Leave your American expectations out and,watch it as a fictional movie ,pure entertainment . I think this was the first film to use these much cgi effects at that time. They are supposed to contribute to the story or move the story forward so quite often the actors will be emoting based on the situation that song is supposed to depict. I haven't watched this movie but my experience of Indian movies says that Aishwarya is probably emoting as per what's required of her character in this situation.
