    “The story telling is really patient” That’s a very diplomatic way of saying loooooong and drown out to the point of reaching a serious case of stage 4 boredom….It’s friggin’ brutal.

    Hollywood has lost the plot far to many superhero tv shows and movies made now. What happened to original ideas from writers.

    I looked up the books when this was announced. I have not read them, but got an idea not just it’s themes but where the plot will go. If I am right and this is more of a drama involving generational conflict and how the flaws of on generation molds the next, I think I will adore this.
    Look up Generations: The History of America's Future, 1584 to 2069 for an idea what I mean about how one generation affects the next, and its cycle like nature (though as a theory it has some flaws the authors had to admit exists, like why they think the US civil war occurred 10 years early)

    Another Netflix VIP early access review! ;-p Cheers Chris, this hasn't dropped down under yet, but hopefully by tomorrow for Sat night at home with the movies!
    My favourite super-hero? See my avatar - do you know who that is? ;) Actually, he's not my fave (Gabriel Hess aka Nostromo - but I've had that moniker long before I knew about him, going back to the Alien movies).
    It's Spidey, hands down, with DD as a sentimental close 2nd. I like me a more natural hero :D.

      @@MoviesAndMunchies Sooo....just watched the 1st ep with the wife...not sure about the family drama BS, just not that compelling or well done. Also, the wife can't stand the costumes (my eyes! my eyes!) so won't be watching any more. I'll give another 1 or 2 eps a fair shake, but after Invincible & so many other great animated & live action superhero shows, this is just a bit underwhelming, sorry...

      @@Nostromo2144 You don't need to be sorry in the least. Their superhero costumes are a bit wonky and cheesy. I get that this may not satisfy especially if compared to some of the other super shows. For me, the strongest portion of the show is the journey occurring in the flashbacks. Hope it improves for you!

      @@MoviesAndMunchies Cheers, I do a lot of commuting now we're back in the office, so will no doubt complete the first season at some point ;).
      ----
      Ok, so I started watching ep 2 this weekend (without the Mrs - she tapped out), and boy am I glad I did! The entire season is really about their backstory, some family drama, but never over-sappy or cliched - I mean, can you imagine if you had the weight of the world on your shoulders, all that responsibility AND kidz who have powers like you & can be a royal PITA??? You could almost say there wasn't enough drama! Knowing this is not your typical Marvel/DC superhero action-fest (thanks Chris! ;), made my expectations about this show a lot more realistic & grounded, which in turn actually made the show that much more enjoyable...evidenced by me binge-watching 7 episodes mostly today. Yes, the villains could have been more fleshed out, but then, we have the *real* villains & that ending...no spoilers! ;) I agree with the 4/5 couches & hopefully S2 will really expand on the Union, characters and families, as well as the shades-of-grey villains.

    It took me awhile to get into it - I really like the part from the past and can't wait to find out more about why and how they got superpowers. The younger generation is a meh for me for the most part because I can't stand anxiety riddle young people, especially the daughter, Chloe - she makes me want to stop watching. I guess I can sympathize more with Brandon than her. However, she seems to on a journey so I hope it reaches a point where I want to root for her or she is just a straight up villain. The philosophical argument about killing is also interesting.

    Ok, first did anybody except me get this Stephen King horror vibe during the 1929 origin story? Especially during the Kansas Depression house of horrors scene.
    I honestly like the whole dark aspect horror element of how The Union got their super powers which made this series a plus and not just another superhero clone television series.
    The only negative part I didn’t like about this series was Chloe and her constant whining daddy issues. It was so annoying at first that though out the rest of watching this entire series I would fast forward though all parts with her scenes. She is by far the most unlikeable character in this show in my opinion on par with CW’s Batwoman. Yes, that bad folks.
    The rest of the characters with all their perks and flaws in this show was bearable and watchable overall.
    FYI; I’m pretty sure the Twitter trolls SJW are not going to like the fact that a lot of Asian people in this show got the beat down and worse ☠️ in this first season. “No spoilers”

    They Boys TV show STOLE so many concepts and ideas from the Jupiter´s Legacy comics. The Umbrella Academy too. I mean, just to name one example: The whole concept of superheroes as famous athletes and celebrities. And that´s just one example.

    • @singingchef23
      @singingchef23 3 роки тому +1

      Stealing concepts is laughable. Comics take ideas from each other all the time, its what you do with them that matters.
      FYI those other shows are based on comics as well. The Boys started in 06, Umbrella Academy in 08, Jupiters legacy started in 2017.

    • @gabrielp9646
      @gabrielp9646 3 роки тому +1

      @@singingchef23 First: I know, I read all of those comics years ago, before any TV shows were even announced. Second: Jupiter´s Legacy started in 2013, not 2017. Third: Both the Boys and the Umbrella Academy are extremely different from the original sources. And guess where most of those differences come from (little clue: Its Jupiter´s Legacy). There are entire scenes and complete lines of dialogue that are exactly the same. Literally. And Fourth: It´s true that many take the idea of "stealing concepts" too far, accusing almost every single character of being a copy of another character. That said, there are some FACTS, like the fact that both Batman and Daredevil are a copy of the Pulp Novel character "the Black Bat", or the fact that Thanos was inspired by Darkseid, Deadpool by Deathstroke, Deathstroke by the original Daredevil, etc.

    Jupiters Legacy cant figure out what it wants to be, just finished all eight episodes and despite loving the concept and most of the acting the story is convoluted and lingering due its conflicting story lines and their opposing moods.
    On one side you have the 1920 hero origin story which is focused on great acting, stunning set pieces and spellbinding dark mystery story with heavy Cthulhu vibes to it.
    On the other side we have present superhero time story line where we often only see the after effects of our heroes fights n losses with out actually seeing the fight that was the cause, making the heroes seem like glorified cos players.
    The constant battle of the fake beards and bad ageing make up and the focus on drama doesn't do this story line any favors either, but the actor do the best with what they and i respect them for that.
    In the end The show feels like it cant decide what i wants to be, maybe it would have helped if we actually saw them as the 1920's super heroe's instead of only being told their journey to their powers.

    • @mostlyguesses8385
      @mostlyguesses8385 3 роки тому

      .. Yeah, Jupiter's legacy is too mixed up. First is the time-mix, that was confusing, why not go chronological, when did flashbacks become standard? But I admire the effort at story-telling, kudos, it just paled in comparison when we know they succeed so just wanted to get back to the future.... Second, is the "what should powers be used for" issue is all mixed up,,, if a team get super powers cause they are noble and passed the tests, then afterward they should be unstoppable and unkillable, and then let's see how that changes the world. Do they go on to help build dams, bring rain to deserts, etc.... rather than story instead nullify them by INVENTING FROM NOTHING MAGIC VILLAIN TECH AND 1000 MUTANTS to nullify and balance the superheroes. This renders the world almost like our own, the superheroes are stuck fighting villains with Zero free time to change the world. Third, why not rule the world you Superheroes who proved themselves GOOD, you are noble, you are superpowered, why work for free for mooching politicians -- -up until 1800 if a person was powerful he ruled his country, but they AVOID asking why not rule the world and be like Chinese politicians controlling dissent with tech plus superpowers, are we SOOOOO sure this wouldn't be better a King and forced-passivity but with tech still advancing ????
      Overall, I thank the actors for their efforts, but for these reasons there are no big issues really being debated, they nullified any real new ideas by their story decisions.... ...... Frankly if I was superstrong and could fly I would hire myself out to earn $1 billion a day building canals and roads, stopping a $10 million dollar bank robbery is just a wasteful and minor use of powers - - it is exciting but pointless -- so another pointless tv show...... ........ And this show was slow, 1 fight in modern times and then maybe 1 more week of whining and then a fight vs evil due then the pschic fight so almost barely 1 episode of progress.... But maybe others liked it, so good.

    • @mostlyguesses8385
      @mostlyguesses8385 3 роки тому

      .... I also recommend Hard Magic book series by Correia book, ,,.,, ,superheroes get dragged into WW1 and leave europe half wrecked, then they move on to side jobs until the Japanese marshalling their superheroes clearly is taking over Asia so world looks doomed,,, and then it gets super good from there with great fights using physics and characters having real feelings ,,, this book shows can have interesting plots and Jupiters Legacy in comparison is boringgggggggg. Or to go the other way Steelhart / Reckoners books where powers arise 1920s and the 1% gifted turn into evil villains are too powerful and crush govts and split earth into little city-states, so your King with his court of weaker-villains can give you free energy and build bridges so life is OK but mostly poor plus he is a psycho who if you criticize he crushes your suburb and pulls the heads off your family, that is an interesting idea!!! Makes one regret ever wishing humans could have special powers, do we REALLY want our stupid neighbor who hates immigrants and thinks the world is flat to have superpowers???

    I watched it all the night it came out it was underwhelming as hell. It seemed really low budget and like lazy writing which simply wont work with superhero movies nowa days. There are tons of unexplained plot holes, most of the characters are meaningless to the viewer because you don’t actual get to know them, even the relationships aren’t showcased, they don’t even name drop two of the founding six members. The villains have no noticeable motive other than that their villains, they kill one of the people with the most potential, the flashbacks should have been all one episode. The makeup is bad. The entirety of the show is just slow and for the most part could be cut out and leave you just as knowledgeable. Its feels like it was a waste of time. Brandons character is meaningless in terms of development. It just dragged on it felt like a chore at the end of each episode to click play next. I expected it to keep me hooked. Look at umbrella academy, its also focused on drama and character dev but still keeps you hooked and makes you excited for whats next. It seemed underfunded in a time where quality kills. It needs a snyder cut type situation. It has so much potential but doesn’t touch it. The powers are very copy paste and the ones that aren’t, aren’t really showcased. I just want my time back.

That being said; Jupiter's Legacy is pretentious, predictable and lacks any originality. To compare it to Invincible or The Boys is just... stupid. First off, compare the budget for the shows. Then ask yourself why there was zero advertising for Jupiter's Legacy. It's obvious Netflix had zero faith. I promise you: there won't be a season two. It's that bad.
