Hiya from England Thanks for posting this episode. A great storyline, great actors, great film locations and seeing Sydney back in 1975. Its just weird to see all the office tech and the phones and typewriters from the 70's - when you think it is not all that long ago TV in Britain was at its best in the 70's and to some extent the 80's and i am so glad i lived through this time but sadly, although TV has moved on i think not for the better.
"TV has move on and not for the better" you're so right, England had some good tv shows too many to mention, alot of America's shows were copied from England...especially in the 70's n 80's
The 90s& 00s as well, some true masterpieces based on classic tales. Like Bleak House & Little Doritt especially the 90s Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett!
@@Bambisgf77 OH MY you have reminded me of those series on TV and Jeremy Brett🙏 And in the last few days John Cleese has confirmed that Fawlty Towers is set to come back on TV after 40 years I remember watching it the first time round Has he had to adjust it a little to please the Tv bosses with their WOKE agenda 🤔🤔🤔👍 👍 😁🇬🇧🇬🇧
Watching this makes me realise that Anthony Valentine would've made a great James Bond. The scene where he is called into the Inspector's office and makes eyes with the policewoman is pure 007. 08:24
Hi from England I was only a child of the 60's so too young to remember much about the TV Play for Today so i have only in the last few days started to watch them and there are so many -they will keep me occupied and i am also starting to watch the Armchair Theatre TV stuff. Anthony was such a versatile actor who appeared in many TV shows from the 70's 80's and 90's and i remember him in a series called RAFFLES. Just looked when it aired and OMG 1977. Where have those years gone I agree he would have made a Great James Bond but he would have been nearly 10 years younger and when Sean got the job he was a ROUGH DIAMOND that needed 'polishing' whereas Anthony was already a polished actor.
Yes...come to think of it, he very well could have made a good James Bond. Good looking enough, smooth and self-controlled enough, the right diction for the role....
Remarkable how Tully drives straight at the shooter in the closing scene. He wants that loot and damn all. The stuntman at 1:17:35 appears to have a very close call. Good work by Anthony Valentine who was memorable as Joey Maddocks (the betting shop owner) in *Performance* (1970 - Dir.: Donald Cammell/Nicolas Roeg).
It’s interesting to see Jack Thompson, who played the widowed father in “The Sum of Us” (1994) in his younger days which also starred Russell Crowe (before Crowe became such a star in “Gladiator” in 2000). In “The Sum of Us," Thompson’s character is looking for another wife while his son (Crowe) is simultaneously looking for a boyfriend to settle down with. Amazing how much the portrayal of GLBT people has gone from being a joke in the same way African Americans were treated in film to being portrayed realistically and seriously just 20 years later. In this movie, gay and transsexual men are used as a device to show that the hero, Tully, can move through all sections of society - and just how perverse and dangerous those worlds are (grasp pearls!) - while simultaneously emphasizing his machismo and “manliness” by juxtaposing him to an “effeminate” gay man and cross dressers.
Sort of a British poor man’s version of “The Thomas Crowne Affair.” Some of the tropes (the worldly handsome sophisticated action hero, the women, the cars, the chase scene, the hyper period sets, the sinister and pitiless bad guys, etc.) are pretty predictable and a bit campy and certainly don’t help the film age well. Still fun, though.
I appreciate this was made in another time and another place, but after watching this from start to finish you've got to admit that it was bloody terrible . 🤣😂But in a good way, So' thank you . 😁
I don’t ever remember seeing this on tv. Was it afternoon theatre? I was hoping the storyline would get better as it went on but switched off at 23 minutes. What a load of garbage and truly awful acting. Does Benny Hill appear at anytime in it?

When Tully stepped out of the bushes and scared the spy😅😅. How could he be such a coward😂😂
Just came across this. Gosh, reminds me of when I had a huge crush on Anthony Valentine as a kid back in the UK. :)
The one in the tutu was my favorite..... 🤣

Love it! Thanks for uploading.
This is posted as Armchair Theater, so I assumed it was a one-off, but it seems like it might've been a series. Does anybody know if it was?
Apparently not.
Crikey...unbelievable 15 years before ...'Young Doctors...20 years before 'Neighbours!
Excellent thriller. 4 or 5 thugs torturing a defenceless woman -- horrible.

If you are from USA you'd be unaware. However you might be correct in a Bostonian Tea Party type of conclusion 😆
Thankyou 🎉
היכן צולם הסרט הזה? האם המפיקים או הבמאים לא ראו את צלבי הקרס על הרצה בתחילת הסרט במקום ביצוע הפשע?

Antony Valentlne Was to tipped to play Bond .
1:17:38 OMG!
tacky but entertaining
The haircuts that men wore in the 70s we're horrendous.
Haircuts today look as if they were cuts by rats rather bitten off i should say wot.
For example the thugs' at 44:44 and 1:02:02. Hilarious. And what about pink slacks?
@@dadodydo The guy at 22:46 could've been an extra on Planet of the Apes.
kind of lame
Awful.
Lpads of crappy "antiques" in this show.
