I have updated links to all products mentioned in the video. A lot of people ask me where to buy especially the Mungyo 120 colors set outside korea. Well good news if you live in Germany or in other areas around you can get it on amazon website now : amzn.to/3Si56HX.
Important to know….oil pastels need to stay in a cool place. If you buy them online during warm weather, it is very likely they will be melting by the time you get delivery…especially if Amazon or postal leaves them on doorstep! If they are warm when you receive them, put the box in refrigerator for a little while to allow them to get firm. I had a set of Paul Rubens delivered by Amazon that was so warm I had to return them..the individual wrappers were saturated with the pastel oils…a mess!
The Mungyo and Caran D’ache are my new favorite. If you want very soft pastels but on a budget, its worth saving up for a small set of Sennelier.
I like sennelier but Caran D'ache is still my number one. If Mungyo colors are little bit more vibrant I think I would choose Mungyo. I have the full set of Sennelier now but there are a lot of transparent colors in there. I prefer opaque colors more.
Thank you for your honest reviews!! You really helped!!
Good review and I completely agree with your recommendation of Sennelier and Caran ‘Ache and then the Mungyo.
Caran D’ache will last a very long time compared to Sennelier because they are a firmer pastel stick but still soft. Same for the Mungyo.
I almost bought the Faber castell and then chose the pentel instead just because it was cheaper. Lucky that I did because you’re not the first one to say the Faber castell is terrible. The pentel has been brilliant for me. They’re soft enough to blend and a wide range of colours to play with. I don’t have Paul Reuben’s, or sennelier in my country yet and mungyo is only starting to make its appearance. Caran‘dache is just too expensive and has a smaller barrel than most. I don’t think one needs such expensive supplies to make ever day art. I’m very happy with the pentel. Huge bonus that it’s affordable.
My favorite set ist also the pentel and you are right for making everyday arts pentel is more than enough. But they loose vibrancy quickly when exposed to sunlight. Its is better with protection spray but still the colors get dull If that makes sense. If you keep your arts in folder or in sketchbook they are still fine.
I already had the bigger Pentel set when I bought the Faber Castel one, thinking it would be best. I don't even know if I'll buy the Faber Castell ones again, bcs it's much more expensive than Pentel and worse in quality
Enjoy seeing your review of all the oil pastels you have. I didn't know there a new PR set. The colours are nice! The set I have are too bright and unnatural looking to me
That is my favorite set of PR but Morandi colors from Kouelox or other Chinese brand are also fine. Since I have a lot I don't buy more.
great informative video xx
Thanks 😀
Such a nice review, just exactly what I was looking for 🤗👏
Thank you so much for watching and giving me great feedback 😀. I am more motivated now doing other reviews 😊
@@artholic9331 Aw, you're welcome so muchh 🤗 I was contemplating buying the faber castell and the caran d'ache ones, thanks to your review - not confused anymore. Just a little tip you can try making your videos a little bit smaller in duration, not that I didn't enjoy watching this one but I've noticed that apparently, people prefer shorter videos.
@@art.by.mona_ that would have been a desaster if you had bought the Faber Castell :)) I did when i was a beginner and listened to reviewers who are not experienced with oil pastels. There is one artist i have watched so far, agrees with me that they are horrible. Its BlackBean CMS. Just wanna support him and save some untainted souls with my reviews :)) so i did not care much about the length of the video. But i did notice that the editing is less painful when the video is short. 🤣
I am still learning and am really greatful for every feedback 😊🤗. So i guess you just went with Caran Dache then?. Let me know if you like them 😉
@@artholic9331 oh, yes I too watch BlackBean's videos, his reviews are amazing :)) Actually I only use vegan art supplies, so I am not quite sure whether the caran d'ache ones are vegan, apparently they are, so will try them out and let you know 🤗
I have neocolor 1 too. Really satisfied even it was a crayon set.
I wish they would produce a bigger set like neocolor 2 or 120 colors :))) find it a little bit wasteful to use neocolor 2 dry since they are more expensive.
Great video. I am one of the few that prefers caran d’ache Neopastels over the Sennelier. I think it’s just my style that the less creamy pastels work better for me.
I am also team Caran Dache :)))
Neuer subscriber hier.
I recomend Mont Marte oil pastels, very soft, well pigmented, 120 pcs set around 37 dollars
Thanks. I have heard of this brand before but I didn't know they offer such a big set. 😳...unfortunately this set is hard to get in Europe.
they're available now on amazon germany and suuuper affordable. Haven't bought them myself but am definitely considering it :)
They are awesome and really affordable. You should try. I got the 72 set and I am testing them. There will be a future oil pastel update video for sure.
I've actually just found that the Artecho are basically the same product and 10€ cheaper than the Mont Marte so I'll probably be trying those out.
Looking forward to your new video! ❤️
@alessamiridis5476 please let me know your experience then. Because I bought some sets lately to compare but for me the Artecho is not as similar to the Mont Marte one . But it is just my opinion and it depends on how you use oil pastels normally as well.
I am having a hard time telling the difference between the Mungyo artist grade and student grade pastels. How can you tell?
The artist one has Gallery on their packaging. I hope that helps.
It is a year later from this excellent review. (Now Feb '24) Paul Ruben has released the Haiya line, which I am told is a Sennelier dupe. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your Feedback :) weil I think the old one is already similar to Sennelier or a dupe but the consistency is not the same for each stick in term of hardness, pigmentation etc. Its not the case with Sennelier. I think Paul Rubens had quality control issue in the past and it got better with haiya Line. Since I already have 3 Sets i am not really interested to get haiya set, just to get a little bit better quality. But If I was new to Paul Rubens I would have chosen haiya Line instead of old ones.
I‘m also in Switzerland. Can you please inform me where I can buy Pentel 50 pieces (orange box) and Mungyo 120 pieces set?
The orange box you can find it on gaestecker and for the mungyo I have not found any store which ships to switzerland directly. I recommend you check out eBay/ali express. If you live near the border to germany, you can let it shipped there. Sometimes, it's cheaper.
Did you find any place online where you can buy the mungyo ones separately which ship to Europe? I am running out of white 😢
hi :) i have seen them on ebay uk. Costs about 3 dollar per stick though. But for that money you can also purchase Caran Dache white, which is actually better in my opinion.
@@artholic9331 tnx for the reply 🙏the carand’ache was indeed my second option 😊
Thanks. What kind of your paper is?
You are welcomed. I use Claire Fontaine mix media paper
have the pentel 12 colors and I have some difficult to use them and another one that is a brasilian brand , I try all paper that I have , do you have some tip to build a relationship with pastel?
I saw the pencil video I just have one polycromos color I think I don't choose well, it is kind light turquoise color , I just have the schooler types, when I was a kid in the 90',s my dream was the fabercastell 24 or 36 colors that came with a tiger in the box, I don't know if the package is the same in all countries .
which brand is popular in you country ?
you need more colors with pentel because they are student grade so they do not mix well. An other option is that you mix them before hand, just chop off some sticks and mix the color you want with pallet knife. You can also mix few drops of linseed oil to make them smoother but the colors will be less pigmented or vibrant because you dilute them with the oil. Do not use smooth paper and less than 140 g/m2, so normal sketching paper or printing paper will not work. I am not professional artist so the clairefontaine mix media paper is fine for me or i use sketching paper with bigger grain and at least 200 g/m2. Use canvas or wood/ sanded paper if you have bad ones like the farber castell. I hope it helps a little bit. I will make a video about oil pastel techniques in the future after i am done with the coloring pencils :) . What is the brasilian oil pastel brand? Love to try new oil pastels even though i should not buy more ^^
for coloring pencils the packaging is different everywhere and every brand is popular except prisma color. Other brand just dominate more in europe. Prisma color is pricy here. Depends on website they are even more expensive than polychromos or in same price range with derwent or caran dache when they are on sale.
The Fabers are appalling!
Don't get it. You'll waste your money
thats what i said lol@@artholic9331
