    If I didn't know any better I'd say this was deliberate sabotage. "Alright, so... You're gonna adapt 6 movies into a 10 hour video game. The movies all have clashing themes so in one mission it'll be realistic and in the next you're gonna be in space wearing rubber suits and shooting lasers. Oh and you only have 2 years or you're fired, so I think it's time you rethink this whole 'sleeping' nonsense"

    It could have been interesting if they'd done episodic missions in the style of a Hitman game and allowed you to choose between Bonds, each of which would have different skills, abilities, and equipment. It would have been cool to be able to take Daniel Craig Bond into Goldfinger, or see how Roger Moore would fare against Silva.

      My guess is that's what IO will do with their Bond game. They have stated that their Bond is not going to be based on any of the actors and my guess it's going to feature original levels (with missions from the movies going to be DLC). But it wouldn't surprise me if the way to approach levels is going to be based on the various Bond eras. So relying on lots of gadgets will be like the Moore era, being more sneaky is going to be Connery based and so on.

    At first, the idea seems kinda cool to have Bond see memories of the past as his prior film's... Then you think about the premise, and it quickly falls apart, since they didn't get creative with it, and had no budget for said creativity, it becomes the exact opposite of a "Legend".

      @gentlemangamer7783 2 роки тому +41

      If they removed the necessity of linking everything together they could've easily made it an anthology series. For example the previous 007 is now retired so a new agent is chosen and they look back at all the other 007 missions to understand the role. So the player would be able to enjoy all the previous movies in game form without the baggage of having to stitch them together to fit the plot of a singular story.

    I'll be honest - personally, I *loved* the "best of Bond" concept in Legends, and the idea of just adapting the biggest setpieces from a film from each actor's tenure. A full Goldfinger or Moonraker standalone game wouldn't work - but taking the action setpieces from them and bundling them in a package? The narrative's free (as in the films) to take a back seat to the action. Die Another Day feels *designed* for a game like that!
    I truly believe it was the punishing release window that threw Legends, as opposed to the "plot". Goldeneye 2010 was a brilliant game, because Eurocom had the time to get it right. Given the same freedom on Legends, I think it could've been something special. Alas...

The core gameplay itself is shallow and repetitive but the story, characters, music, spectacle, etc make up for it in my opinion (kinda like how the 1st Last of Us is a mediocre game with a great story), but because of Capcom's bullshit it'll forever go down in history as that game that tries to make you pay to see the real ending. The problem with Bond games is that Goldeneye is a name held up alongside the greatest FPS's in history. It's almost impossible to hit that lofty ceiling again (I'm aware Goldeneye has aged but the memory of how good it was at the time is still powerful).
    It was a rare time for Bond games (excuse the pun). The recent films also don't really lend themselves to a video-game format since they went with slower more realistic plots.
    Still, always interested in a Bond game!

    • @LordArikado
      @LordArikado Рік тому

      It's a similar problem that the From Russia With Love game had. The movie it's based on is mostly espionage with one big action scene at the end, which doesn't make for a marketable video game, so they had to include a ton of brand new sequences and even incorporate elements and gadgets from Goldfinger and Thunderball just to make a more exciting game. Well, that, and the fact that the Thunderball/Spectre rights were still being fought over, so they had to rename the evil organization Bond was fighting against to "The Octopus".

    Let's not forget that Craig's run as Bond was supposed to be a prequel series, so he couldn't have flashbacks to events that he hadn't experienced yet. Also the creator has accepted and confirmed fan canon that each actor played a different "James Bond," meaning that Craig's Bond in this game would be having flashbacks *to the future* of *other people's memories* !!!
    Oh, and f--- ActiBlizzard.

    This was the biggest letdown as a Bond fan in terms for video games. With the 2000s being a good mix of titles and Goldeneye 2010 being pretty decent, it was such a shame to have a title with so much going for it to fall flat.

      Same. It was most definitely a development hell issue based on the dev team's previous work (FNAF: Help Wanted; the VR title).
      Scott Cawthon stepping away from the franchise in the middle of development couldn't have helped matters. Also, based on the release date (Dec 📅), the publisher clearly fell into the death trap of "force the dev team to crank the game out before the holidays; quality control be damned".
      Word in hacker circles is that literal **GIGATONS** of content was left on the cutting room floor for Steel Wool to make the release date forced on them. Would explain why the game feels patched together...and only 1 of the 6 endings has an actual cutscene.

    honestly, the concept of 6 films in one game feels like high risk, high reward. in concept or as a fan, it could come off as fun and engaging, but threading all those missions is just a mess. If only they did more to make each level feel different, it could’ve possibly been ok.

    What this game should’ve been was a celebration of all the bond movies. Each movie could’ve been a scenario in the game and each featuring that specific bond from the movie the stage is based off of. This could’ve been the No Way Home of 007 games where all of it culminates into a stage or whatever where they’re all working together or something. And the box art could’ve featured all 6 bonds like in a Dissidia: final fantasy or kingdom hearts game where the characters are front and center. Maybe one day 🤷‍♂️

    I remember trying this game ONCE on the WiiU, and couldn't even get past the first scene, because I had no clue what to do. I was stuck in that bedroom, staring at Jill Masterson's gold-painted corpse for a solid 20 minutes, with no clue on how to proceed. There's a good chance that it was glitched, and I was stuck. Doesn't sound like I missed out on much of anything, though, from what I've heard on the rest of the game.

    As a gigantic Bond fan who loved the Goldeneye remake, I was looking forward to this when it came out. However, once the abysmal reviews came out I decided to just forget about it. But a few years later I picked up the Wii U version for less than $20 on Amazon and...five minutes into the first level I realized the reviewers were absolutely right. I couldn't understand how a game that was by the same developers and used the same game engine as the actually really good Goldeneye remake could be such an absolute disaster. I slogged my way through the whole game but enjoyed pretty much none of it (the Moonraker levels aren't bad tho tbh, but certainly not worth playing through four other movies to experience).

    I’d like to suggest Halo 5 as an episode. It’s very clear that there’s a massive difference in the ad campaign for “hunt the truth” and the campaign we got in the end, and I’m guessing there’s some behind the scenes reasons for it and why the campaign was very lacklustre.
