Great information. I'll be getting a MitraClip here in about three weeks. I had OHS for a mechanical aortic valve in January of 2023. After a severe bout of pneumonia earlier this year I got better over a short period of time and then my shortness of breath, among other symptoms, got worse and worse. It was discovered that I had a flail mitral leaflet. Due to recent pneumonia, being completely deconditioned, the recent sternotomy, a pectus deformity and complications with HIT (heparin induced thrombocytopenia) it was decided by a great team of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and the interventional cardiologists that I'm a fairly high risk for another OHS right now. The doctor said I have excellent anatomy for a clip and is extremely confident in a positive outcome. Here is hoping to a long term solution, and if not, it will allow me to prolong another invasive operation and allow some time to lower my risk for surgery.

@@PedroGonzalez-me1qb Had the clip put it on 11/7. It took about two hours and I was up walking around the hospital that evening. My family said I looked better immediately and had my color back. Symptoms and fluid retention were pretty much gone the next day. I stayed one night in the hospital and flew home a couple days later. I'm less that two weeks out from the procedure and I feel the absolute best I have in 8 months. I walked 10,000 steps today and did some light weights this evening. I am absolutely amazed at how speedy the recovery has been.

@@PedroGonzalez-me1qb I had the clip placed on 11/7. The procedure took about 2 hours and I felt great once I woke up. My family said my color was back and I looked better. I stayed in the hospital one night and flew home a couple days later. I'm not even two weeks out from the repair and I feel amazing. Back on my stationary bike, doing long walks and lifting weights. The change is symptoms was immediate and I feel like my old self again. Having my energy back and that first night of solid sleep for the first time in 8 months was incredible. Let me know if you have any specific questions!

I am 67 and active.I have a mild to moderate mitral valve leak- most likely genetic. My father died of congestive heart failure at 63, and his brother and mother also died of heart disease.
I am not thrilled with waiting for the valve to fail and doing a replacement- if I could do a repair and solve the problem. Is this a possibility- and does a repair last "forever" and should I start the process of setting a repair up- with testing, etc?

Hi Linda, Great question. Unfortunately, we can not provide medical advice as we are a patient advocacy group. That said, we would encourage you to speak with your cardiologist to get actionable information about your next steps. Sorry we can't be of more help on this one!
