Nice to see this little guy still getting a mention :) Have to say you need the ergonomic grip case, cheap from gpd’s aliexpress store and worth every dollar, makes longer play sessions a load more viable, but the tradeoff is it no longer fits in the dock without modification, and i would recommend just getting another usb c dock after getting the grip because theres no way youd take the grip off every time you want to dock it, i use a nice baseus one made for mac books with a right angle usb c plug, also windows 11 is getting better on it now, wasn’t great to begin with, but its catering more and more to these small portable touch devices erupting all over the place that dont always have the slide out keyboard with things like predictive text and touch accomodations being a lot better than win 10, i must say, this thing gets far more of my play time than i expected with games i own but never choose to play on my main gaming pc. If you already have an external graphic card this thing works great too - even if the cpu is weaker than your average desktop and you lose a bit of performance from reduced pcie lanes but pretty funny plugging something like a 3080 into something this size lol. Great Review!
I can get like 8 hours out of mine using battery saver in windows 11 doing lite tasks like web browsing and watching youtube, i also wiped the ssd when i got my unit and replaced the ssd with a larger one and a clean windows install.
I had the GPD win 3 awesome small device but I sold it since I already had the Aya neo and onexplayer. The portability is amazing since is a very small computer.
If your looking for something to try with the device, I've heard good things about the holo iso steamos3 conversion. There is also on the fly tdp changing, like using 15w onthego, and 30/35 when docked.
I appreciate the time I can play on this device. Served the purpose and plays games I've wanted to play on a handheld. Only thing Bioshock kept crashing on me 😔
It's a late review of the win 3 but I think you made a good review of the key points. GPD really should lower the price with competition. Otherwise it was a major inspiration to building my own handheld like it with a sliding screen and keyboard. These handhelds are a really nice fresh perspective of what we can all do with computers
Windows 11 works great on this, but you have to upgrade yourself, do not download the Windows 11 image from GPD. When I tried that (twice) the fingerprint reader would not start. So I ran the Windows 10 image from GPD , after starting it up Windows asked me If I wanted 11 and upgraded automatically and now it works fine I've tested most everything on it and it works.
How about virtualization? is it work well on your windows 11, mine just messed up on Virtualization, android emulator won't start, xbox game bar latest update (green icon) won't run, and WSA developer setup also won't start. So I leave it and hoping there's new driver update for it.
im late on this im sure. but best tdp is at 30000/35000 in bios. and high performance power profile. the grip shell they sell is awsome! it fits perfectly and feels nice to play. the newest drivers as of writing this have halo infinate all lo 782p 60 fps multiplayer. i love my device and i also love my steam deck. both have there use cases. i have many others for lots of reasons.
Thanks for making this video, I like gpds portability aspect and sort of reminds me of the vitas lay out. if the price point wasn’t as steep or if performance was on par with steam deck I’d get a gpd over it. I also do wish the analogs were in place of the buttons in stead of on the top
@@vault911 wrong. It was 950$ at launch with the Kickstarter, and 1,000 with the included dock. I would know, I bought it during the Kickstarter campaign
All these handhelds im seeing are nice but they are all too expensive. Valve, Ayn, & nintendo least are more budget friendly. Though heard their some decent retro style ones i should look at, some which have actual cartridges which is rare to see with modern handhelds.
@@TechSummitTV It's an annoyance to take off to dock, but it's so much more comfortable whilst playing that it's worth. You can still charge it, just not dock because the type c connector on the dock isn't long enough to reach past the silicone case.
@@jamielewis410 that's not nice. The gpd win 3 isn't worth its asking price but it does have a few things going for it over the steam deck. It was a much better deal being a year and a half earlier than the steam deck but with competition the price should come down. I hope more hand helds can learn to be more pocket friendly and find a way to have a keyboard and dock.
@@jamielewis410 not really, just find that elden ring is best at slightly higher tdp. The battery is 44wh so 25w is more than 1 hour FYI. 20-25w will be 1.5 - 2hrs. btw FF 15 runs fine at 15 watts and so does mgs 5 :). Oh and I git the gpd at Kickstarter last year... so not 700 extra.
Cool review. I've been wanting one of these really badly since I first came across it, but I can't afford it. It's cool to see Elden Ring running on one of these little things despite the issues. I'm hoping by the time I can afford one, they've upgraded the device quite a bit.
actually, you can find them for sub 900 now, it's performance can actually outperform the deck in different areas, it's smaller lighter and has a built in keyboard, and has egpu support. so... it's a matter of preference.

your audio is so clean , the sole reason i subscribed
You should install Fedora Linux on it as its a lighter operating system both in terms of how much system resources it consumes and battery life.
Thanks for the heads-up. I might consider it.
Just turn on battery saver mode on windows. It wont make much difference on my experience

The grip attachment makes the ergonomics really good. I got my win 3 for 999, with the dock, not sure where he got his for 1300

Get the silicon case, it makes it much more ergonomic. Issue though is you can't use the GPD dock whilst the case is on.
