mangopower97 The white one scored with a hit to the torso, there is the right side "migi dō" and the left side "hidari dō" or "gyaku dō"! They where in a fist to fist position called "taiatari" and from there, there is the option to go out of it with an attack going backwards. In this case the withe one aimed his sword against his opponents head so the red player blocks his attempts with having his sword on the height of his head so the white one had the space to hit the left side from the red fighters torso!
Uchimura (white), if you look at the slow mo, white raised the tip of his sword, making red think he'll strike the head, so instinctively he raises his sword horizontally to block, but white was planning this and instead went for red's wrist while his sword was raised. No, I'm not making this dramatic by all these planning out attacks and reverse psychology stuff, it's part of the curriculum lol. If you want to hit the wrist, aim for the head, if you want to hit the head, aim down, if you want to hit the waist, again, aim for the head (so the opponent would expose their waist by raising the sword for a block). Same thing with the techniques used in sword locks. When you lock swords, if you want to hit the head and retreat, you push their sword up so they naturally try to pull it down and overcompensate. If you're aiming for the waist push down so they'll try to pull their arms back up and expose their stomach. Literally works 99% of the time since it works against human reflexes.
I'm thinking about learning sword-fighting as a martial art. I really like kendo but it's hard to find a school around here. fencing is more popular but the youtube videos that I've seen show that it's more of a sport (who touches first) than a fighting style. any thoughts?
I want to learn how to use a sword, like in the movies and stuff, its looks fun, but i dont know where... I guess that is the same thing you are looking for? Yes, fencing is just who touches first i went but my knees hurt too much (they are bent at all times)
in shiai (competition) you fight 1v1 and whoever gets 2 points first or has more points after time will win. if you have a draw you have a round of sudden death meaning whoever scores first advances. in order to make a score your hit must be accurate on target location (head, wrists, lower body or throat), while striking you have to perform kiai (battle cry so to say) in which you can call what you hit like MEN (head), TE (short form of KOTE meaning wrist), DO (body) or TSUKI (throat). when performing a scoring hit you must have correct posture and footwork, including the kiai the moment you hit (this means ki ken tai ichi, which means to bring footwork, strike, kiai and body posture into 1 point together). after you hit you have to perform zanshin. you do that by showing strong posture and mental awarness as well as moving yourself in a position in which you can control your enemy. this subject is a little tough to explain but its like i would be like DONT MOVE BITCH OR I CUT YOU IN HALF. so a scoring hit demands physical and mental strength and awarness :)
Corey91666 When the guy with fighter with the red flag gets hit, do the judges raise the red flag so signify his being hit, or the white flag to signify the white-flag fighter doing the hitting?
The goal of the game is to hit your opponent in either the head, their wrist, their left or right waist, or to stab em in the freakin throat. Whoever gets 2 points first win. However, to score a point, you need to have a good yell with your diaphragm and not your throat (strengthens your core and strengthens your hit), your body's in sync with your attempt to strike (again for the sake of a strong hit), and the correct strike (striking with the tip 1/3 of the sword, which is the sharpest, on the right spots, with a sufficient amount of strength). You see people whack each other continuously and not gain a point, it's because the judges think that some of the requirements weren't met. You have to have a one strike one kill mentality, if the judges think your hit was wishy-washy you don't get a point. The reason why I call it a game/sport is cuz it doesn't model real combat. It's a striking sport and doesn't incorporate cuts, regardless it's still funny than actually learning martial arts like kenjutsu or iaido cuz you're constantly in physical combat while "martial arts" with swords are often too dangerous for sparring. An example being the diagonal cut from kenjutsu, the cut extends from a person's shoulder to their waist...so how do you simulate a person being cut in half? Also, the lack of ability to repeat this strike since one of these strikes would break your opponent's collar bone (there's no method to armor that area). Hence, I still think Kendo is still the funnest sword sport purely because of the speed and endurance required :3 The armor is like 20 lbs, the sword is only a couple pounds but if you swing it at that speed and that many times, you'll be unable to breathe within a minute. The game isn't as easy as it looks lol
many people say that western longsword use muscle and raw power and kendo is true martial well look at this, people use bamboo to get point not to cut or stab western sword still look good doe
Love the zanshin at 3:29 - "strike do, then run for your life". :)
Mao basically

3:25
DAT DO! The finish was mind blowing!!!
Today i will begin to teach myself Kendo
3:29 Mayweather would be proud!
4:15 just like this year, Uchimura's kote strike is determined to be his opponent's entire right arm XD

No conozco la reglas del Kendo, que emocionante es!.
El arte del kendo es mi pasión, soy guatemalteco,1 dan
Жаль, что камера бякиста немного. в замедленном воспроизведении все мутновато
very impressive
Go back up you're missing it...
How did white score at 3:25? Didn't red block it? I have no idea about the rules of kendo or how it works someone please explain.

to further simply this post...
Red blocked to his right
White hit red on his left
The guy was blocking the wrong direction
Who scored at 6:00? The camera angle makes it confusing..

do kendo ... its tough to train but it will pay out if you invest properly into training ! :)
I want to learn how to use a sword, like in the movies and stuff, its looks fun, but i dont know where... I guess that is the same thing you are looking for?
Yes, fencing is just who touches first i went but my knees hurt too much (they are bent at all times)
Thanks! :D
Sylorinnis it's really awesome! but it's unavailable in my country :/
i think mine too D:
4:15 and 6:48 didn't get kote, but shinpans raided flags...sad
I was looking at 4:15 trying to figure out where he scored...so I'm not crazy?
he did get kote @ 4:15 its fast and easy to miss. and @ 6:48 is kote too
David Smith nope. he hit upper elbow. it wasn't even close. look at carefully
David Smith Nah. 6:45 is elbow or higher. Not kote at all.
edit: just rewatched 4:15 as well. That should without a doubt not have counted.
If there's a harder sport to judge than kendo, I don't know what it would be... :)
@ Chiakiii1 it was a KOTE !!
So faaaaaaast my eyeballs dropped out!!!!!!!!!
太猛啦哈哈哈哈!
Can anyone explain how kendo works?

+DanMahBoy if red scores the judges raise the red flag :)
@@Corey91666 i know this is a really old message but yelling the place your attacking wouldn't that give the opponent a slight advantage?
someone tell me whats the goal
