I highly recommend Pokemon Empyrean, it has been finished for a while now and has a somewhat dark yet entertaining story. You can choose from any of the starters from gens 1-7, encounter new regional forms, use Mega Evolution, find wild starter pokemon (they are somewhat rare though), etc. You have 2 main rivals, one is nice to you while the other is a bit of a jerk. I would definitely say that it isn't for everyone, but I still think that it is a 10/10 Pokemon Fan Game.
Granted I haven’t played many pokemon fangames at all or any actual pokemon games after black and white but I can’t see anything being better than empyrean and it genuinely confuses me how little attention it gets online. Does anyone know why?
I strongly recommend that you play reborn and all the similar games (rejuvenation and desolation) but specifically reborn is an amazing game that deserves so much more love
@@JohnSmith-rr3jt clearly it's just a case of way more people like Reborn, rejuvenation and desolation than you think. I also like them but I've never played desolation yet. Imo they are pretty good fan games, quite up there with some of the greats like Uranium. No fan game is perfect, but millions of people like these ones mate. Not sure why people seem to immediately say "must be bots man, just cause I like the game must mean everyone else must think it's trash"
I'm surprised you didn't have "Pokemon Infinity" on this list. It seems like a storyline that would suit your taste from all of your suggestions in your top ten!
You got almost all my favourites on here. Only one missing is solar light and lunar dark but you also introduced me to some games which I hadn't heard of but are totally my thing. Great video! (and Merry Christmas if you celebrate)
Fair question, Zwiggo: Have you tried Pokémon Rejuvenation? If you like challenging games, like Reborn (This one is made by a similar team connected to the reborn one), you can play it and enjoy it.
Personally the fan game I enjoy the most is Pokemon reborn, I have played a few more and they just don't hit the same (my opinion ofc). The story and characters are amazing, has a great length, the aesthetic is unique, offers you different choices that change the plot... But most importantly the difficulty. All the gym leaders have 6 pokemon and you will find 18 of them, 1 for each type + a level cap. But that's not the greatest part, to me the best addition are the fields, a perfect mechanic. Basically they get the idea of gen 7s terrains and take them to a whole new level. There's a total of 37 fields, each one with a long list of effects that you should take into account to win, every gym leader has a different one and they have mastered their advantages. You can change and summon fields using certain moves or abilities, they are spread all over the world. A small example: misty terrain will transition to the fairytale field when tailwind is used (the mist dissipates revealing a fairy kingdom). Fairy, Dragon, Steel and armor/shield/sword/singing related moves become stronger. Steel becomes super effective against dragon types (based on the idea that knights kill the dragons in fairy tales). Fire moves gain dragon as subtype, based on the idea that dragons breathe fire in fairy tales. They also add the concept of "seeds", items that can be held by pokemon and activate in certain groups of fields depending on the kind. In this case the magical seed gives king's shield to the user Pokemon for a turn when held in the fairytale terrain.
While I don't agree with the story being too good, I absolutely agree with the fighting, the field effects are amazing. Kinda like the pledge field effects from gen 5, you know fire, grass and water pledge creating special fields just way more expanded. I remember being stuck against titania...was still ep18 that time, because my team was hardcountered so I captured a pokemon that could learn the grass field, and used that to set up the burning field using my charizard and then I could plow through her aces with ez.
@@ebering4.039 I feel like they do a great job with the plot considering how many characters are introduced, they build each one pretty consistently and are original without losing the essence of Pokemon games (gym leaders, evil team, legendary Pokemon...). The postgame is very long and gives even more depth to the characters (they are really memorable, I can't say the same about other fangames I have played tbh). And yeah, it's always fun when games force you to use different strategies and pokemon. Even insurgence (which is the "most difficult one" I have played after the reborn trio) is pretty easy to complete with a set up pokemon (like Venusaur), that doesn't work with most gym leaders in reborn, they have thought of everything.
Great video, I know you probably hear this a lot, but you should try Pokemon Reborn and/or Pokemon Rejuvenation, they are really tough though so good luck if you do. Veel plezier.
One of my favorite Pokemon fan games would probably be Touhou Puppet Dance Performance: Shard of Dreams. Something I find interesting about it, though not everyone may be a fan of it, instead of normal pokemon evolutions each puppet gets a one time style change at level 30, turning them from their default style into a choice of 3 different types from focusing on certain attributes to completely mixing up how that puppet would normally fit into a team.
I still wish to one day see you play pokemon rejuvenation even though I know its length might just be the main issue why it hasn't been done yet (as well as it slowly but surely getting finished):/
I don't think there could have been any other answer for the top 3. Maybe different positions, but those three are the most well known and most fleshed-out of all fan-games.
16:35 the game is actually still being worked on by a new team. They put our patches and updates every once in a while and regularly do holiday events they just recently dropped one for Christmas.
I really recommend you play through Reborn - it's an amazing game with a lot more work put into them than most fangames I've found, and it shows. A gigantic character cast where every character's dialogue is unique (sometimes cringey, but in a way that differentiates them from the rest of the cast), one of the most cohesive and deep regions with sideplots literally everywhere, one of the best levels of difficulty for challenge runs, with flexibility in how you beat bosses but with them strong enough to make you have to think hard about your answers.
I'm really happy that You got sponsored by persona ,props for you zwiggo you are one of My favourites Pokémon youtubers (Even tought i dont speak english) and i hope You get to work with the persona staff again in the future.🎉🎉 Now,i'm not used to suggest games to anyone but there is a pokemon fan made game I been playing recently, the game was made in Spain (you can install the english version in the official page) and never got the chance to be popular among the non Spanish speakers so probably you never got to know about it,its called "pokemon opalo" its a huge game with 24 regional pokemon forms,2 regions,a good story,16 gym badges, all Pokemon's until legends arceus, and more.I hope you get my suggest in mind or noted for a future video❤

@@MohammadAli-uf3cg I'm pretty sure there are some regional forms, and maybe a couple of Fakemon, but it's mostly the narrative that is the most touching.
I haven't sunk more time into any pokemon game than I have into Pokemon Reborn. I've done COUNTLESS challenge runs and am still doing them. For example I've done a challenge run where I use a monotype of LC pokemon twice, normal and dark type, and I defeated the entire game. I like the difficulty of Reborn and that's what makes me happy about playing it, but it isn't as though the story is bad either, it's a pretty good story that has choices that matter and change what you face in upcoming battles. I don't know if you've played it, but if you haven't I 100% recommend you do so.
A Pokémon Fan Game that came out this year Id totally recommend is Pokemon Abstract, it’s an open world fan game that imo has a pretty good story on top of that with some REALLY relatable characters. No pressure tho 👀
I played Uranium and firstly, my stone age laptop struggles with putlocker but played the game well enough. And the game is totally worth it for the dunsparse evolution (dragon), I WISH more creators input it
Great list but man. You HAVE to try out Pokemon Rejuvenation, Reborn and Desolation. Those are definitley the 3 best fangames i have ever played. (albeit rejuvenation and desolation aren't completed yet)
Got 3 for ya, though I'm not sure if you're checking these comments over a month later. Pokemon Reborn. Game is pretty dark and some would say edgy. But there is an ABSURD amount of content in this. 18 badges and a huge field system. The AI isn't absurd, but other things are added to the game to make it extremely challenging. No fakemon and it goes to like Gen 7 without any mods. Pokemon Unbound. Made by the same dev that did Radical Red. This is a game with a relatively interesting story tie-in with gen 6. The big draw for this one has to be the insane AI and wild gym battles. Goes to Gen 7-8ish with no fakemon. Pokemon Opalo: Easily my favorite. This game has an absurd amount of content and a really well written story. The game contains the majority (but not all) pokemon from Gen 1-8 (PLA). This only has a few true fakemon (the starters and legendaries), but does have an enormous number of fake regional forms. Only real downside is the english translation (Dev is spanish) is hit and miss and some sections aren't properly translated. It has some of the best written villains I've ever seen. It's harder than your average pokemon game, but not as hard as some other fan games. Probably around B2W2 difficulty.
Pokemon Reborn is a peak fangame. So much content(16 badges plus postgame up to level 150), crazy jrpg plot, great character writing, and some of the most fun battles in a romhack.
pokemon reborn is just a bad fanfiction , I loved the game when I was a teenager but now as a young adult I can say that the game is objectively very bad. the characters, the story... the game tries to be mature/dark to please the young teenager but in the end it becomes something immature, a false maturity that you often find in manga/anime
I'm surprised that Unbound, Reborn and Rejuvenation aren't on the list ! Insurgence is my all time favorite, so I'M happy to see it there ! And I haven't heard nor tried Xenoverse, so I'll give that a try this week for sure ! Great video !! :D
I’m totally down to watch you play Uranium if you haven’t done that already. Either way, love the rom hack/ fan game suggestions. Gonna definitely give them a try
I've been playing pokemon rejuvenation lately and it's been a really good one so far! I liked reborn too, but the puzzles got a bit difficult, at least for me
@@michaeldelloro3148 They made it overly complicated, but then again it fits the difficulty of the game. The solutions are out there so ig we can't complain that much. I liked the gemstone quizzes, didn't enjoy the "color" related ones.
I think Pokemon reloaded is also amazing. Here, unlike the regular rpg style Pokemon, u move ur Pokemon and have to aim ur attacks such that they hit the opponent, while, u also dodge the opponent's attacks
Zwiggo, what's up. Idk if you'll read this but I got back into Pokemon again because of your videos. they're all full of funny moments that I enjoy very much. I wanted to reach you to get a few ideas from someone who's always updated with fan-made content, and perhaps try to get mine going as well. You see, I'm already over 30 and have always been a fan of, but never an adict. (for example, I've never battled, started collecting the cards but never got far because I was very poor at the time. - But there's one thing I've ALWAYS wanted to do. And that's create a game. Now, I really don't enjoy all this new "xeno", "dimentions", etc from these already made games, and, don't get me wrong, they're all AMAZING. But I've always felt there's that one simple game that could be made great with the right ideas. And I think I've got them... - Just don't know if it's reasonable to go into creating it, not knowing if there's already one out there needing love. I'm a developer now, so I know my way around creating (although, from what I've seen, there's no mystery since the creating is based mostly on sprites and commands, which already exist. So that's covered). But there's an idea I've got for story, and I've been writing for over 10 years now... perhaps it's time to put it to the test. If nothing comes out of this, take it as a token of appreciation for all you do. It's a really fun channel you've got. Thanks
This is a tier list for pokemon fan games, not rom hacks. Although technically, all rom hacks are also 'fan games' no one refers to them as such. They each are separated into their own categories, with games like pokemon Gaia, glaze, and emerald rogue being rom hacks, and games like xenoverse and infinite fusion being fan games. Hope this clears some things up.
A couple of my favorites: Pokemon Zeta/Omicron - The spiritual predecessor to Insurgence, made by the same creator, it's just got a ton of stuff, especially given how old it is. Since much of it was finished _pre Gen 6_, it doesn't necessarily have all the mechanics of modern games, although it does have most of the Kalos Pokemon and some Alolan Pokemon. What it does have it a full region, complete with evil team, Champion run, post-Championship plot continuation including E4 and Champ buffed rematches, time and dimensional travel mechanics, a _second region_ with shadow Pokemon, and an extensive Battle Frontier to cap it off. It's also got tons of QoL features, including items that replace Pokemon having to use HMs, IV setters, EV resetters, a fully customizable physical Hidden Power alternative, and a bunch more options through an upgradable secret base. Also, there are a bunch of interesting references and interconnections to the first 5 gens worth of games. Pokemon Retired Champion - On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, this game only came out a couple years ago and largely abandons the normal Pokemon formula, instead focusing on competitive-style battling. While there is a story, the bulk of the focus is on battles, which are handled much like Smogon's Pokemon Showdown (except against AI). The fame includes all Pokemon and mechanics up through the end of Gen 8, along with several new form variants and additional battle modes. The creator is currently working on a major update to incorporate Gen 9 as well as expand other parts of the game, and is also very responsive on his forum regarding bugs and glitches. It's a great way to dip your toe in if you want to try competitive without going up against another person straight out of the gate.
with the upcoming new additions to POKEMON THIS GYM OF MINE, i can see Zwigg0 changing this list and giving this fan game from Number 9 to a higher placement
Bruh I went to go download Myth bc it looked cool. I saw it was taken down from most sites so I joined the discord. There was a recent announcement from the dev saying one of the dev team members was framing him for a federal crime so he was quitting development 💀 wtf
I wish to see Pokemon Dark Realm on this channel its a gen 3 rom hack with a lot of bugs glitches and other issues but its still amazing my favorite rom hack of all time
One problem with Pokemon Xenoverse - I've tried downloading it from the official site and got multiple warnings about a trojan virus. So unfortunate that this popular fan-game seems to have been corrupted. 😢
I personally recomment pokemon opalo, it's an amazing game but what I mostly found incredible was the story. I've never played a pokemon fangame with a story as great as this one. On top of that, the other aspects of the game are cool, the fakemons are dope, the music is great. This is definitely a Pokémon fangame that one has to try in their life.
Not going to lie radical red not being in the top 10 is such a crime the game has raids mega evolution a somewhat different story and pokemon to gen 9! I’ve replayed the game so many times and loved it each time
To this day, im still stuck on the part of Uranium where those ninjas surround me in the sea cuz my pokes are too underleveled to beat theirs. And Xenoverse where im stuck in the Elite Four cave and cant leave until i beat Vakkum which is impossible
Pokemon iberia is based in spain, has a lot of comedy and spanish memes but is actually a very cool game, has a lot of spanish cities and three really cool fakemons starters based on spanish culture and traditions. I recommend it
Zwiggo, from what i've seen from your taste of storylines and challenge, i suggest you should play pokemon rejuvenation. I won't spoil to much but the story really gets to you. Hope you like it if you play it!
From what I have learned Pokémon Uranium is still being updated and has been for a long time. There's a group of people who really didn't want to let it die, so they made sure it didn't.
Nice video Zwigg0! I would recomend you to play pokemon REMINISCENCIA I know it's only been out for a few weeks, but it's art is mesmerizing, so it's his story, it's a pokemon roguelike game based on a linear story (so you don't choose the character you play) there are no gyms, and the game is awesome! Keep up the good work!
Please please *PLEASE* do a proper video about Uranium! It was one of the first Pokemon fangames I ever played, and to this day is still one of the most beautiful ones I've had the joy of playing.
Uranium is still my favorite fan game. The new Pokemon, Nuclear Pokemon, the story are amazing. And my boi Electruxo is the best starter. I love a lot of Pokemon in Uranium, like Electruxo, Eshouten, Baariette, Nucleon, Nuclear Arbok.
i highly reccommend pokémon ópalo, its made by an spanish creator and the story is amazing, it mixes history and politics matters so perfectly. the region is so cool and the regional variants are just awesome. also the game has a very cool kind of DLC but it features a whole new extension of the region and development of the story. a very fun game, would love you to check it out, idk if its availabe in english tho

It seems like a storyline that would suit your taste from all of your suggestions in your top ten!
yeah i agree
good opinion
My first ever pokemon fan game
Serene grace Egho blastoise is *STRONK*
Bro has to do Pokémon reborn. Phenomenal game
In Spain we have Pokémon Iberia, where all the towns have real cities names and everything is a reference of popular culture. It's simply amazing
Spaniards are very egocentric about their country so sounds about right
You got almost all my favourites on here. Only one missing is solar light and lunar dark but you also introduced me to some games which I hadn't heard of but are totally my thing. Great video! (and Merry Christmas if you celebrate)
Oh dude I started SL&LD with my friend ages ago and I really enjoyed the small bits of it that we played. I ended up getting a shiny Hamstar.
Play Pokemon Rejuvenation. It’s a true masterpiece
Pokémon Reborn and Rejuvenation are wonderful games! Highly recommend if anyone is looking for a challenge!
Both super long rejuv being like 90h in total and have some dark stories tho if u go over everything that happens in rejuv u can get demonetized
Insurgence is my favorite game and I have completed the entire story and I highly recommend to play the postgame top (In case jou havent yet)
i was 1000000% sure bout number 1 , cause this game is legit a masterpiece
best pokemon game ong

I feel like they do a great job with the plot considering how many characters are introduced, they build each one pretty consistently and are original without losing the essence of Pokemon games (gym leaders, evil team, legendary Pokemon...).
Something I find interesting about it, though not everyone may be a fan of it, instead of normal pokemon evolutions each puppet gets a one time style change at level 30, turning them from their default style into a choice of 3 different types from focusing on certain attributes to completely mixing up how that puppet would normally fit into a team.
i have tried it once it it is good
I still wish to one day see you play pokemon rejuvenation even though I know its length might just be the main issue why it hasn't been done yet (as well as it slowly but surely getting finished):/
A gigantic character cast where every character's dialogue is unique (sometimes cringey, but in a way that differentiates them from the rest of the cast), one of the most cohesive and deep regions with sideplots literally everywhere, one of the best levels of difficulty for challenge runs, with flexibility in how you beat bosses but with them strong enough to make you have to think hard about your answers.
pokemon rejuvenation is by far my favorite fan game
It can be really annoying tho
There is always ONE moment that sticks out to me from Insurgence and that is "Emerge, the great NAMEHERE" 😆
I’d love to see you come back to insurgence. It’s an absolute masterpiece, I love it.
I never heard of these. I guess I've been living in a 'Rom-Hack' hole rather than 'Fan-Game' hole?
Like, not seeing Pokemon Unbound here makes me think it is a different category entirely
You should play pokemon xenoverse, its a gem
I'm really happy that You got sponsored by persona ,props for you zwiggo you are one of My favourites Pokémon youtubers (Even tought i dont speak english) and i hope You get to work with the persona staff again in the future.🎉🎉
Now,i'm not used to suggest games to anyone but there is a pokemon fan made game I been playing recently, the game was made in Spain (you can install the english version in the official page) and never got the chance to be popular among the non Spanish speakers so probably you never got to know about it,its called "pokemon opalo" its a huge game with 24 regional pokemon forms,2 regions,a good story,16 gym badges, all Pokemon's until legends arceus, and more.I hope you get my suggest in mind or noted for a future video❤
Legit went to your discord to figure out just this. And here you are making high quality video content on the matter. Truly a great UA-camr and person!
Much Peace and Love to everyone here :)
You're the best story spoiler I've ever seen man 😭😭
Happy to knoe Xenoverse is first, i am italian and i started following the game since the first videos of the beta, a game that i played many times and i just reall love everithing of it❤
Pokémon uranium has been updated
My favorite is Pokemon Opalo by far. Just one of the most perfect games overall. Its my favorite video game overall. Especially everything until the end of the story. You didnt mention it. I think you should try it.
Yes I agree with you and it's story is amazing
A Pokemon fan game with a unique story, huh? Then how does Pokemon Infinity sound?
@@Loner098 difficulty is good? Are there good Fakemon?
Thats also important for a good new experience
@@MohammadAli-uf3cg I'm pretty sure there are some regional forms, and maybe a couple of Fakemon, but it's mostly the narrative that is the most touching.
Pokemon opalo is too easy, that's why i didn't continue to play it but the story seems good@@MohammadAli-uf3cg
Pokemon Fool's Gold is an awesome Crystal adaptation with all new regional forms of classic pokemon. Water/steel Machamp is amazing!
The fact that this video was uploaded in my birthday is sick 🔥
Fusion is #1 haven’t seen the banned one play through yet
Damn that's a good list . I recommend you to play Pokemon opalo and Pokemon infinity . These two are great . Just play them .
Pokemon Opalo deserves more love, its got an english translation. Its so worth trying out!
Some really good picks! I'd highly recommend checking out Ashen Frost & Rejuvenation next ^^
I love the fact that xenoverse is made by an italian team and i'm italian so I'M HAPPY FOR THIS
you should be proud
im playing pokemon floral tempus and i've been absolutely loving it so far! definitively worth checking out
I played Uranium and firstly, my stone age laptop struggles with putlocker but played the game well enough.
DAWG ULTRALITE ACTUALLY HAS MY JAW ON THE FLOOR I NEED THAT
pokemon tectonic is so easily the best time ive ever had playing any pokemon game
@@kholispo6800who cares the game is very much fun and that's what it matters the most
Great list. I'd personally put Pokemon Reborn up there, maybe even above Xenoverse in some ways.
I liked reborn too, but the puzzles got a bit difficult, at least for me
Victory Road wasn't fair at all when it came to puzzles.
@@michaeldelloro3148
They made it overly complicated, but then again it fits the difficulty of the game.
I was sooo happy to see insurgence on this list I love this game it’s genuinely amazing
Thanks
Shocked to see Emerald Rouge fail to make it on here, shame that's my personal favourite Pokemon Fangame.
My wife bought a brand new gaming laptop did Christmas. I’m
Going to spend so much time
Playing romhacks and fan games. Thanks for the lists.
Pokemon Desolation, it’s unfinished but it has around 50+ hours (or more) of game play I believe and goes up to the 8th gym leader.
A couple of my favorites:
Pokemon Zeta/Omicron - The spiritual predecessor to Insurgence, made by the same creator, it's just got a ton of stuff, especially given how old it is.
It's a great way to dip your toe in if you want to try competitive without going up against another person straight out of the gate.
pokemon insurgence finally has its well-deserved recognition
Bro I just woke up, and a zwiggo drop? This is goated
with the upcoming new additions to POKEMON THIS GYM OF MINE, i can see Zwigg0 changing this list and giving this fan game from Number 9 to a higher placement
Pokémon Reloaded is my absolute favourite... But I don't know if it's only in spanish 😅 It's SO GOOD.
I wonder how you'd like Pokémon Reborn if you haven't played it yet
Most of the fangame have pretty short length, i preferred the old school challenges 8 gym
Bruh I went to go download Myth bc it looked cool. I saw it was taken down from most sites so I joined the discord. There was a recent announcement from the dev saying one of the dev team members was framing him for a federal crime so he was quitting development 💀 wtf
holy shit, sounds like I gotta start doing research. I wanna know the story behind that so bad now
I wish to see Pokemon Dark Realm on this channel its a gen 3 rom hack with a lot of bugs glitches and other issues but its still amazing my favorite rom hack of all time
One problem with Pokemon Xenoverse - I've tried downloading it from the official site and got multiple warnings about a trojan virus. So unfortunate that this popular fan-game seems to have been corrupted. 😢
Pokemon This gym of mine 1:35
Pokemon ULTRALITE 3:00
I personally recomment pokemon opalo, it's an amazing game but what I mostly found incredible was the story. I've never played a pokemon fangame with a story as great as this one. On top of that, the other aspects of the game are cool, the fakemons are dope, the music is great. This is definitely a Pokémon fangame that one has to try in their life.
Opalo is my favorite. Story is INSANE
Agree
I got one for you to add to the list: pokemon reloaded, only thing to not spoil: riolu is good
Not going to lie radical red not being in the top 10 is such a crime the game has raids mega evolution a somewhat different story and pokemon to gen 9! I’ve replayed the game so many times and loved it each time
Play Pokémon The First Journey the Professor Oak Game that takes place before Red and Blue Version
not seeing pokemon unboud is CRAZY
To this day, im still stuck on the part of Uranium where those ninjas surround me in the sea cuz my pokes are too underleveled to beat theirs. And Xenoverse where im stuck in the Elite Four cave and cant leave until i beat Vakkum which is impossible
Have you ever played Pokemon Reborn and/or Pokemon Rejuvenation? Both are incredible fan games
Pokemon iberia is based in spain, has a lot of comedy and spanish memes but is actually a very cool game, has a lot of spanish cities and three really cool fakemons starters based on spanish culture and traditions. I recommend it
I absolutely LOVE Pokemon Uranium
A playthrough would be amazing content
Also it's still being updated
Hello, how can I keep up to date with this game?
Zwiggo, from what i've seen from your taste of storylines and challenge, i suggest you should play pokemon rejuvenation. I won't spoil to much but the story really gets to you. Hope you like it if you play it!
Play Pokemon Infinity It's good and has a great story and post-game
Definitely recommend Pokemon Unbound if you haven't played it
Awesome list!
Pokemon Soulstones is the best fangame you haven't played IMO. (Also Soulstones 2 but I haven't played much of it yet).
You should play Pokémon Soulstones. They have two games and both are AMAZING.
Uranium is still my favorite fan game. The new Pokemon, Nuclear Pokemon, the story are amazing. And my boi Electruxo is the best starter. I love a lot of Pokemon in Uranium, like Electruxo, Eshouten, Baariette, Nucleon, Nuclear Arbok.
pokemon bushido and pokemon uranium are just solid with a good story
i highly reccommend pokémon ópalo, its made by an spanish creator and the story is amazing, it mixes history and politics matters so perfectly. the region is so cool and the regional variants are just awesome. also the game has a very cool kind of DLC but it features a whole new extension of the region and development of the story. a very fun game, would love you to check it out, idk if its availabe in english tho
The fire gym leader from uranium still scares me, and not because of the gym battle
