine is very in tune in all registers that I can play in. The bottom caps came like this on both of the horn I have/had. --> www.thomannmusic.com/thomann_fh_900j_raw_jazz_bb_flugelhorn.htm

    Yes, an interesting bugle. Good sound, harmonious intonation. But! - tight springs, poor coating, after six months it began to wear off

    • @GarotMichaelConklin
      @GarotMichaelConklin  11 місяців тому +1

      ah I see that is a great callout... I have the unfinished model as well, in raw brass and that one hasn't changed much. I actually like the tight or "hard" springs but that can always be swapped out, actually I wonder if I did that already and have simply forgotten that I did lol

    Hello, I think I fell in love with that sound..! How does the horn sound in the upper register? (not too high, but notes hovering around high C..just above the staff) Although flugelhorns are not for high notes, I was just curious...

    • @GarotMichaelConklin
      @GarotMichaelConklin  2 роки тому +3

      All I can say here is that this horn plays up there in the high register just as well as any other horn I have but... I am not a high note player at all so a D above high C is about all I ever, and that is VERY rare, play in that range... I am pretty much all below A/B and even then it's pretty much a quick run past those higher notes... I almost always switch to trumpet if I really need something way up there... but again I am not a high note player at all :) thanks !

      @@GarotMichaelConklin Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment..! Your explanation is helpful enough. I have been considering buying a horn with a mellower tone these days, but I have a tight budget.. and I came across this video!! I think I should try that model when it is back in stock. Hope you are doing well in these tough days.. Thanks so much again! -from a fellow (amateur) musician in Korea-

    Hello, thank you very much for teaching us... I have been playing the trumpet every day for three years...
    I like to improvise jazz
    And now I'd like to try the flugelhorn: have you tried the fh-1000 or do you think it's more worthwhile than the fh-900?
    I'll try the Soundfresh mouthpiece🙏🏼👌
    Thank you very much again, it's a pleasure to listen to your musical interpretations and explanations.

    Hello, I also have a Thomann flugelhorn, I want to buy a KGU trim kit but I have doubts if the input of the Yamaha flugelhorns fit, the other question is about the spring, it is stuck to the base, no other model that I know of is So, I think the bottom cap would be impossible to assemble, what do you think? I would like to know what you recommend 🙏🏼

    • @GarotMichaelConklin
      @GarotMichaelConklin  Рік тому +1

      if the spring appears attached to the bottom cap, that is just "stuck" at the moment, they are NOT attached permanently, you can just gently turn the spring and it will release from the bottom cap, I have actually tried some different springs on mine just to see if there is any difference in "feel" as I really like the stock springs but not sure what they are in terms of gauge. As for the trim kit, I would bet that there isn't one by default, but I would reach out to @KGUmusic directly as they are excellent with customer service and have actually made custom caps and bottoms for me for an older Conn 16B horn I have, so send them an email and they can help you for sure :)

    Do you find the Thomann 's intonation going off? Any ideas on how to rectify?

    • @GarotMichaelConklin
      @GarotMichaelConklin  2 роки тому +1

      That is the one thing that I have not had any issues with at all.. the intonation on the 2 horns that I have (had, I did sell one) were spot on. There may be a mismatch with the mouthpiece that you are using but again I have over 100 mouthpieces and while I'm certain I have not used them all in that horn, none of them had any intonation issues for me.

      Non ho riscontrato alcuna differenza tra le trombe in base al tipo di finitura che hanno. Detto questo, possiedo un numero maggiore di trombe in ottone grezzo o non finito. Nell'impostazione di registrazione in cui suono più spesso, non ho notato differenze marcate nel tono o nel volume. Forse questo è qualcosa che è più evidente in un concerto dal vivo, dove l'acustica della stanza gioca un ruolo molto significativo nel suono del corno nell'auditorium.

    • @GarotMichaelConklin
      @GarotMichaelConklin  2 роки тому

      Oooo I've never played an Adams but have considered them several times... That is a wonderful horn for sure. To be fair, this Thomann is really a great sounding horn, and that is not just my own opinion, many people in the custom builder world have agreed that "somehow" Thomann made an outstanding sounding horn here at a ridiculous price point, that said they are pretty lacking in "fit and finish" so that part is a little disappointing overall, but doesn't impact their tone or playability.
