Obviously Mellencamp's biggest talent is his songwriting. So underappreciated and overlooked. Did he write mind blowing albums full? Ehh.. not really. Should he be held in the same esteem as Springsteen, Petty, and others? Absolutely. His catalog is surprisingly diverse. Mostly traditional Americana type music, but so well written and executed. His lyrics are inspiring and nostalgic with the ability to hit home. The guitar playing is mostly to supplement and support but its perfect for it's purpose. Fun to play, not extremely difficult and instantly recognizable. Had trouble learning some of stuff by ear until I realized how often he incorporates the capo and alternate tunings. The man knew what he was doing and what he wanted. Carl choosing to showcase his songs is a testament to how timeless they are. I won't say I jump at every song picked but I definitely appreciate Carls wide taste and knowledge. The gift he gives with this channel shouldn't be ignored. He's providing not only some great technical lessons but he's also exposing people to some stuff they might not normally learn but can ALL benefit from. Thank you Carl.
One of my favorite riffs and songs to Jam I've always loved this song man " Carl your Playing it just abit different from me bc we're still playing the same notes , that's what's good about guitar you can play the same notes sometimes on different frets yet still get the same chords " Jam on Brother ..... Rock on to the Melloncamp !!!
just want to say thank you so much for making playing guitar easier, simpler and "free" !! - I thoroughly enjoy receiving all your songs....again, THANK YOU
very nice ! been listening this classic song for so many years and i never thought was that easy ! thanks for your patience . i just subscribed to your channel , i been seeing some videos from you , i think you one one the best here and professional.
There's another guy that did one of those too for play guitar online if Carl doesn't get to it you can always check it out it's JohnDrakeonsix Just put in play guitar guitar lesson he does a real good job too I've used him to learn songs too just like what Carl just thought I'd let you know.
Danke Carl für dieses Lied👍hatte schon gar nicht mehr gewusst das es das gibt 😉. Du bist einfach der Beste! Liebe grüße aus Deutschland von deinem Fan Udo 👋
Loving these mellencamp lessons Maybe sometime do a deep cut if you could nobody seems to get minutes to memories right that is such a great song from scarecrow lots of cool stuff with that D chord good way to learn a bunch of hammer on picking and stuff Keep up the great work Carl
I do my best to like and watch comment on you lesson you rock man I'm big on your mettalica stuff I watch that all the time so many every song I want to learn you have done do thank you vary much carl
Only thing about these lessons are these no amp or effects examination. All of the songs you teach are spot on with the sound and I’d love just a quick rundown of how you got the tone that’s being used. Best lessons on UA-cam!!!!!!
Carl, any suggestions on how i can practice alongside your riffs? I slow down your YT videos, but all I get is drunk sounding slowmo Carl and it's never to a consistent intro point. Thank you so much for the amazing content over the years!
Great lesson, now I know that fast little part at the end! You did a lesson by fire house he two weeks ago and asked if we would like in the others, well, how about don’t treat me bad? Would love to have a lesson on little fighter by White lion as well as keep your hands to yourself by Georgia and the satellites, there are a few leads that I definitely am playing wrong. Thanks for the hard work look forward to the next lesson
Carl can you do a Lita Ford song...Dressed to Kill or One Shot of Poison perhaps. I don't think you've done a Lita Ford song yet. Thanks for the great lessons :)
Hey thanks, I think the song has more than one punch in on the guitar, so obviously one guy and one guitar isn't playing everything we hear. But I picked up some good blues feel on it now.
In my previous comment I forget to ask you to teach F@$king Hostile by Pantera. I’ve never been able to figure out that brutal rhythm and the solo would be fantastic to learn.
Anybody else ever notice how Jack and Diaine and Crazy train are the same song. Play them both without any amp and you will notice how close they are...pretty cool.
How about some Cher? I found someone has a tasty solo and I just can't quite get it....Since you've been gone is a good one too. Thanks for the consideration. Cheers.
Im trying to figure out how to post a UA-cam guitar cover without getting copyrighted. Does anyone know if people that do lessons and covers like Carl get copyright claims?
Yes almost all of my videos have copyright claims… it isn’t a big deal, just means the artist claims some or all of the ad revenue but doesn’t negatively affect your account, just the $ you make from the video… copyright strikes are a different story and those badly damage your account… those a very rare and only come from artists that don’t want anyone using their music on YT, like the Eagles

Love your videos. Could you please do a lesson on “dirty little mind” by Jakyl
Anybody else ever notice how Jack and Diaine and Crazy train are the same song. Play them both without any amp and you will notice how close they are...pretty cool.
That riff sounds a little bit like "Hard Times Come Easy" from Richie Sambora.
