Pokemon Gaia - ROM Hacked

- Pokemon Gaia was originally released in 2014, a Pokemon FireRed ROM hack developed by Spherical Ice, along with other contributors.
At this point, it's had it's latest release in 2018 with version 3.2, which is the version I played.
This was actually the first GBA romhack I ever completed, with myself often starting playthroughs of many in the past, but never getting all the way through them.
So what's Pokemon Gaia all about? Well, it's not very dissimilar to any mainline pokemon game, really. It honestly feels just like one.
There's not many flashy gimmicks here like new pokemon or game mechanics, it's really a standard Pokemon GBA game, with some modern canon changes sprinkled in throughout.
And even though it doesn't have anything game-changing involved, I still really enjoyed my time with it. It's still quality Pokemon, especially if you just want another “within creative limits” GBA Pokemon.
You're a kid- you get the choice of 3 pokemon from the local professor, Professor Redwood in this game- adventure in steady competition with a rival friend trainer who takes the starter pokemon with the type advantage over yours- collect gym bades through beating challenges and leaders- and eventually resolve a story that has high stakes in the game's universe.
It's Pokemon.
What's interesting is how Spherical Ice and the contributors built the Orbutus region, and which elements from newer games they chose to put in, and leave out.
I love the user name "Spherical Ice"... something oddly satisfying about saying it.
Gotta love a rival that just kind gives up and accepts that some people, (you, the player) will always have an edge.
Gaia is definitely one of my favorite rom hacks and I’m incredibly excited for v4
Been listening to the new music for the game on Spherical Ice’s channel they’re so good
I'll have to check out Spherical Ices channel! Sounds exciting!
Wow the quality of content is really good
Congrats you earned a sub!
Thank you! Much appreciated!
The only good gba game with modern mechanics before cfru/decomps was a thing. It has been four years, I wonder how many content they put on the romhack.
There's a surprising amount of stuff Spherical Ice and the contributors have been able to cram into FireRed. I think it's all done pretty amazingly for a game that can run on an actual GBA. I wasn't aware of cfru until now, thanks to you. I'm learning a lot more about FireRed & GBA rom hacking in general, now. Makes sense as to compare this to a game like Unbound.
Everyone loves an evil old lady villain
Cool i just finish this game two days ago
Funny timing!
I randomized it only slightly - ended up with Axew as my starter and my rival got Larvitar, which means we have Gaia: Dragons Edition as my main playthrough. :P
Axew as a starter versus a Larvitar rival starter is just awesome. Perfect way to play through Gaia.
@@anotherblowncartridge Absolutely. It also ups the difficulty level early since your weak against Gym 1. Feels fitting for the setting and story somehow.
@@Houlgravely Being weak against gym 1 is always a good humbling experience
Looks like I found a new game to dump in insane amount of time into
Gaia has the capabilities to sink in WAY more hours than I put in.
So it's a game that takes all the elements of new pokemon games (or at least new when it was made), bundles it all up into a gen 3 game and then makes it a story about the pros & cons of modernity. Interesting. But the rival sounds like he isn't a douche bag from start to finish so 0/10.
I need to hate my rival so deeply it stays with me for years. Every time I read "smell ya later", my blood should boil, and I should yearn for the next time I can wipe out his entire team.
The fact that they’re not upgrading this game really pisses me off
Unfortunate, but maybe its because they're busy making something new!
Are they still working for v4?
A good question; I'm not sure yet. Hope they are.
