I fly ground attack often, usually front line bombers. I'll share some of what I've learned: - Creeks, ravines, rivers, and hilly areas are great for concealment when available. If you're clever, they will allow you to slip past the enemy unseen. - If you're flying a bomber for ground strike and not base attacking, I find that it helps to take off from the runway so your fighters reach the enemy before you do. That way even if you make a sketchy approach and get spotted, the enemy is less likely to notice, and you're more likely to get help. It's also another opportunity to change your approach if your friendlies spot a mass of enemy over where you planned on attacking. - When doing your ground attack, limit the number of turns you make, and you need to master rudder and throttle control so that you can keep your altitude low! Focus on straight lines; ideally, you should only make one pass over each target area you want to strike before moving to the next one. - keep your engines as cool as possible until it's time to GTFO the target area. - if the enemy fighters are onto you, and it's clear that the end is near: GO OUT IN A BLAZE OF GLORY, COMRADE! Absolutely loved the video. Looking forward to that attacker guide!
IL-2M Type 3 is my personal favorite. Use cannons to instantly delete pillboxes and tanks. Save MG rounds for AAA and light targets. If you can't get a headon I have racked up a ton of kills with the turret.
The AD-2 and AD-4 have a nice benefit of changing the nose attitude downward with flaps deployed, allowing a much shallower or even slightly climbing attack path. So when preparing to attack, airbrake to 350kmh, keep throttle at 100%, retract the brake, and throw those flaps for much easier targeting.
Playing ground strike with a friend or 2 that watches your back from above together with voice chat is my favourite. Really good at scaring smart players away from diving on you and also if things go bad, quite effective at baiting enemies to chase you and then you can maneuver to guide your friendlies right onto the enemies tail.
Thanks for teaching others how to properly ground pound in Air RB. Just a note that light pillboxes you can use less ammo if you fire a burst into the window where the pillbox gun fires from, if your approach angle is facing it. And also, using certain belts for this role (ground attack) with more AP rounds will use less rounds to destroy them compared to other round belts like universal. An example is the American .50 cal use various belt types that mostly have AP-I that is only around 23 mm penetration up close. The ground belt use extra regular AP rounds that increases that to 26 mm penetration. When firing rockets, it's better to get within 500 mm or closer...moving your rocket crosshair to the left or right of the target to simulate where your rocket is attached on your aircraft wing. That way you can get a hit without having both rockets land on the sides of the target. Note that rockets in the game won't take out Pillboxes (it tickles them), only the Light Pillboxes. You need at least 1,000 lbs/500 kg and higher bombs to blow that ground structure with a direct hit. Final note Napalmratte, having videos showing tips on proper positioning/approach on various maps will be helpful for others when playing attacker. Even properly explain the priority targets to provide ticket bleed benefits for your team with that map. This also includes telling players what are the most common approach areas that both teams fly to. That way anyone can pre-plan their route to avoid any dangers that make them fighter food early in the match. But also include going over the bad maps as well and provide some input on making the best of it. It may not win games, but at least you try and go out giving the enemy a bloody nose.
There are a few (best) ground striking rules for allied players: 1. Get your P-51, F7F or similar 2. Fly down to the 1km 3. Kill some grass, trees or light vechicles 4. Crash OR 4.Become killed by axis team
Don’t forget, load up your sports car fighter with bombs and rockets so it’s slow, can’t turn and performs like a bus. Then moan that allied planes are slow and can’t turn.
For me personally I like to destroy the AAA in the area to make it so I don't take damage from them while taking out the targets that matter. For strafing light pillboxes I fire in bursts at the roof of them and it works quite well.
Yeah, especially after seeing his first run where he was turned all yellow from AAA. I agree with taking out soft targets first as fast as possible to move onto more important targets.
Very helpful vid Napalmratte. It confirmed a lot if my gut feelings about what I've been encountering in games. The bug you encountered I've also had over the weekend just gone and I too was able to farm and score a mission maker award. It worked for me this time but it would suck if it cost me an anti mech or worse, a Thunderer.

What I try to do with attackers to save energy because of their general low energy retention is I look at the different targets and try to line them all up straight, then I can make one run and take out 4, maybe 5 targets before needing to turn
Tbh this is how I think every game should be. If all the enemies die you should be able to farm the remaining ground units or land and J out and end it there if you want.
One thing i've discovered with Hydra and SNEB is that if you have even a slight drift from the tail, accuracy will be off ! Also noticed that the accuracy seems more "consistent" when you have a decent speed (above 300kmh) under that, off again !
There are 2 things i want to be added to the ad 4 skyraider, 1: if you look closely on the thumbnail or the ad 4 skyriader in game (when you have the "ffar mighty mouse rockets equiped), you will notice that there are 4 extra pilons on the wings where you could put extra rocket pods or bombs, so why not use them? The skyriader had more than enough power to use extra rocket pods Second thing i want for the ad 4 skyraider is the ability to jettison the rocket pods after you use up all the rockets.
I like your ground pound videos. I would also like to see defensive flying video not only of ground pounders but also fighters, and dogfighting in general.

Now I am out of a kill because he didn’t want to get shot down. Does he still have to pay a repair cost? I think there should be some kind of j lock so people can’t do that.
He pays repair and has to wait a couple of minutes before he can use the crew again. J-ing out is a thing medium skill players do to prevent their fragile ego's from getting shattered. They stop once they get better
Use universal for 20mand aim through the windows of the pillboxes and for .50 cals you gotta attack the roof of the pillboxes with ground targets or universal

When I use the other modes, that "rotation point" is somewhere on the axis between plain and crosshair so you see the crosshair constant overshooting the target. (If the plane goes left, the crosshair goes right, see it as a hourglass shape) Also, in mouse-aim the background is steady, but the plane turns, in other modes the plane stays put, but the background turns.
