Well im sure the reason that David waited so long to write a song about Cannabis is due to the amazing changes that is happening regarding legalization in America. As more states are legalizing it, people are realizing that it is not a bad thing. Weed makes people calm and open minded. Polar opposite to the effect of Alcohol which i have had many bad times with. Never had bad highs. Only fun times talking with friends or new people. I love to light it up. And i would love to light it up with David and the rest of the band backstage sometime. I know David would be a great person to talk to while high.
But this is not the message Disturbed needs to put in their songs. They are one of the first bands that brought me into the world of metal. The flow of the song is great but the subject matter is not.
There is nothing wrong with an ancient healing plant. Wake up and get with the times. Chill out and fire one up and learn something. Cannabis is never a bad message. I chose the natural cancer fighting herb over alcohol poison and prescription drugs regardless of corporate advertisements for alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs. Why has no person ever died from Cannabis? Do some research and get back to me. Start by looking up the Endocannabinoid system and CBD. It will expand your horizons. If America could only do what Canada is doing we would be in a way better place. Colorado and Washington are setting the tone. The rest will follow suit. Its about time. One day soon America will get back to farming Hemp again. I would love to buy American Made hemp shirts, shoes, jackets, and books. The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper. Education is not that scary as many would tell you. Take a dip into it and see what happens.
I have my reasons. I do agree with what you are saying. Hemp could be used to bump the United States economy out of the debt that it has collected over the years. I myself live in Washington state. My feelings towards the drug have been the same both before and after its legalization. Hemp as a building material is amazing but marijuana as a recreational drug is stupid. Prescriptions for the drug would help cancer patients reach full health and could have saved my grandfather and great uncle. I understand it's uses. But I get pissed of that it is publicized like it is. There is more important content that musicians could be writing about. Yet it seems like most like to jump on the band wagon of "If the kids are doing it, I write a song about it and I can get more money in my pocket!" That is the only thing that angers me about my own generation. I'm here to make a point. Not to argue. I apologize if I had offended you.
No offense taken. I am a rare type of person that actually enjoys hearing the other side of the argument. Because it is in fact true that anything done in over excess can be bad for you. And that includes Cannabis. I only smoke and vape weed once or twice a day between my gym and park workouts. I am what many people call an active stoner. An athletic stoner. But weed is like my counter balance for the intense workouts i perform every day. So for me, it works great. I dont overuse it. I just have one loaded bowl in the vape or apple pipe and then i feel good. I love making applle pipes. It is very useful. LOL! Have a good day sir or lady.

Disturbed does something different, and people flip their shit. I wonder what they'll think about the love song David wrote for his wife, or the Simon and Garfunkel cover. You're gonna like some songs more than others. There's no way around that. Stop expecting perfection, or you'll never be satisfied.
I am extremely interested in the Sound of Silence cover. They usually kill covers with probably the exception of Midlife Crisis.
As for expecting perfection, I don't think it's about that. It is about not being very creative, lyrically, when compared to past efforts. If the lyrics were a little more creative and cryptic, like past songs, it would be just fine.

The song is very different with sound or vocals, it's the subject matter people are upset with. The subject just isn't dramatic or thought provoking like Disturbed normally is. I personally like the song, but not the subject. I'm sure the love song will be good as well, because that sounds new in a good way. A lot of emotion can be put into that.

Zero Regen It's interesting how people can let a song about a plant with medicinal properties upset them so much, but be perfectly fine with song lyrics about insanity, violence, implied murder & vengeance, and even following someone into the depths of hell to bring them to an end. I agree about the song having a different feel to it, but I still found it enjoyable from a musical perspective - and I don't even smoke weed. I don't fault them for wanting to try something different and have fun with a song.

Draiman heavily supports legalization, but it's not like it's bled into the music before. I enjoy the dramatic lyrics that we get from Disturbed, but this song doesn't have them. You can try something new without resorting to such a drastic change in tone.
I don't see how this is a drastic change... "Meaning of Life" had all of these different means and parts to it. Plus there's "Intoxication." It doesn't matter if you can relate to it. This is Disturbed's song. This is Disturbed at the heart Doing something so different that society just sits there and out casts you. This is just a part of their history of a topic that hasn't been completely visited yet, so give it a chance at least. I don't believe in one listen chances. So hopefully you've given it a couple listen threws. It's different and that's why I love this song.

I bought this album I was so hyped for it... I stopped listening to disturbed because of the loss children album, there were a couple of good songs on there but the sound didn't do it for me. What annoys me about this album and their most recent one is their modern sounds, less heavy hitting guitars and less mad shreds. Most people have a problem with this song because it features the use of weed, I don't smoke it anymore but doesn't mean I can't like it because it can help people... At least it isn't condoning things like heroin and cocaine... Disturbed's music style lyrically and soundwise have changed and not for the best imo. Slipknot have made a similar change in their sound, from vocal style, added different sounds and a that but it still feels like Slipknot.
Obviously bands change some just do it the right way and some struggle...

Cancer Bats (aside from the facts that their new album is butts and the fact that they're incredibly edgy for the sake of being edgy) and Protest the Hero (a very talented band from Canada) have simply shown off more skill and musical knowledge than anyone in Disturbed

Aleksi Taivainen I'm all for the medical uses of weed, but I'm not about to start smoking it daily just because it's legal, and plus this song just really sucks, not because it's about weed, but because the lyrics were really shallow and repetitive. When I listen to Disturbed I want to be able to think about the topic their singing about, but with this song I can't, and for that reason it's a really bad song.
The only way I see this fitting in with the theme of the album is that it's about how the government allows prescription drugs that are beyond crazy for people versus a harmless plant (although weed is proven to kill brain cells).
Either way, I find it quite sad that people need a substance to feel good/calm down. That should be the real talking point here - how the vast majority of people nowadays need a substance to allow them to have a good time.

Actually, people have used substances of the sort since they were first discovered. Weed is simply the least harmful of all modern stress alleviation drugs, including liquor. Such substances don't necessarily increase happiness, as much as they dull stress. Due to the increase in stressful working situations in modern society, the need for such a substance with no side effects has grown immensely.
Furthermore, it is known to stimulate the growth of brain cells far more than it damages them. Weed simply temporarily nums the connections between neurons, instead of inflicting permanent damage like Alcohol does. This is why it's so much safer than other substance abuse.

This is like a strong memory for me! After my Dad died on Cancer 2010 i started to smoke weed for almost 2 years. To overcome old feelings and starting over! Was a hard time for me! I learned to play drums(get the rhytm) and put all my interest into music and arts. And by the way i tested out my body "running" skills. This Album came out exactly that time where my bodily depletion where on the highest level. I really did this to check out Evolution Theory. And rebut all that shopping binge shit. Nine years later i would say it was the right way. The main reason why i stopped weed again was because i saw that the dealer where i got my stuff from where exactly the same who sold heroin etc. too. One day i watched a prositute bying her shit. Totally haggard. The horrible thing in my opinion where not the behavior or the addiction shit. No. The real shivering was how ignorant mankind really is. And almost all laws do nothing against that misery shit. And now it will eat us alive!

As a black man I must commend my favorite metal band, disturbed. This song has such a catchy beat, AND demonstrates the fact that these gentlemen have RHYTHM. Something most (sorry to say) white bands do not have. Not only that, but they just put rap to shame when it comes to talking about weed. In other words, their lyrics actually make sense and actually coincide with the effects of the drug.
