I have to briefly object to the implications around Jaclyn leaving John. "He was finally sober and excited about his future and she ended the 9 year marriage" - that's delivered like 9 years with an addict don't wound you as a partner. That's not fair. I spent 10 years with an addict. He got clean after I left and felt fully entitled to another chance. I "wasted" a decade of my life supporting you while you eroded my faith in humanity, my self-worth and my excitement about life. You don't just get to pretend that didn't happen because you finally decided to take your impact on others seriously after wasting a third of my life hurting me.

You know what stings and is horrible?
Jaclyn always presented herself with the "I'm relatable because I do every day things that broke people do" and had this story about humble beginnings and starting from scratch and dreams coming true like a fairytale when her father was literally rich. There was no struggle, she already had it as a kid; so the whole struggle thing feels like a spit in the face of us who are actually struggling.
We can't call up our parents to bail us out financially because they're struggling too. Jaclyn always had something to fall back on if her career didn't work, yet she acts like what she's done is do or die for her or else she's going to be poor "again."
I hate that. I hate how influencers or celebrities have these sob stories about struggle and, while being immensely rich, still try to relate to those barely making it money-wise.

I have never watched a single Jaclyn UA-cam video. I've heard of her; but the beauty guru era always came across as forced and toxic...even peripherally. Yet, this video is actually rather fascinating. When I choose to view women speaking about beauty, it is and has ALWAYS been OLDER creators that I gravitate to. I ONLY watch women of a particular age...typically 50 and over. Even as a very young woman of 21/22, I had preferred taking the advice of women who were not preoccupied with trends. Older women had been wearing makeup and trying skincare for DECADES. They understood it was not about keeping up with the Jones' but about looking their best selves. That felt more positive, sage, and wise to me, always. I was not surprised when the beauty guru bubble popped. Success takes people where character cannot sustain them.

I found that part heartbreaking too. However , I sadly wasn’t surprised at all. If you think about the foundation of their relationship ,this was a matter of time that she’ll do the same thing to him , that she did to her former boyfriend . It’s quite obvious that the time she packed all his stuff , she was already dating his friend . John was battling with addiction for years , so it would be unfair to blame all of it on Jaclyn . However, gestures like her disrespectfully drinking with her friend on his face in those videos make me question the kind of support he had while he was still married . The fact that he didn’t make it , makes all of this even more devastating indeed .

Beautydom is the creator of Jaclyn Hill Vol 1 (after year 1, they have leased it for sale to brands like Crown as their OMG palette) while Jiaxing Huasheng is the creator of the James Charles palette (which was also leased to Wet & Wild for their "dupe" version).
