I am English have no connection what so ever, but I listen to Maori song most every day ,it is magical and totally uplifting for my spirit and soul l can even imagine how Maori feel when singing l have never seen a face with out a smile , absolutely uplifting thank you very much for sharing your song with the world
Awesome bro, first time coming across this performance was great to watch reminded me of my childhood, my mum always walked around the house singing this song and I just had a memorie of her so I thought I would look for this song on UA-cam to dowoad for my playlist 😄🙂🙂
I remember watching on TV in the 80s one big celebration for the exhibition Te Maori 💗 the return of many taonga tupuna from the states. This particular song was known by us waikato people for that significant time in history. Uenuku was returned alive and healthy and will forever be. Kia ora Kahungunu!!!!
Tangi a te ruru Kei te hokihoki mai e E whakawherowhero i te pūtahitanga Nāku nei rā koe I tuku kia haere Tēra puritia iho Nui rawa te aroha e Te hokinga mai tēna koutou Tangi ana te ngākau i te aroha Tu tonu rā te mana te ihi O ngā tupuna kua wehe atu rā Mauria mai Te Mauri Tangata Hei oranga mo te mōrehu Tangi mōkai nei E rapu ana i te ara tika Mō tātou kātoa Te hokinga mai tēna koutou Tangi ana te ngākau i te aroha Tu tonu rā te mana te ihi O ngā tupuna kua wehe atu rā Mauria mai Te Mauri Tangata Hei oranga mo te mōrehu Tangi mōkai nei E rapu ana i te ara tika Mō tātou kātoa E rapu ana i te ara tika Mō tātou kātoa Te hokinga mai Tū tangata

Tangi a te ruru
Kei te hokihoki mai e
E whakawherowhero i te pūtahitanga
Nāku nei rā koe
I tuku kia haere
Tēra puritia iho
Nui rawa te aroha e
Te hokinga mai tēna koutou
Tangi ana te ngākau i te aroha
Tu tonu rā te mana te ihi
O ngā tupuna kua wehe atu rā
Mauria mai
Te Mauri
Tangata
Hei oranga mo te mōrehu
Tangi mōkai nei
E rapu ana i te ara tika
Mō tātou kātoa
Te hokinga mai tēna koutou
Tangi ana te ngākau i te aroha
Tu tonu rā te mana te ihi
O ngā tupuna kua wehe atu rā
Mauria mai
Te Mauri
Tangata
Hei oranga mo te mōrehu
Tangi mōkai nei
E rapu ana i te ara tika
Mō tātou kātoa
E rapu ana i te ara tika
Mō tātou kātoa
Te hokinga mai
Tū tangata
