Thanks Jane, very useful. Don’t like broad beans myself, but dad had spare packet and I have a patch to fill, so growing for others to enjoy, whilst hopefully keeping weeds away! Like you say, I was worried I’d be too late, but definitely sowing this week now 👍🤞
Hi, Jane! Love this video... great tutorial! And even better knowing I can sow I’m the spring! I have a lot of broad bean seed- hopefully none of them swim! And to interplant with lettuce? Who knew! Thanks for sharing, Jane! Itching to get planting! Still a mud pit here... and still could get snow! Take care!! Xx
We're actually having a few Spring like days here at the moment - it won't last but oh my goodness I hope we don't have more snow! Get out there and get planning young Jim! Thank you x
Nice one Jane. I don't sow direct very often but when I do I leave the beans soaking overnight. I find it gives them a flying start and less time to lie there waiting for rodents LOL
Yep - done that before but then I tend to forget and return several days later to a very sorry sight indeed! One of my plot neighbours soaks his peas in paraffin first - not sure I'd go that far! Thanks Steve.
@@lisaskilton3746 Chilli powder, coffee grounds, peppermint oil, cinnamon, vinegar, citronella - basically anything with a strong smell. Cover them with a fine mesh until they are 100mm tall. Dig the edges of the mesh into a slit in the soil (like a polytunnel skin) Sow the beans at 75 - 100mm deep - too far down for mice but will not stop the beans from germinating. Plus more.
Get them in the ground but do check the overnight temperatures first. Also might be worth throwing some net over them as the pigeons will have a field day otherwise! Thanks Emma.
Great advice Jane, and that little robin was adorable, lovely to be finally outside in the sunshine ☀ 😊🌱 xx
Wasn't he gorgeous? He stuck around most of the afternoon so I was so glad that he'd appeared on camera! Thanks Roo x
That all makes perfect sense Jane. Loved the Robin interlude. All the best. Mags
Oh I was thrilled when I saw he'd turned up on the film Mags - they always make me smile! Thank you.
I absolutely love Broad Beans! I cant get enough of them 😊 I'm going to be sowing more this week, thanks for the tips Jane ❤
I only started to enjoy them once I'd grown my own - I grew up with unpodded, over boiled excuses for beans - not quite the same! Thanks Gemma.
Very educational and a great reminder too! ❤🎉😊
Thanks Anne - hope it was useful!

Ooh yes do sow some and give yourself a little challenge - try and find a way to enjoy them! Broad bean pesto is delicious! Thanks Dazzy.
Surprise lettuce! Love it! I think I'll sow some of that 😊
May as well fill in the gaps! Thanks Tamsin.
Sink or swim trick….love it! Perfect timing as I have some aging seed I wanted to use up!
Fab! Use the water trick - it's always worked for me! Thanks Robin.
Hi Jane, great video with lots of useful info. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Aw glad you found it useful Christine - thank you!
Nice One Jayne thanks.
Thanks John - glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this video, I was beginning to worry because many vlogs have grown plants when I've just sowed the seeds.
I'm only just sowing mine now - they all catch up in the end! Thank you.
Thanks Jane i need to sow some dwarf broad beans❤
Now's the time! Thanks Penny.

Good video
Thank you!
Brilliant vlog Jane, I used a small flat stone to sow some seeds it's what you've got at the time 😂
Absolutely - sometimes the simpler things work best! Thanks Sharon.
Hope you get a great crop Jane! Welldone for the label! That's progression 😂😂❤❤
I'm getting there with the labels - just need to remember what month it is now! Thanks Danny x
@JanesGrowingGarden The month is Tuesday Jane
Thanks Jane, never thought of planting in between. I had planted my beans, but they got robbed by some type of rodent, had to replant last week.
Oh the mice love them don't they - fingers crossed they've got full tummies now and won't affect the next lot! Thanks Lorraine.
@@JanesGrowingGarden I hope so 😋🤣🤣

@@JanesGrowingGarden Yeah, paraffin to stop mice etc - there are "greener" ways now LOL
@@DigwellGreenfingersso what are the safer ways instead of paraffin to stop mice please Steve?

@@DigwellGreenfingers thanks Steve! It’s mainly for inside my poly tunnel! Wish I knew where they squeeze in!
I have my broad beans in the greenhouse as I lost a crop from the autumn sowings. Just no idea what to do with them 😂

i don’t grow broad beans cos we don’t like them unfortunately but thanks for sharing x
Oh now Lisa you've not had them podded and fried with bacon, or squished with garlic into a fantastic pesto - give them another go!
I just got my broad beans out for planting tomorrow 😊
By the way how is the posh shed progressing?
Slow but steady - time is very short at the moment but we're hoping to show a bit more progress in a week or two!
