production quality is skyrocketing on this channel, that rhythm reveal with your thumb was HOT
Agreed. And so is the editing + comic timing 👌
Ohhhh thanks so muucchhhhhhhh
I freaking love Ron Minis trio and your work with it
Very cool! Zalow reminds me of Tigran 🤘
Hell yeah !
"when you take a 5 and a 7 and you 'achtush' them together"...
lol
I love that you're looking at the hand with 5 fingers as if it's the odd one out
Awesome pattern - gonna have to check this one out.
I love how Ron refers to "this f---ing guy!" LOL
Love this series so much!
Thanks Yogev for the amazing breakdowns, they are incredible!! King Crimsons Thrak from their double trio in the early 90's where one half of the trio played in 5 and the other trio played in 7. Cool stuff! What still gets me every time is their song Sex, Sleep, Eat, Drink, Dream where they all put down straight 4/4 but then for a drum type chorus Bill Bruford goes off into a 16th note triplet grouped into a 5 swing triplet thingy..... hearing the two snares of different pitches modulate through that is awesome. Crazy how such an in the shadows band had such a huge influence on the evolution of music, but there are LOTS of those guys i suppose.
As a Romanian, I have never met people from Zalău and I wonder if they exist - but I am glad you mention it. :D
hahahahahaahahahah
I love this series!!
This was always my favorite 2 patterns love the feel of the floating syncopations it's like a dance . 5 and 7 very cool . Great job reminds me of plant X band I can hear Virgil donati influence there . Amazing
I used this polyrhythm for the second half of an EDM track called Eris & Dysnomia. Soft synth plucks for the 5, top drums for the 7. Then the bass comes in with a 3 note arpeggio, which finally settles in when the 4-on-the-floor kick comes in. By the time all the elements are present, the shadow of a melody begins to loom overhead, followed by two drops: one emphasizing 3, the next emphasizing 4.
Is it online? Can I hear?
@@YogevGabay I'd be honored if you listened. Check it out here (timestamped): ua-cam.com/video/LDkIPiPAEp4/v-deo.html
This reminds me of a song by Cardiacs called Leaf Scrapings. They did a proper record of that in 2004 but it was written by Tim Smith probably in the late seventies.
Hi and thanks for your videos! :) I find the videos more interesting, when the rhythms are more complex, and I find it more inspiring, when they're less complex (like this one, compared to the other videos :D). Regards :)
Awesome stuff!
Amazing
perfect video
Been running all afternoon and then I get home to this! Nice…
Rock on!
Very good!
Nice!
could you make analysis of dillinger escape plan? it's really crazy what they do on their songs. i'm curious how you would analyze one of their songs! i love you man you're doing a great job!
Thanks dude. Your videos are food for my brain and letting me discover new incredible musicians. Great job man
My pleasure! Happy you like it
Epic!
Melech !
May I suggest I Am That Thirst? As a drummer, your perspective has helped me understand these Haake concepts
Just wait for MAYshuggah. You might be in for a treat !
@@YogevGabay 🙏🙏🙏
Phish is so fuckin good
YOUR THE F-ing BEST
hanks for sharing Glide, normally i think i would have thought the Phish drummer was just farting around playing random clinks and clanks on the cowbell. (it still kinda sounds like that ha ... so hard to do but i can't really tell ha)
❤
Great stuff!
I would love to see an rhythmic analysis of Auras - Pseudo Intellect
This is a more linear way if doing it. If you want to see a truly 5 and 7 that is both at the same time look up Efrain Toro, he's got a full explanation of how to do it, it's mind blowing.
Oh hell yeah I've studied some of his stuff. Simply insane !
חטז' דם טוגד'ר!!!!! אחי אתה אדיר
חחחח גדול
Hey there, if anyone is about to check out 'Gilde' by Phish, here's a 'warning' so to speak. It is ... very ... country. :D
Regards :)
hahahhahah hell yeah. VERY different from Rons tune
check out Capt. Sandals by the Funky Knuckles for a cool 5/7 groove
Hey Yogev!
I love your videos =)
Can you please analyze the tricky piano rhythm in the amazing yet confusing piece 'Dreaming' of Avishai Cohen?
Especially the beginning, before the beat starts. Thanks!
it's just a pattern in 13, going 3-2-4-4 (and subdivided further into 2-1, 2, 2-1-1, 2-1-1). there are a few things going on in there though:
1) it's going by pretty damn quick. it's a surprisingly fast song, given it's relaxed nature. I played a vibraphone arrangement made by my teacher and it took me a minute to realize that the subdivision is going by pretty fast. I ended up slowing it for my initial performance because there are some things in there (and especially in the solo arrangement I was playing) that get a bit blurry and kind of hard to pick out if you don't already know the song by heart.
2) the intro is just Eb in alternating octaves, but because it's alternating every note - and there are 9 notes in a bar - you actually get a pattern that repeats every 2 bars, in 26 if you will. This elongated pattern kind of distances itself from the relatively clear melodies.
3) holding the pedal really makes some of the notes almost legato in the sense that the attack of the note is relatively ambiguous. If you know what to count, it's real easy - but it's hard to really latch onto something without already knowing the rhythmic geometry (that's an album name for sure)
so that's the intro, the rest of the melody is also very strictly following this pattern, just with less notes in-between (more of the 3-2-4-4 thing) - but things start to go kind of wild when the piano groove kicks in. I think it's around the 2:00 minute mark and the chords come in. the thing that really makes this stand out is the fact that the first chord stab is actually on the second beat, making the entire thing even more continuous and groovy, with a kind of funk kick to it - makes ya wanna move.
king crimson - THRAK does it as well :)
Love the channel a lot! Really great stuff. A new track called Nightingale by Haken just dropped, and I wonder if you might get a kick out of it. Great drumming!
1:50 I think 35 is "least common multiple" !? Thanks for the video... subscribed
Yup my bad !
thrak king crimson
A breakdown video on Fear of the sky by Karnivool please??
yogev can you break down "the self" by richard spaven? its a groove ive always loved bit have a lot of trouble counting
Such a good song!
He's one of my favorite drummers ever !

What is your cymbal set up? 😳 Nice video BTW
For that live show ?

Awesome as usual! By the way, to be mathematically pedantic, 35 is called the least common multiple of 5 and 7, not the least common denominator.
You my friend, are correct hahahha oops !
camille bigeault did something with 5 over 7 but with doubles in both patterns so the 7 is OxOxOOx and 5 is OxOOx if I remember correctly. tried to learn it but it was fucking impossible. can anyone do this? she is just amazing.
I can! It’s not easy!
@@SpencerBoatkey how did you approach learning this?
@@Koropokel I made a two row grid where I entered all the notes, in order to see how they line up. I started with the "x-x--" and "x-x-x--" (same as in this video).
After that I learned the composite rythm of both rows together. When I could sing the rythm, I learned the sticking..
After that I added the "x-xx-" and "x-x-xx-" (like Camille and Minnerman does).
I still mess it up sometimes, even though I learned it over a year ago.. But really nice party-trick! :) Good luck!
@@SpencerBoatkey thats the same way I tried it but it just seemed like it isnt worth it I mean it would take like 8 hours minimum I feel like
@@Koropokel Program a loop and learn it part by part.. and give it time, see it as a long time project!
It's really nice once you get the hold of it!
But the hard part is to learn to hear it from both the 5- and 7-perspective.. And also change the sticking so you can play it both ways..
It's fun to play it as a fill.. In 4/4 you have to remove 3 beats to make it 32. Sounds pretty insane in triplets too.. :)
Doesn't the outro of Rosetta Stoned by Tool also use this pattern? The guitar is in seven and the bass is in five
Yes yes !
The rhythms are cool or whatever… but I’m more interested in how he’s running effects through an acoustic piano!!
Who is this lame Ron Minis impersonator who doesn't even have blue beard tho
Don't ask. Some hobo that loves the channel and wanted in
