- Join me for a walk around one of Britain's largest, fastest-growing and most energetic cities of all: Leeds! Home to five universities, at least 800,000 people, and an array of imposing architecture dating from its industrial boom, this Yorkshire hub is full of endless things to do and discover - just a small portion of which we'll cover on this walk!
On our walk around Leeds, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Leeds Town Hall, Millennium Square, Leeds Civic Hall, Leeds City Museum (former Mechanics' Institute), Leeds Cathedral, Nicola Adams' golden postboxes, Leeds War Memorial, site of the Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2014, The Headrow, Dortmund Square, former Lewis' Department Store, Briggate, City Varieties Music Hall, Victoria Leeds, Kirkgate Market, Leeds Minster, the River Aire, Leeds Assembly Rooms, Leeds Corn Exchange, Trinity Leeds and the statue of Minerva, Holy Trinity Church, the former Griffin Hotel, The Queens Hotel, City Square, former General Post Office, statue of The Black Prince, Park Row, The Pétanque Player, Greek Street, The Headrow and Leeds Town Hall once again.

Happy New Year! And welcome to a video that I've been looking forward to for a long time, a place where I once used to live: the great city of Leeds :)
A spectacular city with as lively an atmosphere as anywhere, Leeds may not have the medieval charm of many Yorkshire destinations, but it more than makes up for that with spectacular industrial-era architecture, and so many things to see and do that you'll never be bored. On this 44-minute walk, we just about scratch the surface, but there's so much more to Leeds, from its legendary football team to its history of mining, milling and armouries!
EH BEN TU PARLES D'UNE VISITE CHARLES !.. GIGANTESQUE DANTESQUE CITÉ À L'ARCHITECTURE SUPERBEMENT ÉPOUSTOUFLANTE DANS TOUS LES STYLES !.. OH LES VERRIÈRES DES ARCADES SONT MAGNIFIQUES AINSI QUE LES MONUMENTS RELIGIEUX !.. SUPER MERCI LET'S WALK POUR LA NARRATION HYPER PASSIONNANTE !.. TOUT LE MEILLEUR DE LA VIE POUR L'ANNÉE NOUVELLE ET SURTOUT UNE SANTÉ DE FER !.. BON LUNDI !..
I think Leeds is the best and most beautiful city in the UK
I'm from Yorkshire & I'm still learning stuff! Thank you for pleasant & informative tour ❤
Being an ancient ex-Yorkshire person who left UK with his parents in 1952 I have to say that I am completely in love with all things Yorkshire.
The UK's most underrated large city.
WOW, what a truly fascinating walk.
My mum was born in Castleford and as a teenager cycled to work in Leeds so as youngsters we visited often as it was only half an hour by train from Huddersfield where her familay had moved to in the 1930's, a visit to the toy department at the Lewis store was the highlight.
In 1954 I lost a leg in a road accident, my fault, so had to go to the Limb fitting centre at Chapel Allerton, in the Suez crisis in 1956 we were asked to make our own way there to save ambulance petrol.
My retired granddad would take me on the train and tram for prosthetic repairs, as a lively youngster over the years there were many, and alterations as I grew.
If we finished early we would have lunch at Winsor’s (sp) restaurant and visit the covered market.
In the late 1990’s early 2000’s as a subscriber to the uk.local.yorkshire usenet group we had many pub crawls round Leeds, many of them that are a blur.
I’ve not wandered round the centre for 20 years and your video was a bit of a shock as so much has changed.
Thanks again, keep up the good work.
Wow! That's a fascinating story of Leeds and the surrounding area wonderfully told! I'm sorry to hear about the leg back in the day, though it certainly hasn't slowed you down over the years! As you mention there are so many things to see and do in Leeds and your many visits with family and friends, for whatever reason, show that it's always been a city that brings people back again and again, especially for shopping and those legendary pub crawls :)
Things are certainly changing fast in Leeds as the city continues to swell - it may not even be recognisable to me in a few years' time either!
Thank you so much for watching and for that wonderful comment - it's always brilliant to hear people's stories about the towns and cities we visit on the channel!
Leeds is a lovely vibrant place where you can shop shop shop till you drop !!
if you got money that is!
for a lot of Leeds people shop shop shop is not a reality-
@@trippy1198think you’ll find it’s not just leeds where spending large amounts of money isn’t a reality
I love Leeds West Yorkshire is a beautiful place, people should come and visit. Not just Leeds but also the beautiful surrounding areas.
Hi, Awesome live walk in the city of Leeds England. I enjoyed it. Hope to see more soon. Very beautiful and historical the city of Leeds is. Your history lessons are always great. And your walks are always enjoyable. Have a great day 😀 happy new year. 😀
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Leeds is a thoroughly impressive city full of captivating history :)
Thanks for the memories. A friend and I went to Leeds back in 2014, but we didn't see as much of it as you did on this walk. I remember the city museum, which was very interesting, and we had lunch in an old bank that had been converted into a Wetherspoon's.
The blue plaque at 22.45 records the building where Michael Marks met Tom Spencer, and we all know what happened after that.
Born and bred in Leeds but after moving away in 1988 I haven't been back since, sadly. As for the Queen's Hotel I have great memories of Friday lunches with the carvery there in the 80's. Thanks for the memories even if I hardly recognise the city now.
The city is beautiful! We also made a video showing around the city, there is a lot to see. Thanks for the video!
Really top notch. I have to say Leeds has much improved since I studied there in the 80s. Beautiful Victorian architecture.
Yeh, we put the beautiful Victorian architecture up in the 90s
Silly boy
Being an 80yr. old born and bred Loiner, I have a long lasting interest in Leeds' 18th and 19th Century history. Many of Leeds' historic streets had names related to either where they were, or why they were there. But for me, a puzzle is The Headrow. Why? is because it started life as two streets: Upperhead Row, and Lowerhead Row. Exactly where each joined, I don't know, but Lowerhead Row ended at Vicar Lane ... there wasn't an Eastgate up until 1932. I've always wondered what was originally meant by the 'Head' in Headrow. Incidentally, by population at 1.4 million, Leeds is the fourth largest city in the UK after London, Manchester, and Birmingham.
Wonderful walk around Leeds! Really enjoyed your video 😁 this is one of my favourite cities in England, it was also great to learn some really interesting historic facts! Thank you! 👏😄
This seems to be a very charming place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
