Almost always when I hear a remake, I roll my eyes because rarely does the remake fulfill the greatness of the original, but from the first chord, it was clear that this remake not only honored the original but also succeeded in becoming something separate and amazing.
John Rzeznik and the Goo Goo Dolls are criminally underated. My wife and I saw them on tour years ago with Matchbox Twenty, and we both fell in love with the simplicity yet beauty of the song "Come To Me" So much so it was our 1st dance at our wedding!!

I gotta say I agree wholeheartedly on this. I if given the choice between the cover and the original, I would never choose about 95% of covers over their original counterparts. If you aren't going to bring some serious energy to do the song "right" (ex. Disturbed's cover of Simon and Garfunkel) or at least put your indelibly memorable personal touch on it (ex. Johnny Cash's cover of NIN,) then just stay out of the studio on that one. That being said, If you're into the Goo Goo Dolls, they have a pretty solid cover of InXS' "Don't Change".

I was watching the video and it's written March 23rd, my birthday !!! Another great cover from Goo goo Dolls, Give a little bit from Supertramp was great as well. Tom Petty must be proud of this great job, I simply loved it.

Tom Petty was one of my very favorites growing up all thru high school and beyond .... He was on my bucket list to see. I was suppose to go to the last concert he did in San Diego, but something came up and i had to cancel. I was super bummed. Then 1 week later I had the news on and they announced his death and I went into complete shock. I have never forgiven myself for missing that concert. Today i stumbled upon this accidentally. I was curious but worried they would change it like so many do with remakes. I stayed open minded and watched the video. I love both of these bands and not just anybody can do a Tom Petty song the way "he did it" . This was done with much love for their fellow musician and dear friend. You can feel the love and determination as you watch the video of all that went into making it perfect. As I smiled i got a little choked up, & thought to myself..... Tom Petty is looking down and giving that smile with the nod he would give when he liked the way a song turned out. Those of you who knew and and loved him know what I'm talking about. He is definitely saying "YES !" to this remake. FANTASTIC JOB GUYS!

Oh, wow! John is the reason I got back into piano. I admire him and Robbie both. Lost a lot of family the last few years and GGD took me back to a better place and time through listening and learning to play their songs. Helped me rediscover feelings I’d forgotten.
