    From MJ's own words- Moonwalk: "My father was real strict with us - real strict. … Dad would make me so mad and hurt that I’d try to get back at him and get beaten all the more. I’d take a shoe and throw it at him, or I’d just fight back, swinging my fists. That’s why I got it more than all my brothers combined. I would fight back and my father would kill me, just tear me up.”

    Jermaine better singer than Michael?? For real?? Funny how Michael made and sold all those records and Jermaine trailed behind with his solo career....

  • @The_torero

    He still could have handled things differently. Michael said he'd make them rehearse with a belt in his hand, ready to tear them up if they missed a step. Im sure he still could have yielded the same results without causing psychological scars, which Michael did indeed have.

    He beat his children exactly the way he explained the beatings during slavery. His kids were not misbehaving but just beaten up because he wanted perfection in performing and enforced it. He should have been jailed for child abuse. God knows what else he did to those kids..... Wouldn't be surprised if he swore them to secrecy never to tell a soul because even as adults you can still see the fear in their eyes at the mention of his name. Hopefully it's red blood that runs through his veins and not green.

    Great interview. Joe was just like my dad. Hard, stern, loving but didnt show it. But u grew up on the straight and narrow. Joe's and my dad's generation were like that. Is he perfect? No. But raising 9 kids in gary,indiana, most of them boys and none of them in jail, gangs etc..My hats off to him.

    Speaking as a father, with one son, i'm listening very carefully to what he is saying as far as raising his kids. The media has people believing one thing, but the proof is in the pudding. Joe Jackson raised nine kids, who all turned out well. None of them criminals and one of them was Michael Jackson. Mike may complain, but without his dad, he wouldn't have been The Michael Jackson. Boys need to be raised by a man, just for the physical aspect. Moms can't sustain a boy's inevitable strength for long. One of my buddies on facebook told me when I was a kid, I'd tell my mother 'hit me, it doesn't hurt, while he ran.' I never knew I said that to my mother as a child, but I had a stepfather who matched me muscle for muscle. Joe was a good father and had an impeccable eye for talent...Michael was just the whiny kid, never mentioning or making people notice how important a role his father playing in his life. That was the only part I didn't like about him. He did sing a song called 'To Make My Father Proud.'

      There is a speech Michael gave @Oxford University,where he expressed his Love for his Father..and he forgave him.and he also expressed how much of a genius he was..so look that up..Michael was Human and a child and probably didn't understand the tough love thing,,but he did get it..

    • @MrJacksonvill
      @MrJacksonvill 10 років тому +2

      Lizzie Allen Wow you are very strong opinionated about Mr.Jackson..which you probably have the right to be..nobody wants tolerate the disclipline of children.I grew up also getting spankings..It made me resent my Dad as well..found him to be mean and insensitive..but my scenario was different to Michael's and his Brothers..but the way you just put that sounds not only harsh,but True.I hope we can be that astute with our own lives. In the end Michael became a major force in music. He probably wanted to be Loved so much,he dedicated himself to become one of the Greatest Entertainer's in the World. The others definately been affected,but alot alos forgave Joe..they understood his goal..but then again I know there is alot of personal struggle they all have with Joe..Michael was the most vocal..May his Soul Rest In Peace. I miss his physical presence in the world.

      @cappuccinolover3754 10 років тому

      that's a little harsh don't you think. okay yes Michael was a bit whiner and yes he still whined about not having a childhood and all the abuse her suffered by his father's hand. yes he whines a lot but some children just do not respond well to that time of love or discipline if you want to call it. What Joe did wrong was not allowing those children to love him the way a child is suppose to love his or her father and that was a huge sacrifice. Joesph doesn't know how to express love; maybe his parents never loved him. but do keep in mind that Michael did say that he forgives his father and he also credited him for his success.

    • @deesplayworldtv
      @deesplayworldtv 10 років тому +1

      Afiong Bassey with no Joe Jackson, no Thriller. with some kids, strong discipline is necessary. Spare the rod, spoil the child. And I'm sure in those times, discipline was much harsher than today's time. Had Michael not let us into his private world, I would have no complaints because his music was flawless. The only thing I may have not liked about him was how much he harped on how mean his dad was. But his personality is not that much of a tough guy. He seems more soft spoken like his mom, well to us he seems that way, cause I heard some phone calls and he didn't sound all "Heal The World-y" lol

    • @MrJacksonvill
      @MrJacksonvill 10 років тому +2

      dejuanptv I think alot of how Michael portrayed his Father was probably from his own perspective..because the rest of his siblings don't think so bad about Joe..Janet doe s though..she has expressed in interviews on how she's not so close to him.Did you see how touched Joe was about his son's passing..Michael at the latter part of his life was forgiving of
      his Dad. Listen to his Oxford Speech from 2001 ..he brings Joe in an ineresting positive Light..which I felt was well deserving.

    i won't judge you Joe. I know raising 9 kids wasn't easy. But it feels good to know you raised kids that grew up upright and made good music. If Michael found the peace he badly needed in death, then may he rest well. As a fan it just hurts to know he's gone for good. But then again his legacy will definitely outlast the negative headlines of the press.

    The ends don't justify the means. He beat his kids because they missed a step or two during their rehearsals. Why there are people who defends this guy is beyond me. Michael might have been a man who made his own choices later in life, but this man is partly responsible for the way he turned out, that being a very damaged man.

  • @NorthernGirl85

    I think MJ was essentially a kid in his soul, he was way too sensitive from the start, but complaining about his childhood was a nice way to continue being childish, so he used that, covering his 'immaturity' in many ways and aspects of human life. Even if Joe didn't exercise strict discipline, MJ would have grown into a young man with the same traits of character, if maybe a little less accentuated. He looks like a very happy kid on his childhood pics. And some sad ones just show that he was a very serious and mature child, a little grown-up, I don't think it has anything to do with the beatings. He was just lost in his own world.

      Mike Adams you fucking idiot 1. Janet is a girl anyone who knows anything about kids knows you don't need to discipline girls as much and 2. Michael said it himself he didn't ge it that bad. What fools like you fail to realise is that with this man there would be no mj and the fact that mj uses his father's treatment of as an excuse to do nonsense. When mj needed someone most in his darkest hours who was there for him? His family particular his father and how did mj repay them? By making them book appointments to see him. If your smart you'll see how that reflects on your mj and how he was a piece of work for how he treated his family

      Latoya said the sexual abuse was a lie that she was forced to tell by her then abusive and controlling husband and manager to tell those lies to the public. Joe hitting his kids was true, but that was a normal thing to do back then....leaving marks/bruises and all. People MINDED THEIR OWN BUSINESS back then. Even tho his kids didn't think it was right, that was something a lot of parents did back then. It may not be acceptable NOW, but that's still ur choice u can make. I know where i'm from, as long as you don't leave any marks on your child then they don't consider that abuse. I think the jackson kids are the way they are because they worked like adults at their very young age. That is what messed them up, not having a childhood. I don't think Joe is evil for spanking his kids, but there are things i don't agree with ...such as him having his children call him JOE and not dad. like wtf? But i agree, if Joe hadn't worked those kids so hard, there would be no MJ or Janet, nor the rest of them. They all have him to thank for any success.

    I can tell Joseph loved his kids, he was deeply misunderstood, I don't agree with all the ways he went about ensuring his kids' success but he got them where they needed to be. I think he mirrored what was done to him as a child because that was all he knew, he didn't know that doing the opposite (being loving) could be just as affective, a lot of ppl in those days didn't. But look at the way he lights up when the interviewer quotes what MIchael said about him. He has feelings too.

    My grandparents were from the South. Back then, many black ppl grew up poor, neglected and badly abused. My grandparents had awful stories, and Joe is from that era --- only about two generations out of slavery. When you come from that, you have strange ideas. Joe did the best he could, and in his later years, he's probably learned some things; however, we all must be responsible for our life decisions as adults and there is no one to blame for Michael's ultimate demise ... but Michael.

    Joe Jackson does make a great point about Michael not having a childhood. Growing up in city like Gary with all of it's crime and poverty, it would've been pretty easy for the Jackson kids to get in trouble. Everybody who says Joe is a bad father think about this: the reason why so many kids come up in the "system" is because they didn't have that discipline growing up. And of course, without Joe Jackson there is no Jackson 5, there is no Motown, there is no Off the Wall and NO THRILLER!

Yeah, he was rough, yeah, everybody got it from him, but he had so many black kids to take care of, they were not particularly rich, you know, and yet no one got involved in a crime or started taking drugs, etc. And how the hell could Joe know that he had a genius in the family? Or he should have just praised Michael and kick everybody else's arses? That way Michael would have grown to be a brat, would have wasted his talent.

    Say what you want about Joe Jackson. He took responsibility for ALL of his boys. None of them grew up to be deadbeat fathers or thugs. They are ALL good kids.
    Kinda makes you think about the old saying: "spare the rod, spoil the child" Joe and Katherine did the best they could. Like most parents back in the 60's and 70's, they raised their kids the only way they knew how.

    He might of been a strict father, but he made all the Jacksons what they r today, he really made them into great artists.........

    I like Joe by the way, alwayz have, Michael didn,t always show love to Joe but i know he damn sure appreciated what he done for the Jackson family, a man with no formal training in management but still guided his nine children all to super stardom & of the tough streets of Gary, no wonder Michael calls him a genius.

    If I am asked, "Do you believe Joseph Jackson physically abused his children?" I answer yes, based on Michael's own recollections and those of his siblings. However, Michael also forgave his father & continued trying to forge a better relationship with him through love and understanding. Listen to Michael's Oxford speech. Forgiveness is a key to greater love and something we all want.💗

    He truly was a genius. Unfortunately most people dont understand that. He overcame great odds in taking his entire family from nothing to what they became. God bless him.

    people always say joe doesn't care that michael died, he didn't even seem sad at all. in my opinion, joseph just does not know how to handle his feelings. he showed his love by making sure his boys would make it in the world. just watch starting at 3:23- he is fighting back tears! i don't necessarily agree with his methods, but i understand that's what he knew.

    Thank you, Michael even mentioned forgiveness in his speech at a children's day celebration in 2001 or 02. He stted that he did not want his children to harbor ill feeling towards him b/c of something he did that he thought was for their well being.He talk about where and the time period his father grew up and how this made him have a tough exterior. I truly believe if Michael knew he was going to die soon. His WILL would have been totally different.

    People are too quick to judge Joe Jackson. We've all heard the stories of abuse, etc., but it seemed that over the past few years, Michael reconciled with his Dad. We can't pretend to know how Michael felt about him. It's very disrespectful to condemn Joe as an evil person. Watch this interview, and toward the end you will be able to see that he truly did love Michael.

    Joe does have a good point too. he didnt want his kids running around with other kids and learning bad habits and bad things from them. He made sure they all had a good head on their shoulders and played with eachother. but then he shouldnt have beaten them so badly..
    MJ is soo cute i love him!

    Great video. Very insightful. He loved his son; some people are just hardened by life and the old school way of being brought up. Joe Jackson is one of them. But LMAO at him saying that the kid was MJs son. Did he not realize what the interviewer was asking him? Maybe he thought they were talking about Blanket. haha

    People do make mistakes. He didn't understand that Michael didn't need any tough discipline, he was a tender heart and just needed love. they got closer in the last years and things cleared up between them, expecially during the trial. The man is now old and cryes when he remembers his son. Michael forgave him. Let's do the same.

    totally agree. People don't realize that times were harder back then, which made the fathers themselves, harder. I think that MJ was just very sensitive....you don't hear any of the others complaining about abuse. Joe just did what he felt was right, and every parent isn't perfect. RIP MJ

    I just feel that no one has the right to speak bad about Michael's family. Even if Mike chose to do so at times, that's his family and his business. I can say something out of anger or spite about my family if I want to....but I'll be damn if someone else does it! You can be a fan of Michael's w/o having negative things to say about his family, cuz at the end of the day...YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. PERIOD.
