  • In all the years that we've lived in the States, we always dreamed of going back to the Philippines to retire. Planning for our retirement in the Philippines took years, and God willing, it's finally happening soon.

With regards to health insurance in the Philippines, we found out that our health insurance benefits that we are still paying since we worked for the federal government in the USA were actually accepted in the Philippines, which is Bluecross Blueshield from FEHBP. The Medical City Hospital in Ortigas did accept our health insurance plan. You just have to pay for your deductible for your doctors visit and medication. They have an overseas kiosk that you can contact to learn if your health plan are covered. Last year, Saint Lukes Hospital in BGC accepted our bluecross blueshield insurance but not this year due to insurance affiliations change. They also have an overseas kiosk that you can contact and learn if your plan is accepted in there hospital. I hoped this help.

Nakakalungkot. sana, pamarisan ng maraming magulang kayo.

Nang lahat relatives here, same those peoples who knows us& close friends are all surprise ng they learned na magre- retire kami sa Pinas! Actually, say ko nga the lady talking or make.ds video ay parang si ako! Lahat ng sinabi nya sa.video yun ang reasons namin why we want to go back home, fav.ko rin si Dr.Ong! Ang wala lang kami bahay na sarili sa Pinas at mga pera sa stock market like she's talking, kasi very tight budget namin, kasi di naman kami professional like silang mag-asawa! We live pay check to pay check, kaya parang ipon namin yung 401K namin, happy na kami non, kasi yon lang kaya namin i-save! Para sa akin, instead of ignoring yun na 1day it's our time to go, kung we are preparing our retirement sa work,we have to prepare our retirement here on earth! Na pag tinawag na taU ni Lord,we can say na thank You very much Lord sa retirement time, we enjoy it with our family & loved ones while we are waiting U to send us back home, to our Eternal Father's house!❤🙏🔥

hahaha. marami oy.

You give very sound advice. We were a little bit like you guys as saving for the rainy days, having 401k, getting pensions from ssa and from the government but not as much as you earn as nurses. Our house here is paid off too and we acquired 2 lots in the phils. But until now, after retiring for 11 years, we havent decided if we will retire here or in the phils. I always think of the medical expenses even if we have substantial savings. I love how you plan your retirement. You seem so grounded. Good luck to you!

Kung medical lang naman, marami namang medical insurance sa Pilipinas. But for health insurance meron naman, depende na sa health condition mo. If it just visiting doctors, it doesn't require surgery or something na out of pocket. Then you have no choice sa US ka. Kaya it is very important merong economic freedom sa bansa.

Watching here from Canada. Very helpful content. We are also planning for early retirement in the Philippines. Since pandemic we started to talk about retirement, nagpa dual citizenship na kami, bought another farm and renovated our house in the Philippines. Now we are planning to develop our farm and saving money as much as we could if anytime we decided to retire. And like you needs more research on Healthcare insurance. Please do a vlog once you found options for healthcare. Thank you

Hi Ate Gi. I have just subscribed now. Your videos are so insightful. I moved to the UK in my mid 20s and have been here for 25 years. Still a bit far from retirement, i have the same thought process of retiring in the Philippines. I am a nurse too. Though given a chance to work in the US, I decided to stay here in the UK. Nevertheless, when retirement comes I will also be depending on the fixed income from the lifetime savings, state pension and the work pension that I have. I want to retire in the Philippines because of the same reasons you have. I am so happy to see your video and ecstatic to hear sensible stories of retirement planning from nurses abroad. I am happily single and not into mingling. More power to you both. And cant wait for the next video. Love to know what health insurance is better for balikbayans.

The moment I hear your voice, I immediately subscribe. It's just so calming. My partner and I are about to migrate to Canada as a PR. We are based in Abu Dhabi and have a normal, decent life. We were able to save so much and invest; my dilemma is about retirement, as Canada's cost of living is high, and we are in our late 30s. Our current passive income from investments allows us to comfortably retire indefinitely in the Philippines if we want to. But I'm not sure if this is enough or if it is still worth it to start a new life in Canada. So far, global mobility is our number-one reason for moving to Canada. Although we have rarely had any visa applications denied to countries we have visited. Other reasons we have are for permanency, health care, and lifestyle. I have these concerns about retirement costs, and I want to share our story as your videos resonate with me. Thank you.

Great topic. We are retiring at the end of this year and considering doing it in the Philippines. But like many, my concern is health care cost. I am apprehensive because a couple i know did an early retirement over there and it started just fine until the wife and emergency medical condition that resulted not only in surgery but a long stay in ICU. That cost them millions (pesos) in medical bills. Now i understand that there are health insurance options over there. Those who have purchased one over there could you share premiums and benefits.

I bought my house for $300k over 10 years ago with 5 bedrooms and today is close to going over $1M. Me and my wife will turn 59 in a few years. The house sale + 401k + savings will allow us a comfortable retirement in the Philippines.. and will also allow us to wait out social security until it reaches the full retirement amount. Thanks for sharing and best of luck sa inyo.

Wow! such great home value appreciation! That's amazing! We were not fortunate to be in the housing market at the right time. But it's ok. We're blessed in so many other ways. Thank you for watching ha!

@@official_ate_gi_channelsa Texas kami bumagsak 20 years ago and the last 5 years our area surged with California and New York people which caused our property values to skyrocket. Sinewerte lang talga and just wanted to share in case you are wondering why the property valuation seems high.

Nakaka inspire naman po ang kwento ninyo mam, Congrratulations po. Sana kami din mag asawa mapaghandaan namin mabuti ang retirement namin. Same po tayo early 30s po kaming mag asawa noong napunta kami dito sa US, we are now turning 40 and mas lalo namin narerealize na palapit na ng palapit ang retirement, dahil dun I feel na parang we are a bit behind dahil nga 30s na kami nakarating dito kaya late na nag start makapag ipon for retirement. Right now we are maxing out our 401k contributions, HSA and my kunti ding monthly contribution for kids College 529 plan. At the same time nag seset aside din kami kahit papaano for enjoyment like going to few vacation and eating out. We always buy used cars in cash and live in a descent size house (not too small or big). Someday we also plan na bumalik sa pinas for retirement but we are also saving more in case hindi yun ang mangyari and instead dito sa US magretire. More power po sa vlog ninyo!

Salamat po. We also started saving in our 40’s na. Kasi when we became nurses here, 40 na kami. You’re doing all the right thing. We did the same thing. As your income increases and your investment compounds, you’ll be surprised how big your investment savings will grow. Thank you po for watching!!

as a rule of thumb... by investing in a bigger and much nicer house... most likely will return a better/more equity... hopefully, that is true to your situation🙂

I think I’m the only one who never wanted to go back to Phils, Canada is home to me. I used to have a house and sold it and bought a small condo as I like to travel every year. I also don’t have anyone to get back to in PI anyway, would be nice to visit tho.

Please give us some tips about healthcare in the PH once you retire back. I have been following Doc Willie and Grandpa Vlogger . They discuss some about this matter. It’s unfortunate that we can’t use Medicare in the PH. It will be a big savings for the US gov . They they allow this .

I know. It's a shame that Medicare can't be used in the Phils. The Fil-Am nurses lobbied for this but nothing happened. You're right that it would be more cost effective to the US if Medicare is accepted in the Philippines. Thanks for watching!

Congratulations in achieving your dreams. You have wisdom and discipline. We are also retired and debt free here in Southern California but we intend to keep our home base here. The US is more secured, most powerful country in the world and has a better future than the Philippines. Its very hard to buy properties here because of the demand and we intend to keep our prime investment. Anyway, we have our own dreams and I respect your personal references for happiness and meaning.

And also travel the world while you are earning kasi pag retire ka na medyo fix na ang income mo , unlike kung nag work ka you can do overtime to pay for the travel expenses. Kasi if you wait until you are retired to travel di ka na rin sure kung ma akyat mo ang mga stairs St. peter’s basilica in Rome or yung underground salt mine in Poland 😂 … just do it before your estrogen slows down .

My mom and dad have millions when they retired in the Philippines. But when my mom had a stroke and suffered for a year before she passed all the money was gone. I had to get my dad back here in US, sold our house . But the sad thing is I could not get him the rest of his Medicare benefits like part B and D because I'm the penalty is so high. They had to calculate the penalty from the year that he retired up to the present. So all he had now is Medicare A.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. thanks for sharing your story. life is so unpredictable and when life events happen, Medicare doesn't make it easy by adding penalties to the change in service choices.
