What other tricks have you used to help your baby sleep while maintaining breastfeeding?

How do you know whether baby needs more or less stimulation during BF in day? My nearly 5 week old is feeding for hours at night but also in day. For instance 2.30-8pm today feeding off and on with some time in between to “play” and look around but did not nap. I’m feeding on demand so whenever he’s hungry which seems all the time!

Reverse cycling is not a breastfeeding phenomenon. It happens with formula fed babies too, and not uncommonly.

I am sorry to hear this is happening. It sounds very frustrating. I would speak with her pediatrician to make sure nothing else is going on. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

Hello, thank you for this. Do you have any videos about this but for formula/bottle fed babies. I really don’t know how to help him when he only takes 2-3 ounces per feeding during the day.

Thanks for asking! I don't and I probably should. I will try to make one soon on this subject. So the trick to get him to eat more per feeding is a little difficult. Basically, when the baby gets fussy because it's time to eat, you don't feed him. Instead, you hold him and talk to him and try to buy yourself 30 extra minutes. The idea is the hungrier he is, the more he will eat. That's how you start to get him to go longer periods and eat more per sitting. Now, from birth to age 1 month, the baby should be eating 8 times per day 2-4 ounces per feeding. Babies during the first month really shouldn't be fed less. Once they reach 1 month, they should be eating approximately 3 to 5 ounces 6 to 8 times per day. Be sure to monitor your babies weight and their output if you do modify their normal feeding schedule. Good luck!

Wow -- thank you for posting this! I am a caregiver/grandmother and initially thought something was way wrong. SO relieved to learn that it's all temporary and will pass. And thank you for assuming nothing and for all the tips to help nursing mothers who are already working. So many just describe the problem leaving some even more perplexed.

My baby drinks so much thru the night. Its exhausting. He's too distracted during the day to feed longer. He's 5 months almost and has been the same for months sometime waking 15 times a night
