Hi Geoff - these point motors are interesting especially the pins not needing cut. Many a time I've trimmed PL10E onto find I've taken a bit to much off. Certainly encourage your friend to show his layout on UA-cam. The more N gauge layouts out there the more it will encourage others to go N. Enjoyed your own running session. Cheers Euan

Those point motors look very interesting Geoff. If I need to replace any on mine I will definitely give them a go. I particularly like being able to adjust the height of the pin and the slim nature of the motor. Stephen

I use both the MP1 and MP5 motors on my OO layout. Quiet smooth operation with low profile is ideal for my self-based layout. And the clincher for me was the overall price. When you add up the cost of the motors and Digikeijs 4018 accessory decoders the cost is comparable to a servo based system but far far easier to set up.

Thanks for this is great video. Great to see this "how to" video. I also bought couple months ago MP1 motors for my points (not installed yet). Probably one of the best point motors on the market, based on others review. I will also use Digikeijs DR5000 and DR 4018. Just waiting this to arrive :)

Fantastic layout, and videos. Love the automation you've achieved - well done!! One thing I might do if I were you would be to increase CV3 acceleration to a much higher figure which should smooth out the accelerations of trains and make it more realistic. I don't think you could change the deceleration rates as your stop blocks would probably be over-run - and it looks quite smooth anyway stopping. This is just a minor point as you have worked an amazing feat here!

I'm using Itrain so in this case ive turned CV 3 to 0 as the Itrain controls the speed that i've set for each block etc . with regards to Station Itrain Automatically reduces the speed to a virtual Stop just before the buffer. Ive just changed some of my decoders so I need to also redo the Loco Speed test so Itrain can correctly set the speed for each speed step . As I'm getting more into it I can start to refine the various settings to get it very smooth . Geoff
@@flinthillsmodelrailway Oh of course, each loco has to be speed profiled - I forgot that. Does this mean every loco whether diesel or steam, fast or slow gets the same setup? How do you make it more realistic if that is so - say a steam loco chugging slowly but an electric unit accelerating quickly? Looking forward to the next vid!
Hi Geoff, great video and the only decent one I can find that includes the accessory decoder. Quick question though, how would I wire these in for polarity change where I have added a wire to the frog? (on the cobalt IP's I have that is fairly easy), also am thinking of using my existing DCC loop to power the decoder, did or could you foresee any issues this might with Railcom?. For me these will be great under my upper layer and on the points I have on my incline.
Hi Alan , only just noticed your Comment . on the MP1 point motors there is a built in switch to change the Frog Polarity. I don't understand you 2nd Question regarding powering the decoder . I have run a Separate BUS for all the Accessory decoders . Geoff
Hi Mike thanks for your comments , the Points and signals in my case are all connected Via an accessory Decoder ( digikijes DR4018) which is simpley connected to the Track output of your DDC command station so elink should work . Geoff
Hi Geoff, I was pleasantly surprised to find your great and helpful video - as I hadn't come across MTB point motors before. please can you advise me (an absolute novice at railway modelling) what is the ideal way to power up these point motors (I've just got 2xMP5's from DCC Train Automation) for a DC layout - power supply unit and switch??? thanks Jeff for the reply . the good news is that you purchase these MTB point motors from James at DCC train automation. James is great, very helpful and is also the best person to ask . James did set one up with a switch on his you tube channel for DC ua-cam.com/video/KFk8tWSW6u8/v-deo.html. If i was running just DC i would use a double throw Switch . i would run the positive of the 12v DC to the common of the Point motor . i would then run the poz1 and poz 2 two wires from the point motor to my double throw Switch . and then to finish run the negative from the 12v DC supply to the common of the Switch . Any issues please get back Geoff

Hi Bob , Totally agree . its got us thinking of modifying our old club layout with troublesome servo's with these .
