Ryan, I really appreciate your videos. In this COVID lock-down winter, all I can focus on is getting out there to fish. I am contemplating putting an electric trolling motor on my kayak and am targeting some new approaches on Pymatuning, Lake Arthur, Glendale, and Cross Creek County Park (near home for me). Thanks for your detailed advice. Into my seventh decade, I am still learning. Peace, brother.
That’s awesome , thank you so much for the comment, I really appreciate it! I understand the Covid lockdown fishing mentality , that’s the only thing getting me through my work week. I have so much content to put out and just haven’t had time, hopefully I can get some extra motivation soon and put some decent videos out for you guys!
Wow...just what I needed after no fish on Pymatuning this past weekend. Was fishing for bass and no idea where to go so we looked for cover, mainly lily pads, but no bites. However, I learned a lot about this lake and will try different area now that I see the bigger picture and maybe try fishing catfish. Thanks!
The Hp restrictions bum me out. I suppose there are enough ramps and with today’s batteries if you plan you route the trolling motor can be effective. Thanks Ryan good work.
Awesome break down of Pymatuning lake. You hit on all the major spots of the lake. I fish in and around stocker island. I live just up from Snodgrass launch. There is a real shallow point just south of that launch that produce just about any if the species. I just picked up a nice eye there fishing for channel cats. I posted a short video of it. Hey liked your channel watched the video in full and subscribed to your channel and hit the like button and notification bell. I will be checking out more videos.
Hey man thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it! I think I know where your talking about , and that’s awesome about the walleye! I’ll have to check out your channel man! Thanks for the sub! I appreciate the local support! I’ll return the favor!!!
Great video! I wish I could find one of these for every lake I fish! So me and a buddy fished there the spring of 2019, launching out of the Jamestown boat ramp and fishing down south all around ackerman island and a lot of the coves on the west side of the lake (down south). We did o.k., catching maybe 10 bass apiece each day (all on top water, whopper ploppers), but nothing to write home about. We are headed up the first weekend of October and i'm wondering if you have any tips for for areas and techniques for this time of year. I don't usually go out of my home waters this late in the season, but with this covid stuff, I haven't been able to take my normal summer trips. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and keep the video's coming!!
Excellent video. Would love to see someone put something like this together for Mosquito lake which is another great Walleye/crappie/bass lake in the area
Going on the 4th for free fishing day!! Hoping to get a few good fish to eat. Only have one rod, no tackle, don't even know how to rig it. But we want to learn! Only have ocean fishing experience, and not a lot.
I haven’t no , i sorta fell off the wagon with UA-cam videos , but at some point i will get some time to start doing breakdowns again. Hopefully breakdown while I’m on the water.
Yes it is very much soooo!!! I have caught more catfish out of there than one would think and oh by the way, they love the 4 inch grandma minnow baits for some reason!
That’s so awesome! I’m glad it helped! The idea is to put these out and help people learn about the lakes, the best way for people to learn how awesome muskies are is to catch them, which I’m hoping leads to conservation and more muskies and a better fishery! Thanks for watching and I’m thankful for the feedback and the fact that this helped produce a fish!
So I started fishing pymatuning maybe 4 or 5 years ago. In the first 3 years of fishing it june july and August I caught over 400 channel catfish. Its ridiculous so underappreciated. I can also confirm flatheads are in the lake. I've only ever got 1 though.
This is very good! Appreciate it. I am heading there with the family for a week long vacation next week. Summer fishing can be tough, any tips for this lake for mid July fishing?
Summer fishing is tough, fish move deeper, I would focus on main lake points and vertical jig. I did alright on the perch and crappie last year off of lake points in deeper water, using harnesses and worms. Wind drift drops off those points may help. Otherwise I find myself beating the shoreline for bluegills lol you can always fish early and late when the fish move back shallow too.
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead Excellent info & thanks! The kids are interested in fishing for some big carp as well. I'm guessing that shouldn't be too difficult. Bread should do the trick for that eh??
Oh yeah man! The bread works really well! That’s awesome, getting the kids involved! Some of my favorite fishing days were carp fishing with me brother and dad!! Sweet deal!
I was out on the lake today. It’s HUGE. I wont have a a lot of time on day trips there to keep switching spots. Is there places you would go to find crappie this time of the year?
Taking my nephew up for the first time were mainly targeting bass and musky we will be staying in linesville is it worth driving boat to upper side of lake or stay down low near dam?
I think the muskies are pretty spread out now so anywhere you find bait is good , bass you can cast timber and weeds up linesville too , I think it’s a search mission at this point , just gotta fish and see what works!
Ryan, I have to tell you bud, I love your videos! I've fished Pymie so many times and never had any success, I know those fish are in there! LOL. I plan on heading to ice fish the lake for the first time this season, focusing on Walleye off of Ackerman (setting up on the edge of the river channel) or the humps just north of Jamestown campground point. (setting tip ups with minnows just off the bottom) Can you recommend any pointers/spots for ice fishing the lake? Thanks!
Patrick Finnegan , hey man thanks for the comment, glad you like the videos! I’m looking to get into ice fishing this season, so I am not real knowledgeable when it comes to setting up. Those fish may setup in the channels though so I’m thinking you got the right idea! Dead sticking minnows or cut bait seems to be solid options and the tip ups should produce fish. I would try to focus on the structure points like humps too. Let me see what I can find, I’ll ask around for you and get back to ya!
There’s quality fish in the lake , I see allot of guys bass fishing the pads in summer , I feel like it’s a great fishery for bass and really for all species! Lots of good timber every where. I’d tell you to spend your time there it’s well worth it...
Hey dude I have a question how much of a pain would it be if you start doing species specific videos on all these likes that you talk about. I know that would be one hell of an endeavor but not all of us like Fishing for those things with sharp teeth. Lol just a thought
Going june 1st on a pontoon to fish all alround. Any tips on best spots for a chance on a musky? I know its the fish of 10,000 cast, but would love to hear your input on time of year and weather currently that may help put me on one.
That’s awesome! It’s really tough for me to pick one spot but I’d stay in the north end of the lake and look for shallow bays next to deep water. Always fish your structure like humps and flooded timber. I usually go with a 6 inch grandmas or Wiley’s 5 1/2. I would fish those shallow bays and maybe the weed edges in the adjacent deeper water. You can always vertical jig too...
Anywhere there is weeds , there’s allot of back coves that are good in the spring , in shallow like 5-8 fow , summer gets tough , sometimes you’ll find them schooled up in deeper water , similar to crappies , fall I think they go shallow again , I don’t ice fish so I’m not sure other than to focus on points,
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead I appreciate the info. I’m heading up tomorrow for perch but am going in blind. I stumbled upon your video looking for some guidance from you tube
I understand walleye fishing in its prime is done during the spring; however, I am taking my son there this weekend and would love to fish for walleye in the Northern section since my friends place is there. Basically, can we find walleye? Awesome video brother, very informative!!
Yeah man, you can still catch them up there they are just deeper. Depending on the thermocline , you may be able to find them suspended. If not try bottom bouncers with harnesses in deeper water. I fished late June last year and we found a few fish in 25ft , but it varies. I think it’s sometimes a chess board trying to figure out where they are at in the deeper water. If you mark fish at 15ft suspended, run your baits at that depth and see, otherwise depending on the thermocline you may need to go off the bottom. So many variables it’s hard to say sometimes...
Oh man tough to say , I’d probably fish the south end , but there are bass up and down , I like the open water bite but it’s sometimes hard to find them out there , may be worth fishing the stumps with vertical jigs and spinnerbaits.
Currently 10 58 right now I'm going out for my first time on a boat trolling pymatuning for walleye at 10am. this video is very helpful. I have no experience on a lake.
Kourtney, there is a good section of 8ft water between those two ramps, I think about half way down there are two little inlets which is about 8ft with good weeds. Also there are a ton of submerged roads there that make good transition lines. Also between west ford and snodgrass there is a nice area with humps that is solid for spring and fall walleye! I used Google Earth, just easier I think to do it that way!
West ford runs into pymatuning around the following longitude and latitude point...41-33-15 North and 80-29-49 West, you can get on google earth and search it and find it! Also thanks for the feedback I appreciate it!! Hope this is helpful!

You have a few options , you can go out to 13-15 feet of water and put on a bottom bouncer with the harness or you can simply put a few split shots on to get the harnesses down, just wind drift and see what happens!
At pymatuning? That’s a good question I would tell you just about anywhere , the spillway is illegal but you may wanna check the regs out and see how close you can fish to it , thats a high percentage area lol other than that there’s Carp all over the lake ...
Brian, Fish right beside the spillway where you are permitted. Use 🍞 bread. If you really want to have fun use an ultralight and set your drag. I used to do it for years up there when I had a camp up there. I miss it😁 Good Luck and happy fishing.👍🏻
Agreed, fish finder and time on the water! Sometimes you just need to take a day and drive around the lake and mark weeds and structure that would hold fish! You can find some resources out there that show you man made structure as well! Pa fish and boat has structure maps online!
Hey Hank, the best lakes that PA has for Small-mouth are Lake Wallenpaupack and Lake Erie. However, i feel as though that the rivers here in PA hold the best numbers and biggest Smallies that you will find. I would mention the Allegheny River, Clarion River, French Creek, Youghiogheny River and the mighty Susquehanna River. I think our state record is 8 lbs and 8 oz. I usually do not target Small-mouth however on occasion i will on days that are few and far between. The biggest Small-mouth that i caught was around 4 lbs, and when i catch them, i usually get them around 1-2 lbs. When we go on vacation to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland, i usually catch more Smallies than anything. I know that some of the waters i mentioned hold 5-8 lb fish and especially Lake Erie. You can get out on Erie and just smack them certain times of the year. Hopefully i answered your question!
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead Thank you so much. I usually visit family up in that area and was thinking about bringing my boat up there. Thanks for all the time you took to answer my question and give me a good idea on where to fish
If you can find the smallmouth in pymatuning they are typically quality fish. Lake Erie is just insane. I live about 45 minute to and hour from pymie and erie, french creek is also an amazing smallmouth fishery. But if you want the giant smallmouth lake erie in April is just absolutely crazy. I had a day last year I caught 9 smallmouth in a few hours between 16 and 19.5 inches long. Off the shore.

PECE Mast3r Race , are you fishing Pymatuning or just looking for a spot in general? I would say that allot of the fish move into weeds this time of year just to try to find heat. But the warmer water temps is where you want to start looking now. I like the north end of the lakes in November because they get warmer quicker.
I'd like for a spot cause were thinking of either fishing on land or on a boat so I'm trying to do all the research I can before I head out with my dad :P

killer fishing with Chris and friends , Ohio has some good lakes for Musky like piedmont and west branch are my favorites, we have to travel most of the time a few hours to get on some fish, it’s allot of fun!

How is the north side of the causeway on the Ohio side for bass
I’ve seen guys piled up on the causeway bass fishing this year! I’d assume there’s fish around it, there usually is!
Ok thank you! I just got a kayak and live in Ohio never fished it always wanted to online said the bass fishing wasn't good so was worried lol
There’s allot of good bass in that lake! Just gotta spend the time out there to find them!
Ok awesome going to get out there Sunday thank you for your time and liked the video!
If you have a Facebook account , send me a friend request and I’ll share a picture of a fish that we caught up there to give you an idea
Where would be a good place to carp fish at
At pymatuning? That’s a good question I would tell you just about anywhere , the spillway is illegal but you may wanna check the regs out and see how close you can fish to it , thats a high percentage area lol other than that there’s Carp all over the lake ...
Brian, Fish right beside the spillway where you are permitted. Use 🍞 bread. If you really want to have fun use an ultralight and set your drag. I used to do it for years up there when I had a camp up there. I miss it😁 Good Luck and happy fishing.👍🏻
here's a question, how do you find good structure and weed beds in a lake
fish finder and time
Agreed, fish finder and time on the water! Sometimes you just need to take a day and drive around the lake and mark weeds and structure that would hold fish! You can find some resources out there that show you man made structure as well! Pa fish and boat has structure maps online!
hey just asking...how big are the smallmouth you catch or your biggest one there?
Hank Howard go to wall mart in Greenville PA you find what your looking for
If you can find the smallmouth in pymatuning they are typically quality fish.
Ryan I want too come fishing with you and Dee.
Let me know when you wanna go!!
Let me know when your going. I don't have rods, Dana stepped on my last on, and it's been since high school since I have gone. I need a licence.
What software are you using with the maps? looks like Google earth but with marine map information.
Google earth ... I placed all those points on the maps using pins.
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead Have you considered sharing your map with the world? Info on doing so here: support.google.com/earth/answer/148150?hl=en
Used to spend a lot of time at Pymatuning as a kid (70's & 80's). Haven't been there in 20 years. Heading out for a week later in the month and your video was helpful. Would love to be able to refer to the map while planning.
Tionesta lake is another good musky lake
Giants in tionesta ...
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead it is a harder lake to fish when you don't fish that lake often i only fished there one time when i was up at camp
What’s up bro I’m going out to Pymatuning tomorrow wanted to see if you’d be interested in meeting up and trying to catch some bass I can rent a boat if you’d be down just let me know
Gotta work tomorrow man but I’d be down at some point!
Hey, I'm trying to go for muskie in about a week here. Any Places that would be good in the fall for them?
PECE Mast3r Race , are you fishing Pymatuning or just looking for a spot in general? I would say that allot of the fish move into weeds this time of year just to try to find heat. But the warmer water temps is where you want to start looking now. I like the north end of the lakes in November because they get warmer quicker.
I'd like for a spot cause were thinking of either fishing on land or on a boat so I'm trying to do all the research I can before I head out with my dad :P
Good video.. but your map is way too dark. Can't see what you are showing.
Never met a guy with my same last name. Hmmm.
Yeah not allot of reads out there! What area are you from my family is from penn township traffotd area!
I am in Akron Ohio. I went on ancestry. Com I seen some people with our last name in PA. I really want to fish pymatuming. I have yet to catch my first musky. Not many around here. The ones around here are not caught often. They are far and few between. Your videos are awesome. Thanks for the tips.
killer fishing with Chris and friends , Ohio has some good lakes for Musky like piedmont and west branch are my favorites, we have to travel most of the time a few hours to get on some fish, it’s allot of fun!
I've lived in Jamestown for 5 yrs n have been living in Linesville for 6 yrs n only know 1/20th of what u have in this video
Allot of research and pulling data from multiple sources. It took me 40+ hours to put that together. Allot of people don’t understand how much time and money and energy go into those videos lol , I appreciate your comment, but it’s all public on the internet, you just gotta find it! My goal is to work hard to consolidate that info into videos like this for guys in PA...
@@FishingPAwithRyanRead yes definitely an awesome video thank you for making it
ghost fog , anytime man, I’m glad it was helpful, I got a bunch more to do, gonna do some smaller lakes but wanted to get the core bigger ones near me done first! I love that area, I camp up there allot and try to hit grandmas when they are around...
