    About Fleabag:
    Fleabag is a hilarious and poignant window into the mind of a dry-witted, sexual, angry, grief-riddled woman, as she hurls herself at modern living in London. Award-winning playwright Phoebe Waller-Bridge writes and stars as Fleabag, an unfiltered woman trying to heal, while rejecting anyone who tries to help her and keeping up her bravado all along.

    I'm i only the only person who hates her dad? Talk about learning bad habits from your parents. He shuts down(and her)and she refuses to go through her own grief. The priest seems to be the only male figure that gave her some kind of attention. And not just sexual but intimate loving attention that she's needed.

      At the end of the show it emerges that the father had some unresolved issues with Fleabag mum and he just projected to her. However, I find hard to forgive how he abandons his kids just because "my wife was more interesting than me! 😢"

      @@purpleflows5680 The whole suppression/repression thing is really interesting. Like there’s that one part where he drops a tray of food and panics and tells fleabag “she mustn’t see”. I feel like that one little line is very telling when it comes to their relationship. Yet later during the sexhibition he says he’s allowed to be happy (with her). Was he really happy or was the relationship with the godmother the only thing he had to fill the hole left by his wife?

      It seemed to me that he was having a hard time being around her at first because of how similar she is to her mother so she’s a reminder of her when he’s struggling to move on. And seeing someone who is so much like his dead wife suffering through so much pain must be even harder. It’s not kind but it is understandable

      I always thought the fox was his self conscious watching over him. When the priest has self doubt or is tempted, the fox appears as a warning. I also think when Phoebe says “he went that way” to the priest at the end, it meant she’s letting him go. Like a final good bye so that she can move on and focus on herself, without a man and without her “friends” on the other side of the screen.

    Great review. My own personal take: I don't see it as a break up with "us". I actually see it more as "I will be ok" and "no need to cry" more than breaking up with her audience. I think the relationship she has with her audience depicts the relationship all of us have with our inner selves -it is what we really think, react, feel... we all have that. We all talk to ourselves... and some people will have the ability to see that, or even "hear" our thoughts.

    • @user-do4te4is9k
      @user-do4te4is9k 3 роки тому +61

      You know, that's what baffles me. At the end, Fleabag realises that she's not just a burden to her loved ones. This symbolism, Fleabag being the metaphorical fox that puts a strain on the priest's relationship with God, reduces her, yet again, to nothing more than an obstacle for the person she loves and I feel that just leaves her back to square one. Then again, I may see it that way because I'm against celibacy. Love and devotion to God should not hinder love and devotion to another person.

    I always gonna love the end of Fleabag! I have a deep connection with the show, cause when I was watching, my heart was broken, and my mental health didn't exist, so see her dealing with her own mess in the best way she could, at those times, made me feel less immature. I really enjoyed seeing her ended the show better with herself, that end gave me hope.
    By the way, I am better now. So thank you, Fleabag! And thank you to my therapist too.

      feeling this deep connection with her myself right now. I have such a hard time watching television with the depressive spirals I get, I have comparison problems when the characters are too gorgeous or have some life I'd like to have in literally anyway at all. Always sunny in philidelphia is one of the only shows that doesn't trigger any of that and this show is in that category too-- although now that I just finished it I do want to cry. May all the fleabags of the world one day walk away from their internal audience.

I have so much love to give and I never know where to put it anymore, and it’s kind of been destroying me from the inside out. Performances are the center. That deep connection that exists between her and the priest stirs something inside. Something that breaks your heart but at the same time fills us with hope. Loving is something so beautiful that the very idea of losing it makes it destroy us inside. We have to have the courage to let in what we know has the power to destroy but trust that it will not. And if it does, if it destroys us, knowing that (as they say in Moulin Rouge) what is wonderful is to love and feel loved. We keep learning, we keep failing, we keep hurting with our mistakes. But let's continue with an open heart and everything somehow leads us to one of many happiness. I love that a show like fleabag that seems so full of cynicism can leave such a beautiful background message

    I’m still so curious about why the priest specifically can tell where the camera is, he looks at it and screams in one scene specifically, I’d assume it’s because he KNOWS her, he loves her most out of all the other characters in such a permanent way. I kinda love that to be honest, love changes everything, including the show and its solid structure. I also didn’t clock the fox thing having a meaning, but damn do I want reassurance in how all the characters lived the rest of their lives, what happened and if they were happy, things like that.

    there is something else, i'm not sure if it was planned or is just the coincidence to end all coincidences but when fleabag is sitting at that bus stop at the end of the last ep, there is "ЖИВОТЕ" spray painted on the plastic wall (or whatever it's called) of the bus stop, it's like center frame, can't miss it. So "ЖИВОТЕ" translates to "oh life!", with either a pissed off or joking undertone depending on the situation, and in all south slavic languages (maybe other slavic languages too, not sure) is used in the same way, when something shitty happens people just throw out the "oh life!" but there's always an unspoken "what the hell did i do to deserve this" that goes with it. and i had fun with that, it's kinda loaded and adds quite a bit to that ending, if indeed it was intentionally put in. but it does seem a bit too obscure to be a possible reading. i wanted to share anyway, yall can do whatever you want with it

    I loved the show!! It was so well writed and performed that it just brilliant. I didn’t get the ending so I’m very glad you did this video. I’m also happy for “Fleabag” and I like to think that I helped her cope with her pain by just being imaginary there…..but I must say I didn’t get closure between her and the priest… and I’m in pain 😭

    Although her life seemed messed up...the hard part will come after the ending...getting up and rebuild your life again...that’s the hard part

    I did find Chase and Stephen's guinea pigs in the cafe, and chatting amusing! That actual conversation was actually on a jump-seat going to Tel Aviv and Chase was a 1 year old. And liked her black and white knitted jumper and baggy trousers with elasticated waistband and Bridget Jones style gurdle underwear and the conversations together. Very conservative and old fashioned dress sense. It was actually navy blue top and navy blue baggy old lady trousers with a drawer string but the same style.
