Im running a big IT Company, we do motherboards repair, the whole company started because of you, i learnt from you, you made it so simple for me, bro im telling you, im the best now because if you, Im from South Africa. The whole city they respect me but they dont know that i learnt from you. Today i did a video repairing a board, i mentioned your name Sorin and your youtube Channel. Mr Sorin, pls never ever remove a pwm ic n plug in charger ever it will result in 19v getting to 3v / 5v rails which will result in catastrophie. That burnt ic produces the ldos, n the 3.3,5v alws.

As I'm getting older I get upset for longer every time I fail to repair something. Is it my lack of knowledge or an unrepairable device? This is a good reminder that sometimes you just can't. Thanks Sorin

I think its really important to show the non fixable ones. Reason being is that you can show what to look for in a situation like this so that those learning from you do not end up wasting their time. There are very few videos that discuss troubleshooting the PCH/Processor/Video chipsets as to whether the problem lies with them or elsewhere. So, This is really important to watch.
I, For one, Would love to see more videos on the chipset and processor / video chip circuits. Specifically the Vcore rail failures and trouble shooting.
Thank you for such a good video.

Great video Sorin! It's good to see the diagnosing process step by step and get all the way down to the chipset. At which point it's just too expensive to repair instead of getting a new board.

Mult succes

I've spent hours watching this channel and what options we can take when a diode forced a system to stop working, or a mosfet needs a jumper instead of replacing, or how to make a liquid flux, etc! Now I have an issue with an HP Z240 tower workstation, it won't start but when plugged in, the white LED blinks 2x every 2 seconds and won't stop (until unplugged) I guess its time I try one of your fixes/method of checking with my multimeter but I don't have the schematics of this system. Perhaps you can point me to the right direction, thanks.

One question. Is the processor hard coded to this motherboard and with the bios on this motherboard and thats the reason why it cant be fixed or it could be fixed but there is nowhere to find the processor (like ebay aliexpress etc)?.

Sad to see that it cant be repaired but replacing the board would prob cost more than buying a new laptop , i repair laptops too but i dont have the right tools like you have i just check the boards for burns or cracks ,i clean them up before trying them and making sure the connectors are in place, some mother boards wont power on if the wrong memories are in , check the battery and chargers and cpu for cleaning and repaste , when i had to repair my sisters laptop Acer the board had blown and cost £66 for a new one maybe worth buying it but not for one over £100 or more!

    • @piernov
      @piernov 4 роки тому +2

Some laptops have TVS diodes on the USB data lines, some don't. Unfortunately even with TVS diodes other components can die as well. It's a good measure but it's not a full protection. A power switch with OCP for power lines and an optoisolator for the data lines would protect better, but it's not practically and economically viable to put them everywhere. Some laptops do use a power switch with OCP, but I haven't seen optoisolation on laptops yet as it makes little sense, they are rather used in some industrial equipment.

Take a continuity tester. Trace the path from the button to the embedded controller.
      - Is the button connected via a flat cable? Sometimes the connection here is faulty. Mostly because the cable has broken lamells.
You can (only for testing) short the contact on the mainboard (the on that goes to the button) to ground. Does the mainboard start then?

The PCH died as a result of the event that happened on the USB port, not from the customer trying to fix it. But it's true that in general someone trying to fix a machine without knowledge and experience can make it worse. That's how you actually get experience though.

This laptop was doomed from the beginning. Replacing a PCH isn’t easy.
But what I learned while repairing motherboards is to check the usb data lines and HDD plugs for shorts. If there any most likely the PCH is defect.
Second is BIOS corrupted followed by I/O shorted somewhere.

with motherboard like this one with almost everything integrated/solder on board price will be probably somewhere near working used one. Best way from here is to sold screen and case on ebay, maybe SSD's depend of model and just buy something else.

@@lukedavis436 thanks to 1440p I can tell you that is ASUS ZenBook UX301 featuring i7-4558U and dual 256GB SSD's in RAID configuration, just in case you find single SSD slow. You know, in laptop. After all these 5400rpm HDD which we have and love for years for speed they gave us :))

@@lukedavis436 I rarely have use for notebooks and even when I need one my old EliteBook 8460p is still up to the task. Thinking about buying something newer a year back but to get something similar (but obviously newer, better and faster and lighter) I need to spend much more than I'm willing to give on something uses almost never. And for less money I can get one of these plastic-fantastic toys with hinges waiting to break from a breeze. I think I'll maybe just put bigger SSD in this one, it came with 128GB but MS have mission to make windows folder about that size in near future.

Can you spell the petrol name you use please. Great video again. You can`t fix them all.

Zippo - when his says petrol he actually means the Zippo branded lighter refill fluid that cigarette smokers may use to refill their cigarette lighter with.

Any brand of lighter fluid will do since they are all petroleum based.

You 're sure that little 3 pin things are regulators? They seem like diodes...

The one near the coin cell battery connector could be the dual diode between RTC power rail, 3V LDO rail and coin cell battery, if that's what you are referring to.

Sir, I need your advice please.
my new laptop stopped to output 4K resolution to TV ("no signal")
when I switch to FHD resolution it's fine.
it's worked fine at 4K until before 2 weeks, its a new laptop (only 2 months)
I tested 10 HDMI 2.0 cables, few TV's, and reinstalled drivers and windows.
could this symptom indicate a malfunction in the HDMI port?
    Video of the problem:
    ua-cam.com/video/T6DQgIZD1ng/v-deo.html
Im not sure if they will replace the port, or just replace the whole motherboard

Issue with superio. Or remove the ram, use a eraser to rub the pins on the ram to clean it and try.
