Blake Crouch is so underrated, the wayward pines books and series are some of my favorites. the book for dark matter was so good and I had no idea this series was coming out, I’m so excited for it!
Think I'll wait to binge it all 7 weeks from now.
One of my favourite books. Hope they make recursion. Story is even better
I've got that one on my shelf to read, can't wait!!
@@MoviesAndMunchies you’ll love it. Blows dark matter out the water
Cannot agree more, Recursion is my favourite of Crouch. So epic and emotional
Yup,...same thoughts
Just atched the first 2 episodes, easily becoming one of my favorite shows.
Yay! I'm glad to hear this is a good one. I've been waiting for it. You can't beat Dark. I was depressed when they canceled bo Odar & Friese's follow up 1899. And on such a huge cliffhanger!!
what were they thinking??? 1899 was great and was starting to get DARK levels of mindbendingly fantastic. i NEED to find out what happens.
I was really disappointed by that cancellation too! While I get that the first season was convoluted and strange, they've already proven they can tell a complex and layered story filled with difficult concepts and still nail the landing. I know they're working on a couple of other projects, so hopefully Netflix doesn't freak out prematurely and allows them to actually tell their story!
I hope that they make a movie about the Blake Crouch Book Recursion.
I can't wait to read that one. I've got it on my shelf!
I went on a Blake Crouch kick for awhile. But once I hit Upgrade his work really started to get same-y.
I saw that they're still trying to make Recursion into a show on Netflix. That's probably my favorite story and I really hope it works out.
My fav on Apple also is The Shining Girls. Great SciFi.
I loved this book so much and devoured it when it was released. I was like, I'll be damned if this doesn't end up being a movie or show.
With Jennifer Connelly in it, I couldn’t help but think it’s A Beautiful Mind turned Dark Matter after Dark City and Dark Water.
LOL!
Thank you!👍👍👍
Outstanding review. One of your best.
Appreciate that, thank you!
I read the book years ago. Looking forward to watching this. Thanks!
Never read the book or seen the TV series however I do hear that it's like Sliders. For those that know Sliders 90s sci-fi show that follows 4 characters who travel to parallel earths try to get home.
Edgerton. Aussie Aussie Aussie
The first thing came to my mind when I watched the trailer was “another show like Constellation”, which just ended?!…I haven’t seen the first 2 episodes released today.
That's interesting. I didn't see the series but i really excited 😮did you like it?
@@user-soon300 Not great thing. A bit confusing
@@fedepetit to be honest with you i watched the series and i can tell why you think it's confusing but to me it's amazing 😍 just read the quantum..... You will get it
Constellation isn't well written imo It mistakes confusing its audience for being mysterious and complex. It couldn't hack the high wire act
I believe that Dark Matter will be less confusing because it comes from a proven written work.
@@lupewalker5220 well. I agree with you regarding the constellation, there are many errors. But my expectations for these things are positive and I think the mistakes make the series more enjoyable
I'm more of a MOND guy myself, but I'll give this a go Chris. (Plus, I would watch Jennifer paint for 2 hours straight! 😁). Def Primer FTW!
Is she a painter I feel like every movie she is in except for top gun maverick she paints.
I currently don't have a subscription but will for sure watch this the next time I resume a sub!
There are so many great shows on Apple TV, it's certainly one of the most consistent streamers when it comes to quality content!
I just found your beautiful channel and i like the explanation. keep going brother 💪❤
Thanks so much!! I really appreciate that!
Awesome!!
As a reader of the book, oh boy. Can t wait.
How does it compare to Constellation, which I couldn’t finish because it was too convoluted and depressing for me?
just watched both episodes
its def not bad
Do you like it or just it's not bad 😂😂
It's so great
@@cable7152 i agree
I read the book and the series is almost right on for me so far anyway.
It should have been released in a one go.
I read the book some 5 years ago.
I don't remember all details, but I wasn't as enthusiastic about it as you. I still enjoyed it, and was entertained by it, especially the start and the last 100 pages or so. It certainly had a very good finale. But, overall, the book was about 3.5/5 for me. It is one of those books that the more you think about it, the less you rate it :).
However, I always thought it made a very good material for a TV show/movie. I even dare to say that the writer had an adaptation in mind while writing.
Apple is not one of the platforms I have all year, but at some point I will subscribe for a month or two and watch it.
Apple is one of the more consistent streamers when it comes to quality. The series sticks to the heart of the novel, but if you're only so-so on the novel, I'm curious how the show will hit for you!
time crimes is pretty good. predestination is my favorite. triangle is kinda similar which i also really enjoy.
I just recently saw Time Crimes for the first time and really enjoyed it. I don't think I've seen either Predestination or Triangle, but will be adding them to the list, thanks!!
@@MoviesAndMunchies np. would love to hear what you think.
Watched the first episode. It had all the trademark Apple TV beats, quality filming, great actors, VERY slow pace. I just couldn't watch another parallel universe story.
The first two episodes were frustrating since we as the audience knew what happened, but had to slog through Jason trying to figure it out. It was especially frustrating since he was a physicist who tried to build the box years ago and it never dawned on him that's what happened until he found the notes. And a lot of the drama would have been solved if they would have stopped to have a conversation for five minutes before running or beating each other up.
I want to read the book after finishing the 4th episode, but I don't want the plot spoiled for me by doing so. I think I can see where some of the plot could be going. Visiting the lost would be too much of a temptation, I know I would do just that. The last few scenes about his son were gutting.
My dad used to say that good sci-fi is about humanity's reaction to the anomaly (time travel, alternate universes, teleportation, etc) and in some cases, the use of it for selfish needs. I much prefer character-driven story-telling to the spectacle and action for the sake of action. "Dark" was also a favorite of mine.
Dark is my favorite series of all time. I agree, I love character-driven stories as they allow for so much connection and emotional response - even if it's a negative response to a character.
Like your style
When I Jimmy Simpson... I sit down and watch
I like the subject, and I like Joel Edgerton, so I'll watch this, cheers.
I can’t think of anything I have ever seen him in that I thought man that was bad.
@@blankname6629 Same, except The Thing prequel; he was good---movie was utter shit.
@@markpaterson2053 never saw that one
@@blankname6629 Don't bother, it's trash. The 1982 original is possibly the best horror ever made, imo
its good i like it
Jennifer Connolly has certainly aged well! I mean, she’s barely aged at all! Plus, she doesn’t look plastic, stretched, poofed or filled in any way! Refreshing!
Flower shirt????? What have you done with Chris ???
Hahaha! The flannels have been so hot lately... so I thought I'd switch it up with some Hawaiian shirts and a few other short sleeved prints 😂
Counterpart series
Adding it to the list! Thanks!!
4 1/2 🛋️ ill def watch. Are you watching SUGAR in Apple TV? You would like it
I haven't started watching yet, but I really want to - it looks great!
@@MoviesAndMunchies DO NOT WATCH ANY VIDEOS. don’t let people spoil it. Im loving it!!!!!!
@@loladiaz3534 Will do!!
I had lots of problems with this so far. Why make himself drive anywhere? Why not just knock him out and take him where they are going? Why change clothes? Is he worried he will come home in a different shirt and the wife will assume he is a different guy from a parallel world? Why not tell anyone (until the very end of episode 2) that he was abducted and drugged? Why not tell Daniella earlier about their life together to make her understand he isn't making this up? Why not show anyone the cheat ring on his finger? For someone that is supposed to be brilliant he is not doing things in a very smart way to fix the situation he is in except complain he doesn't know what's going on. It's obvious (I did not read the book) that in the parallel world this was all a black-op hush hush operation? I guess from the scary people chasing and shooting at people? I hope this gets better I am about over it already. If it were me being kidnapped in that I car I would pump it up to 90 mph and say you kill me we both go out. He is leaving too much to chance and too easy for something to go wrong. And why are they in the same house?? I mean, a house that a couple buys is usually not a house a bachelor buys.
So..... The question is: Will Dark Matter tie into the Dark universe? Inquiring minds would like to know. 😋
No, no, no! Some similar complexities, but this one is still miles away from being as good as that epic series!
darn spoiler review could have told us you watched it all before telling us the whole thing in this review
I always skip to see how many couches he gives it, you should try that next time.
my 6yr saw the trailer and he's adamant he wants too watch it, he's obsessed with blackholes, physics and multiverse stuff so I understand why.
I imagine its not suitable ??
Is there any sexual content or really graphic deaths??
I wouldn't be showing a 6yo it. It's not a show for kids. Nothing overtly sexual or horrid deaths..yet....but still...he's a 6yo...let him be a kid. This is for mature minds imho.
There's some brutal violence, but not really any sexual stuff. I think this is more geared towards older audiences because of the themes that are explored. While the science is complex, the emotional dilemmas are way more complicated and mature.
