Awesome clip!! . Hello from Auckland , New Zealand
I also went to safety razors and havent looked back.I was self taught to shave in a disposeable world with mass produced gels, foams and cartridge razors. as I got older I found the way I was shaving wasnt doing my face well and that the foams and gels were doing funny things to my face . I found the cartridge razor moisturising strips made the facial hair grow back corse. I use the King C Gillette safety razor. The Wilkinson sword blades in the black pack are the best for me . Safety razor shaving takes a few shaves and a lot of 'friendly fire' on the face to learn the finer art of this more traditional way to shave. I find its always good to clean the whole razor with a creme cleaner under a hot tap pre shave and let it soak in a hot sink for a good few minutes . a good pre shave face scrub with Loreal Charcoal to open the paws in a shower is great prep . I also find that a razor pit is a good investment to take the arris off the blade pre and post shave . The razor pit most certainly helps the longetivity of the blades as well. For me Palmolive olive oil and aloe vera soap does the business. It lathers really well . the Olive oil in the soap gives the blade the fat content it needs to have good shave and good cut on the skin. Its funny how old school shaving is making a comeback these days . Yep we are all turning into our Grandad's with shaving brushes and soap ,hahaha . Im now subscribed to your channel!!

You proved that 1 decent $10 DE is all we need. I have an expensive safety razor and a $10 (tech style) safety razor. The irony is that I get better shaves with most of my inexpensive and moderately-priced DEs. It's still hard for me for reconcile the huge price difference. IMO, I think the expensive makers take advantage of their customer base. I've pretty much stopped buying safety razors...knock on wood. Over time I switched from mostly bowl lathering to mostly face lathering after I discovered how easy shaving creams and soft soap were to face lather. As you said, we all have different preferences.

My favorite razor is actually my most expensive one. It is a Rex Konsul, which is an adjustable slant razor. I prefer the slant design because it seems to give me a closer shave with less irritation. The Konsul is also adjustable, which allows me to fine-tune the shave to my individual preferences. I have used a variety of other razors over the years, but none have come close to matching the performance of the Rex Konsul.

It looks like a Baili victory 176 razor, I’m like you I have a victory 171 from Amazon and use it daily, it’s a little more aggressive than the 176 but I love the way it shaves better than some of my more expensive razors. Great video!

That cereal bowl from WalMart looks like the right size and shape for use as a shaving bowl! Maybe a little too wide. Less expensive alternatives are also possible.

I have a ~80 Bucks DE-Razor and I'm quite happy with it. It's the first I ever bought and it came with 100 RK Blades, which work quite nice for myself, but I also have some Wilkinson Sword Blades on the back hand. The cheap "basic" ones always kept me off, simply because my dad had one and he used to have a lot of cuts in the face after shaving, so I thought it had to be the razor. Seeing you work with that cheap one really was an eye opener!
For the Tiare flowers, it seems they make an oil from it. To quote Wikipedia "This oil is used mainly for cosmetic purposes as a hair or skin treatment. In order to obtain the monoi oil (monoï, pronounced mah-noy, means "scented oil" in Tahitian), tiare flowers are infused in coconut oil."

I have had good shaves from budget razors but I’ve had nothing but great shaves from my Carbon Shaving CX 316L razor.

The vintage DE razor that flies under the radar is the Schick Krona. It is a mild/mid efficiency TTO razor with a plastic handle. IMO, far more usable than the generic post-war USA made Gillette Tech, which is too mild for my gray beard. I think I paid around $15 all told at the auction site for my Schick Krona. If you are patient, they are out there for a good price.
I generally avoid zamak razors. I don't know of any technician currently in the business, who is willing to try replating them. I hear that gun plating can be applied to them. That may be the best that one could do to restore a zamak razor that has plating loss, but is not pitted.

well I have around 32 razors, and really I use very often a very cheap one , around 4 dollar , called LORD the old version , I have a couple of these , GREAT RAZORS, also I have expensive ones , but another razor I like much is the ROCKWELL 6 blade 2, the more expensive ones normaly I use these ones maybe twice a year , so the price does not mean that the razor is great , everything depends on how do you feel it on yr face , regards from mexico robert, dont forget the lather and the slick of the soap is giving a great shave , therefor I have in my humble soap den more than 300 different soaps and in my humble blade den more than 6000 blades from 34 different brands

Prices for new razors and quality? $30, a safe risk. $8, expect a bad or unsatisfying risk. But between $10 and $15? I cannot yet guess. Still more for me to learn.

Far too many different variations to building a lather. I too use a bowl to begin building my lathers - INCLUDING for a face lather.

Brother Scott be very careful when doing a shave with one of those razors it looks very sharp and looks easy to get nicked and cut with so I just want you to be very careful by the way great videos brother all of them of course would you happen to have anyway possible for me and you to talk more privately so you can get to know me more and I can you and we can talk more about shaving and the products that you would recommend for me to try out on my self and maybe you could even tell me places around me that would sell them.

I don't know about the $5 Tech you've got there but I do know the stamped brass Gillette Tech is a good solid lifetime plus lasting razor. I have a 1939-1945 Gillette I bought for $8. It is a great shave. Not my favorite but still a good smooth shave at an affordable price. I've got Fat Boys, Slim Adjustable, Super Speeds, and a myriad of other Gillette's. All great shavers. I have a hundred or more Razors but none cost $400. I'll bet that 20% of them shave as good or better than the Wolfman. I think that's the point you are trying to prove here though. You don't have to spend $400. Or even $200. If you want a great shave it can be had for a great price. If you've been shaving with a safety razor for a long period of time then you know this. If not then listen to this man. Blades can have as much to do with the shave as the razor.

I’d rather spend that kind of money on a rare Japanese kamisori. I actually prefer to shave with a straight razor. DE safety razors are for amateurs 😉
