      I mean, we see that now in the game - my head canon is that all current players are 'prospective Citizens' and undergoing a clinical trials with this new and revolutionary REGEN process as test subjects for Bioticorp - massively subsidized by the UEE itself (why else would this literal resurrection service be *FREE* of cost to us? ;)

    Lore is a bit less accessible since CIG's lore team shifted focus so these videos are often the first time I hear of a lot of information. Great watch and always where I direct folks to learn about the Verse o7

    Cool, i like the current health system in SC, but mostly as a baseline, wish it would get more difficult soon. Maybe not for first aid, but getting players to 100% should be more involved, which shoud be the case with limb replacements, reconvalesce and medical beds and respawn requiring resources.

      Since that place is not legal and the last time it was legally operated was before the AutoDoc or Ibrahim Sphere were invented then the question should be, where did they get that tech? The answer is likely not something people want to know.

      @TheAstroHistorian  7 місяців тому

      There are 3 main places to find lore for Star Citizen, Website Lore Posts, Star Citizen Galactapedia, & Jump Point Magazine Articles. Sadly the game itself has minimal lore and mostly supports atmospheric story telling right now but those stories are built using the lore written by the writers over the last 12 years.

    Pretty groovy. I don't like the idea that all corporations are secretly evil and put money before human life. I hope that not every company is going to be portrayed that way.

    I'm not sure if making even the Character Creation something existing entirely in universe was the best idea. It's such a massive can of worms in lore, like why shouldn't people just become exact copies of faction leaders to infiltrate for example? ... On the other hand there are satellites capable of watching your every single movement and even determine if it's within laws or not. Guess it's observated too somehow.
    Beside Grim Hex.

      See, I wouldn't say "nixed" completely; the plan that they've described is as follows (which I've gleaned from Astro summarizing and explaining during several of his Office Hours Q&A streams 😁):
      With REGEN, the Ibrahim sphere is constantly in communication with your character - it is perpetually linked through something akin to 'quantum entanglement' - any change or update in the thought patterns and memories of the source, and the copy is instantaneously updated, regardless of distance. When the connection is severed by the death of the subject, the system 'prints a new body' at the designated location, and that stored memory engram is implanted in it, and then your character wakes up on a medbed in a gown.
      But here's the rub: the copy includes memories of everything the source experienced up to the moment of death when the connection was separated. So the 'copy' remembers DYING. To say that saddles the psyche of the patient with stress and trauma is an understatement. So there's that 'baggage' being carried around by this survivor. And if death and REGEN *keeps* happening, the psychic trauma accumulates, until eventually a REGEN process starts, but the engram is so filled with stress and uncertainty that the new body will not revive - the engram won't 'come back'.
      Thus, in game terms, if you keep dying and regen'ing, your character might reach a breaking point and cannot regenerate; thus 'Death of a Spaceman" happens. Perhaps CIG will have a fixed limit ("like a cat, a Citizen only has 9 lives") or maybe they'll incorporate time limits into the process - maybe if you avoid dying for an amount of time, 'your character undergoes therapy' (presumably while you're logged out - to cope with the ultimate trauma of DYING and then coming back) and you 'get a regeneration back'?
      It's still early days, and we'll all have to wait and see what CIG will eventually go with.

      @@empath69 Thats awesome information to know and makes the whole deal, not a big deal at all but yeah, I can't wait to see how they go forward with that.

    • @laminatedsamurai
      @laminatedsamurai 8 місяців тому

      @empath69 This was roughly the idea as it's been described. Occasionally, the mental trauma will be so great that, during the regen process, the body will simply refuse to develop certain parts that were significantly affected by the last death. Thus, a cybernetic prostheses is used to replace the lost functionality, be it a limb, internal organ, or potentially sensory structure like ear or eye. Prosthetic limbs are DEFINITELY something that is in development, the rest is logically implied, but not explicitly stated.

    • @empath69
      @empath69 8 місяців тому

      @@laminatedsamurai Yeah, that's a factor too, and arising from the same general source - the engram remembers what happened to it; if your character gets an arm lobbed off and staggers around for a while before dying, the regen is going have problems of 'rejection' with the engram remembering losing the arm and on a subconscious level saying "that's not my arm" and in the end, they have to...'modify' the new host body to match how it was, and yeah, you get a prosthetic replacement.
      (speculation on my part, but maybe some test subjects had this happen and went on to have the 'recovered' limb literally go gangrenous as the body failed to properly provide blood flow - the instinct cutting blood flow to what they *know* is a severed limb? Or maybe it just doesn't get proper neurological signals and refuses to function, eventually atrophying on the new body, meanwhile the resurrected mind is trying to cope with the dilemma of 'do I have that arm or don't I?')
      It really has some fascinating potential, and I'm looking forward to what CIG chooses to do when they get to the stage of development where they can address this.

    • @empath69
      @empath69 8 місяців тому +1

      MMO developers have to put 'sinks' into their games to accommodate an excess of a commodity - be it a 'money sink' for the prospect of infinite wealth from endlessly repeatable mission rewards preventing over-saturated currency that would lead to inflation ("a small Big Benny's noodle box is not 347uec; up from 229, last week")...
      ...or a 'life sink' that helps cope with an steadily increasing player base that joins Star Citizen and loads the servers more and more with more characters. The elevators kill off a carefully calculated portion of the active users (CIG will need to hire Actuaries to study the subject and work out what that 'magic ratio' should be ;) ) and thus lighten the server load while those dead characters are busy being regenerated at their last medbed spawn points.
