Glad i found your channel. I was close to selling my pocket ops and volcas. You have inspired me to keep working with them. Also just bought an nts1. Excited to see where that will take me.
They are great. The bang for the buck is through the roof. It can be a fun synth on its own, decent onboard effects, it can act as an effects processor for outboard gear, AND you can load custom oscillators and effects onto it... Or design them yourself.
Once again I have to thank you loads for the inspiration and information. Not just on the nts1, but every bit of kit I have. PO's, Volca Keys, and now my new Microfreak! Not sure if you've done anything on the TD3 bass synth. That's my only other beast. Many, many, thanks! ☺👍👍👍
- I find myself using the free Betty drum machine quite a lot, also the free reverbs from hammondeggsmusic are SO much better than anything on the Zoom MS-70CDR, just a shame the build quality isn't brilliant, the output on mine can be temperamental.
Re finicky output …On my unit I can hear the tempo clock making electric bloops if I’m not extremely careful with gain staging. But even then when you bring the clip up in a daw you can hear it 😢
Yep! Totally different. It's more like an oscilloscope/Mordax DATA with some extra utility - it helps you visualize your waveforms and let's you see what's going on with your sound.
ur videos made me buy one and affix it to my classical guitar looping rig. soooo much range of sounds added in something i velcro to my guitar. obsessed with nts1. what osc is this?
Is this a useful device with a DAW? I have Cubase and I'm looking for a digital hardware synth. This looks both dinky and fun to play. Does it work well over the USB connection to a DAW?
I just bought one to see for if it was as good as people say. The biggest problem so far is that it wont connect to Windows 11 through usb. I cant update it or connect it to the Korg library. Ive installed, uninstalled, reinstalled the Korg driver numerous times and it still wont connect to my laptop. Ive searched the internet for solutions and tried all the fixes but it still wont connect. I would say that the NTS 1 is not compatible with windows 11. Does anyone here have any advice? If not, the NTS 1 is definitely outdated for 2023 and far from awesome. I was really hoping for a great little synth but it definitely not worth it without updates or the Library connectivity.
@@FreeBeat I'd be curious to hear about what you find. I've been searching through forums half the day. Your video came up in my search for a solution. Seems like it is a common problem with windows users on forums. There are some fixes but not all with positive results. And I can't find any current info about windows 11. I want to like the NTS 1 but it's a major flaw on Korgs part if it can't be updated or connected to the Library. Thanks for your reply
I've had 3 of these because I loved the effects but the soldering on the inputs is ABSOLUTELY USELESS and comes away from the very delicate pcb after few weeks use and believe me I'm careful with my instruments. Got the Zoom MS70 CDR instead it has way more effects and built like a tank for the same price.
Dear Free Beat, maybe you could tell me what's so special about the NTS-1. I have one, and I've built it. Everyone everywhere raves about it. I still don't know why. Firstly, it's digital, yet all of the dweebs who usually wet themselves over analogue gear love it. Why? Secondly, the fact that it can't run on batteries, when pretty much anything else of the same size - including Volcas and Pocket Operators - can is a pain in the arse. Having to drag around a USB power pack that's bigger than the synth itself? No thanks. Thirdly, there's sod-all information available from Korg about exactly how third-party modifications work, or are added to the NTS-1, or what effect they have on the information that comes stored on the NTS-1. Fourthly, there's no explanation in the piss-poor manual re. what things such as "AHR" and "AR" are. As for the "ASDR" envelope, this appears to have controls for attack and release, but nothing is listed for decay or sustain. Really, what the Hell is so special about it? The fact that it's cheap? Is that it?
Just listen to the demo. At the price point I cannot think of anything else like it and holds its own as an effects unit even if the synth engine isnt for you.
I bought this as an effects box to pair with my Microfreak. I'm now hooked on playing around with the NTS in a way that I haven't been with the MF. Yes, am a beginner, and no, I don't know how to use the MF properly (yet)🙃

Great!!
Thanks!
Great little synth, I hook mine up to a key step 37 it s a shame no sound designs can be saved to the unit but for the money it is outstanding.
I used mine via midi for a show the other night. Amazing sounds out of it.
The jam you did was hypnotic, and eerily beautiful. Definitely convinced me, I am grabbing one of these asap.

I need to put my nts-1 back into my set up
Powerful sounds
Absolutely!
NTS-1 still reigns supreme in 2023!
The custom reverbs & delays are incredible. I just hooked mine back up after a year! Great content!!
Wow, hypnotizing..

Nice session. Lots of fun... Now I have to get out mine! lol
Some fantastic sounds there ❤
Oh yeah cool Session!
Agree! It's an amazing piece of gear
I ordered one a few days ago, it looks like fun :) thanks for the encouragement

That's a helpful comment, thanks. I've not bought an NTS-1 yet, and it does look rather fragile.

So the nts 2 is a different beast ? 7:02 nice 👍

@@alex-r-t thanks 🙏 for the information ℹ️
Nice video! And nice device! Have you ever tested the Nunomo Qun Mk2?

Some interesting sounds but I would never be able to play that tiny keyboard. You did fine!
There’s a midi in jack port on the back ✌️
@@eraytery8414 Ah that would fix the issue, thanks!
Hey is it ok to use 3rd party USB cable with nts1 and what cable do you use to connect it with audio interface?
I use a few 3rd party usb cables. Just like anything usb cable related, make sure you are using a reputable, high quality brand!

I haven't tested with Windows 11 yet but I will soon. This could be great info for anyone out there. Stay tuned and thanks for the heads up.

Don’t see the point of one when iOS Audio Units exist
Some people prefer hardware :)
The sound quality is beyond any plugin

Interesting, mine has lasted for 3 years with no issues at all haha
