  • In this video I setup and review the HiBoost 4K Smart Link Cell Phone Signal Booster. This will work with the major cell phone carriers including At&t, Verizon, T-mobile, and Sprint. It covers up to a 4,000 square feet area. I set up the booster at my father's house in the Pocono Mountains where cell phone reception is bad. I usually only get one bar inside the house. How well with it increase the signal?

    I am going to order one of these and put it up at my mother's place, She is in a rural location in a area with a lot of hills and gets no cell phone reception, like you said, you miss all your important calls that go to voice mail. She is 76 years old and like a lot of older folks she refuses to give up her landline. $400.00 a really high price point but it is something that will help increase your property value.

    This appears extremely good inside most houses these days. The last few houses I lived at in the last 15 years had very bad reception. Sprint gave me a free WiFi to Sprint indoor tower of sorts, but admits that neighbors might also reap the benefits at the cost of my broadband internet. Good times. This booster is a much better option and doesn't use the internet. Nice video.

    I installed one at my camp that got 1-0 bars outside on the deck all of the time. Put it on a pole 25 feet in the air. After a little orienting I now get 3-4 bars, can talk, text, and USB tether my phone for internet. A real game changer, and worth the price.

    Im glad I watched this review! I have been looking for a new booster and had seen these. I will NOT be buying a Hi Boost because of unnecessary personal information collection. Hi Boost does not need my location nor does it need an account to set up, simply pair it like any other bluetooth enabled device. The price is fairly reasonable compared to other brands I looked at.

    I would assume that the booster is bi-directional so your outgoing signal is boosted as well (i.e. receiving and transmitting amplifiers)?

    I got another brand to enhance the T-Mobile 5G internet connection box I started using after dropping cable T.V. Great cell phone service by T-Mobile in my area (much better than Verizon Wireless), but the internet box didn't work that well and the service would occasionally drop out. I added one of these and the internet connection has been solid since then. It even works on my 'cord-cut' and antenna-connected television when watching a streaming service. Great product for the one-time cost and installation was pretty simple.

    We have a cabin in the mountains in a very remote area of Tennessee where a cell phone signal is virtually non existent. Looking at graphs provided by Verizon, our location is shown as there is no signal available but I went a head and purchased a signal booster hoping it may help our situation. Utilizing GPS, I was able to pinpoint the nearest cell tower location which enabled me to point the directional yagi antenna that came with the system at the tower. Upon energizing the system, we were able to get a signal that was weak but better than no signal; we would drop calls unless I stood right next to the indoor antenna to get the strongest signal. The problem we encountered is that the closest cell tower is over 12 miles away and pulling a signal from that distance is challenging especially with the terrain that was between our cabin and the tower. Hoping that I could improve upon the signal strength, I began reading information on line regarding cell phone amplifiers and it became evident that I needed a higher gain antenna than the one that came with the unit including cable that had less dB drop per foot as I had almost 70 feet from the antenna to the signal amplifier. I purchased a Log Periodic Directional Yagi Antenna 15dbi Gain for 3G 4G LTE XLTE, and RG11 cable replacing the RG6 that was supplied and it made all the difference in the world. No longer do we have any dropped calls, I can move freely about the main room in our cabin and we now pull in LTE signal strength so we can do face time or even stream videos on our phones. I also installed a Verizon Mifi next to the indoor antenna and I can use my laptop now which is vital since I have a business in Ohio and I need to do estimates, write programs and other associated work on the computer. Cell phone boosters do work, sometimes you have to make adjustments to get an optimal signal but don't give up hope if you install one and it does not greatly improve the situation.

      RG11 cable? Is that the big fat cable ham radio buffs use?

    • @dougweaver8317
      @dougweaver8317 4 роки тому

      @@ToIsleOfView overall, it is less than 1/8" larger in diameter, the signal drop for the length that I have is half of what it was for the RG6 cable. The RG11 is what was recommended to use from the manufacturer of the signal booster when I contacted them regarding how much cable run I had to my external antenna. I changed the cable and with the original antenna, there was a stronger signal, it jumped to 2-3 bars and 3G coverage but when after I installed the Log Periodic antenna, it jumped to 4-5 bars strength and LTE coverage. I am not sure if this is the same cable used for Ham Radio buffs, not familiar with that equipment.

    Even in a city, if you live in an historic building your cellular reception can be poor. I lived on the 3rd floor of a three story building built in 1920. The plaster walls still had the majority of the original substructure, including the "chicken wire" type mesh. It was like living inside a Faraday cage. Most of the windows were also very old, and I wouldn't be surprised if they contained lead.
    You'd think that being on the top floor my thin, uninsulated roof would allow in a decent signal, but unfortunately no. It wasn't uncommon for calls to disconnect. If I wanted a signal that was sometimes decent I'd have to stay in one of two spots.

    ok - has anyone tried to use two of these in a (large) house. I'm guessing they will operate independently, but won't transfer the signal from one to the other as you move around the house. Had a question regarding cell directional antennas. Do you have to have a clear, visible line of sight of cell tower (being able to actually see the tower) for a directional antenna to work? My neighbor got something similar except much smaller to boost his cell phone signal but there was an additional fee so he basically had to pay twice for cellular service. His regular monthly charge for data plus an additional charge for the data that the booster improved the signal so he could use the phone.

    I understand that antennas are frequency tuned for the maximum gain but the larger TV antennas get wide frequency gain from larger element arrays. So why cant a BIG VHF/UHF TV antenna be amplified in the Cell Reception area and get equal or better reception than this little enclosed yagi?

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  4 роки тому

      A big TV antenna is optimized for different frequencies then cell phones. Cell phones use higher frequencies which work better with smaller antennas.

    will a cell booster like this bridge a 3G phone signal onto a 4G network?

  • @riverraisin1
    @riverraisin1 4 роки тому +2

    Just a tip for those who have trouble with reception at home - I switched my phone from LTE (4G) to CDMA (3G) and my signal went from marginal to 3 bars instantly. Go to SETTINGS - CONNECTIONS - MOBILE NETWORKS and select something other than LTE. Your phones options may be different than mine, but you can probably Google it for your particular phone. It'could save you hundreds of dollars, but if there is no signal at all it may not help.

    • @volodumurkalunyak4651
      @volodumurkalunyak4651 4 роки тому

      There is a reason you'r phone will stick to weaker LTE signal rather than stronger cdma signal, like getting ready for GSM (2g), CDMA 1x (2g), UMTS/WCDMA/HSPA (3g) and CDMA EV-DO (3g) sunset (ending of 2020 for Verizon USA).
      Furthermore if 2g/3g network is overloaded and 4g is not, only option for voice calls can be 4g LTE. Adding insult to injury 3g cdma ev-do does NOT support voice so only voice service cdma - only user's get is very limited 2g cdma 1x.

      No actually, $400 is not too much money. I bought a $1000 phone from Rogers who guaranteed me good signal because it was 3 band. Wrong, it didn't work. So I was stuck without signal for a year until I moved back to the city. I would have to go for a drive to make a call. I would be alerted of a message 3 or 4 or sometimes 24 hours later.

      If you have an iPhone or most carrier provided Androids you can use wi-fi calling. Last year I tried out a few Androids and couldn’t get an usable signal and was told by Best Buy clerk that non-carrier Androids don’t have wi-fi calling. I also tried a carrier Samsung A20 which had wi-fi calling... which didn’t work unless it had a good cell signal. I went back to iPhone with wi-fi calling and now “it just works.”

    Hey Tyler. Love your vids. Good info.
    Question: Would this device also help increase WiFi reception? We don't have WiFi in our house but there is a source that's just a bit out of range. Only about 30 feet or so. " So close, but yet so far."
    Secondly, why didn't you leave the booster with your Dad and brothers? Ya gotta share the love, ya know?❤
    Finally, this vid would be great for a drinking game. Ever time you say "cell phone booster, " take a slug. Good for your next party.🍺
    Hope you can answer my WiFi question. Thanks much and God bless👍

      Depending on how you want to use the WiFi, there's a lot of different options available for next to nothing as far as cost and needing no technical skill.
      If you just wanted to use it for a laptop or desktop that has a USB input? You could get a WiFi USB adapter, USB extension cable, and build a windsurfer parabolic reflector from cereal box cardboard and aluminum foil (MUCH easier than you're thinking, search it here on UA-cam). Plug the cable into the device, plug the WiFi adapter into the other end, stick the adapter into the hole in the windsurfer where the antenna usually goes... And you're off and running.
      There's tons of stuff here on UA-cam for what you're looking for. 👍👍

      I don't think this will help with WIFI reception. You'll likely need a wifi repeater. They sell them at many stores. As far as your second question I had to return the booster to the sponsor. The joke was made in fun. Only my brother has issues in his room. My father and other sibling have rooms on the end of the house that faces the cell tower so they can make/receive calls there.

    Tyler,
    I love your videos I’ve learned some good tricks for OTA and all the info on ATSC 3.0 is invaluable. You may want to reconsider your endorsement of this product or at least amend this video to address these issues. To begin I have no agenda towards HiBoost nor any of their products, my issue is with these products in general. I had been in the wireless industry for 25 years and I have had to track down these devices hundreds of times because of out of band and in band interference. To be fair HiBoost does say in the owner’s manual that before use you need to contact your carrier and ask permission to operate. Depending on the area and carrier you may not get permission. The unfortunate thing is that it is in the rarely read FCC rules section.
    The carriers have several free options to use phones in poor coverage areas. One is Wi-Fi calling and another is a network extender (Verizon name). If you’re in an area with no internet and poor coverage these can be a good solution, but installations can be complicated. You must make sure you have enough antenna isolation between the donor antenna and the Tx antenna, you need to know what channels to turn off so you don’t make things hard for other carriers, you should have knowledge on using a frequency analyzer to make sure the return signal isn’t transmitting out of band and get permission from your carrier.
