- Reviewing the Leatherman Free T4 a lightweight compact pocket tools. this is a really nice pocket sized multitool with locking blade and tools. I really like the concept and thing Leatherman is onto something here that could eventually give the Victorinox Tinker tool a run for its money.
the Pros are this tool is light weight with a great blade and all of the tools lock.
Cons: the tools is a little spendy, and has a few small missed design opportunities Overall good tool I hope Leatherman keeps working on it!
A great step in the right direction, with a little more work I think Leatherman could turn this into a great tool, it's just not quite there yet.

I got one on the way. And about the file, for me this is perfect. In my hobby/crafting, this file is more then enough. It is all comes down for what you need it. The right tools, for the specific job!
You're lucky to have found a use for the file. Nobody else has, I'm surprised you find the handle comfortable.
@@edwardfletcher7790 I have small hands. It fits my hand very good.
@@2371Anita I wonder how much better the Victorinox file would suit your hobby. Its much longer, thinner and also has a file edge, but isn't as coarse.
Here's Felix using it:

@@edwardfletcher7790 got several Saks. I rotate them all. I can't choose! 😁
@@2371Anita Same here, I love my Swiss Champ and Hercules the best 👍
I finally bought a half price Leatherman Surge on Cyber Monday. That would definitely be too big for your hands !
For me the file is just perfect. For what I use it for, it couldn't be better. It all just depends on what you need it for. The right tool, for the right job! 👌
This is a nice tool, one of LM’s very best executions and it’s walk and talk is equal to anything from Vic, BUT its not nearly as svelte as a Swiss product. The scissors on the T4 are world-class IMO. That said, the T4 is a favorite MT of mine: LM or Victorinox notwithstanding.
I have to agree they did a good job with this one and when I'm looking for something that doesn't have pliers, I find myself reaching for this one.
Thanks for watching!
the screwdrivers are great btw! the action is gritty as a gravel road tho. i needed to jam rouge compound and work in the get good 'trigger action'
Pocket Check for today! I carried the Kershaw Blur for my EDC Blade, what did you carry today?
@GearsNTools Nothing lol I was in school
I only use Scissors like this for thread, during repair sewing or cutting loose treads off clothes. And I only use the awl as a threading awl for repair as well, don't really like the blunt screwdriver tip on the awl, it's alright. I guess the awl would be okay to ream soft wood.
I've been on the fence of this for a while. I always just carry a knife, multi tools tend to be a touch excessive for me. I will say my swiss army knife is CRAZY nifty though. Have been thinking about getting this as a do it all kind of thing. Would go with the smaller one but yeah, how does it not come with a pocket clip??? c'mon Leatherman..... great review!!
I would get a SAK over this any day. They come in so many different configurations there's certainly one that will fit your needs like a glove
Leatherman is better suited for plier based multi tools
glad you found it helpful! and yes they should all come with pocket clips! especially when the tool is predrilled for it!
When it comes down to it, there's not too many of the Leatherman products that I really don't like. But with the being said, there are some that are better than others. 😏
imo the knife undustry needs to dump the 'bottle opener' which is a useless tool in 21centuary. replace with can opener an all multi's
The scissors on the one I got failed after about 10 cuts into PAPER. Paper caused the scissors to bind up and not spring back. Maybe the tool I got was defective. I returned them.
Yeah that doesn’t sound right! Defective or maybe a fake?
Wingman and Vitorinox every day!
Those are both good tools! the wingman is one of the few Leatherman with spring assist pliers and should get more credit for that alone!
file can use for ya finger nails, as a guitar player.. its good
Kind of glazed over the tweezers. I like having that on my EDC for splinters or getting in tight spaces. FYI, price went up to $70 with inflation and everything.
Wave all the way all day.
This isn't the same category.
You might as well compare the Wave to the Gerber Dime.
What a statement: Nice, fucking multitool. 🙂🤣
What are the red scales made of?
It looks and feels like anodized aluminum.
Thanks for watching!
Nice review but still not for me. A Skeletool weight is close and I've never needed a scissors that a knife couldn't work...but a pliers is a must for me...use em all the time. I still can't really see why this tool weighs what it does...but hey, tons of Leathermans for every taste!
I do like my Leathermans, lol.
Skeletool clipped to my pocket, Squirt Ps4 on every keychain (Jeep and Harley), Wave in Wrangler glove box, Juice CS4 in my little bag that goes from briefcase to backpack to saddlebag, and PSTii in my tacklebox. (My oldest/longest serving - 1998)
Thanks!
you know it's hard to beat the Skeletool, one of my all time favorite tools.
@@gearsNtools thanks, I am giving a custom for a Christmas present in a few days. It will be the 2nd family member so far to get one. With them on sale right now, it's like the engraving part is free. Here's to a great 2021 for us all!
What are you filing that you need a longer file???? And remember t4 is not ment to file down a whole work project
Where's the toothpick and can opener?
Exactly ! They give you a file you'll never use instead ! It might as well have a corkscrew !
ll knives need to drop bottle opener and mount can opener instead. screw top bottles have been standerd fro 25yrs
Agreed file is awful. I would like a saw.
file is fine if only used on wood
I disagree about the file and serrated blade. I think the serrated blade on the multitools is worthless. I would rather see a replaceable surgical scalpel blade.
Serrated blades are magic awesome on multitool
I agree about the design being excessively chunky. Especially comparing it to an SAK with the same number of tools.
The file is really stupid ! The large flat blade, pry bar, cable stripper, package opener tool from the K4 would have been miles better !
Tweezers.
The music is not necessary.
It needs a saw
What a USA victorinox knockoff. Low quality no function high price what’s the point?
I think the Free T4 does a good job on the locks and the tools overall are more sturdy than the Victorinox version found on tools such as the Tinker.
That being said I'd like to see where they go with it, it has potential.
leatherman is typically much better quality than victorinox
It's VICTORINOX
