      😍 Thank you so much! I've saved myself a lot of money but it is fairly safe for me to do since I'm naturally fair. I use the cap on my daughter, and my son's girlfriend too. It's a lot easier on my body than using a full head of foils. I also don't have to worry about one section developing faster than the rest.

    Thank you! Salons in my area now charge $300 to $500 + for a full head of highlights. I sometimes to a school, but it takes all day and is hit & miss. This is a great solution for me.

    Been doing my own hair colour for about 20 years and it's much healthier and so many people ask me where I get my hair done as they compliment it. Saved fortune as well. Takes practice but you ll get good and I always mix few different blondes to achieve a very natural looking colour, costs me around 20 euros each time 😊

      Theresa, I'm so sorry I'm late replying to your comment. I don't know how I missed it.
      I'm starting at a natural light colour which makes it much easier. What's your natural colour? It looks from your photo that you may be around a level 6/5. It is more tricky, the darker it is. Even if I make a mistake, it blends well against my level 7 hair. Plus it's easy for my hair to get to the pale yellow we all strive for. Pale yellow allows us to tone it any colour.
      I'm a pro so if you ever have questions, I'm happy to help.
      I can't believe it's Friday already. I hope you have a great weekend. Is there anything you'd like to see me make a longer video on?

      @@JulieMeikle thank you so much for replying to my comment!! I am struggling with my hair these days! After 50 years of pretty straight flat hair, it up and decided to become really wavy, (thanks menopause lol) BUT only on the right side!! The left side has some wave, my daughter said that it could be because of hoe I sleep, but I mostly lay on my right side lol. I just don't know how to work with it. Most days I just let it air dry, but there are some days that I'd like to have it smooth, and that's a lot more work since my texture has changed!
      As far as my color, I stopped getting highlights for a while because I wanted to enjoy having a little bit darker hair (you were spot on, my stylist says that I'm a level 6 or 5), but I did get maybe 10 foils and she made it a Carmel-ish color. I love it mixed with the darker hair! Now I'm stuck on, do I get more done in about 4 months, or let it grow out, so my hair doesn't end up with loads of highlights everywhere. I'm just a mess! Lol

I struggle with grassiness. Even my hairdresser has a hard time with this with my hair. I tone with a dab of blue-black hair dye, developer and conditioner. It works better than any purple or blue shampoo or conditioner I have tried. I am just amazed that you can do a cap on yourself, even more so with long hair. And you didn’t have to use a toner? Impressive! Just for my own preferences, shorts are too short, but I also don’t like super long videos either. I can only imagine the time editing would take though. Hi! Great video. Im a guy with super short hair on top and curious as to which "volume lift" best would be best for me to purchase. I grew up super blonde and now have the lovely dishwater/dark blonde/light brown color. I've learned to do my own haircuts and fades so I'm somewhat accustomed to working on my own head haha. Since I have short hair, and keep it short on top with 0-2 fade on the side, I thought it would be more cost effective to highlight it myself since the maintenance adds up at a professional salon. I will buy any cap, lift, developer I need. I am not going for platinum but more of a dirty blonde highlight look that is somewhat subtle. Thanks in advance!

    • @JulieMeikle
      @JulieMeikle  11 місяців тому +1

      @@joshualoveday You actually can paint it on or comb your bleach through but the problem is, you won't have as much control. I always wrap the bleach with a plastic cap as well which will stop it from drying out. Dried out bleach will stop working.
      When you use a cap, you can ensure you saturate your hair with the bleach which is very important and then safely cover it with a plastic bag will allow the bleach to work it's best and get you past the yellow (brassy) stage. Painting it on, most likely won't allow it to lighten to the cooler tone you might prefer. I'm a ginger, and I like my blonde to be a pale yellow so that a purple shampoo will work for my toner.

    How do you match the blonde to the get same colour and ends?

    • @JulieMeikle
      @JulieMeikle  9 місяців тому

      In my case I'm starting at a natural level 7 so that means I'm able to get it to a pale yellow fairly easy compared to someone with darker hair. Once I take my cap off, it all blends and then I shampoo with a purple shampoo.
      But if I needed to, I could use a toner. If my ends were already the colour I wanted, I would use the toner on the areas that I just lightened.
      If you put a toner on hair that doesn't need it, it will alter the colour to something you don't want. Does that make sense?
      So a violet toner neutralizes yellow. But if you put a violet toner on hair that doesn't have yellow, you'll end up seeing a violet hue.

      It would but you're not going to get it as light as I have. If you're hair is in good shape, you can leave it on longer but still use 20 Volume. I have left bleach on longer (not on the ends) with darker hair and I've even added heat for the last 15 minutes (low heat) to give it a kick but you have to be very careful. It's not suggested.
      My mom has darker hair and it's hard to lift to a pale yellow. I have to add a bit of heat at the end and leave it on longer. Her hair takes it well.
      You could always do a test strand. If you're comfortable with cutting a small piece from the back to test it, that would be your safest bet.

      What's your natural hair colour, Edgar? Let's start from the beginning and I can help guide you. For now, I can say that generally toner can be used all over, so you can take the cap off and then tone.

    Is it safe to leave the bleach on for an hour? Blondme is a strong bleach. I have level 4 natural hair and was wondering to get to a level 10. I did a strand test and 1 hour left it orange

    • @JulieMeikle
      @JulieMeikle  11 місяців тому

      It all depends on the health of your hair. Is it fine? Is it damaged? Are you lightening natural hair or has it been previously coloured? Was it fully saturated with bleach?
      I have left it on longer on my mother but she has very strong hair and that's how it's always been. I didn't overlap onto her previously lightened hair and it was fully saturated.
      It's great you did a test strand. What level do you feel you got to? A level 4 is hard to get to a pale yellow. That's where toners come in. What volume did you use?

    • @TheQShow53
      @TheQShow53 11 місяців тому

      Thank you for your response. It’s a natural level 4 no previous dye. It was still so orange I did 1:2 ratio. I completely covered the strand. Maybe I should leave it longer than an hour, or what do you recommend? My hair is fine texture

      I know this is late but the developer you use is also important. 20 vol will lift up to 3/4 levels and 30 vol will lift 5/6 levels.

    • @JulieMeikle
      @JulieMeikle  9 місяців тому

      @@TheQShow53 I just saw Joanna's reply and it showed me that I didn't reply to you. How is the health of your hair now that it's orange? Leaving it for more time isn't necessarily the best. You could do it in stages. give your hair treatments, make sure it's in good shape. Check the elasticity of it and porosity and try again.
      But I would try to lighten a test strand first. See how your strand handles being bleached again before you do the whole head.

      It is, Nicole. I'm starting at a natural level 7 which is already considered to be a light blonde (ginger). It's already naturally light so it's definitely easier to lift than someone who's darker. I also don't mind it having a little gold. I used to have a hairstylist that would use a toner to neutralize the warmth but it made my hair look dull and I couldn't wait until the toner would wash out. The shampoo works to brighten it but not make it look too cool.🤗

      Not in my case. I'm starting off with a natural level 7 and my goal is to have a highlight with a touch of gold so a wash with purple shampoo is good for me. It lightens to the colour I like. I used to go to a great colourist and he would use a toner that would cut the warmth. I liked it better when it washed out.

    After washing off the bleach, what happens next?

    • @JulieMeikle
      @JulieMeikle  Рік тому

      So typically you would tone it after the bleach is rinsed off. My hair is naturally pretty light. It's a natural level 7 ginger, so when I bleach it, it will lighten to a pale yellow.
      On my hair, a pale yellow suits my colouring because I'm a ginger anyway. I wash it with a purple shampoo and that will tone it enough for me.
      If you're a darker colour and have a hard time reaching the pale yellow stage (inside of a banana colour) than toner would be necessary.
      What's your natural colour?
