Greetings from Finland & thanks for this reaction video. Just to set the record straight, Floor never trained to be an opera singer. Her main focus was on rock/metal music at the Rock Academy of the Netherlands. However, she also studied musical theatre part-time for a year & opera for one additional year also part-time. After that she quit with these studies because she found the vocal techniques of operatic singing too restrictive for he singing ambitions.
P.S. Has anyone ever told you that you have a striking resemblance to Conan O'Brien?
You should definately look in to High Hopes from Nightwish!
Floor was always a metal singer, but as she considers herself as a vocal nerd, she wants to get as much in her vocal toolbox as possible. She started at the age of 16 in 1997 with the band After Forever. In 1999 she attended the then new 'Rock academy' and graduated in 2003. After that she went to the conservatory for two years (1 year music theatre and 1 year classical/operatic).
"Bulges where there shouldn't be bulges, and not in a good way!" That put me on the floor 🤣🤣🤣
That event was in front of 82,000 fans all having a fantastic time!
awesome concert.
I have never seen someone as charismatic as Floor. She has the whole crowd in her hand. How about Marko?? I love when he chimes in with his vocal parts. Thanks for doing this reaction!
The part where tuomas puts his hand to his head like ‘my god what kind of monster have we created here?’ While floor is Mesmerizing the crowd.
then you've never seen tarja
@@brickbreaker666 I like Tarja.
Charisma? Freddy Mercury. 'Nuff said, buuut yes, she is amazing, too. Can't think of any singer living that is better in the charisma dept, though I'm sure Steven Tyler would think differently.
You want to see crowd control? Rammstein - Du Hast (live in Paris)... Bands have fans, Rammstein has an army.
She's committed to her art. Her honesty in putting herself fully into everything she does it what makes her so good at what she does. IMO.
I love how the crowd surfing people are doing the rocking out hand/arm gestures 🤘 while they are crowd surfing… 😂 ♥️
Nightwish Army, Alaska chapter checking in. ♥️ ❄️
Tuomas, beginning of the concert: Can she do it in front of 82000 people????
Tuomas, during Amaranth: HELL YEAAAH!!!!
Tuomas, end of the concert: Floor needs to stay as the official front woman... 2 months or so, later they signed the contract (remember, at Wacken, Floor was still the session singer that was asked to come rescue NW world tour only 10 months or so earlier)
Floor and Marco... it is often playfull because they are both such a good capebel singers. Before this legendary concert they ofcourse did more concerts/versions filmed and recorded by fans and you can see that Floor layed the perfect base to come in, totally not because she is tired. I am sure she and Marco liked to play because they could and it speaks for itself that there is and was a great respect for the ten years part contribution Marco allready did with and so much more before Nightwish. In 2012 they allready sang together. Its a joye to see and hear. This Nightwish is not about egos but loving what they do together. (but this i just my impression)
Hi, Happy New Year ! I'm happy to see you going back to Nightwish. Thank you for this reaction and analysis :) About Floor Jansen, she was already the lead singer of After Forever (a symphonic Metal Band) when she went to the conservatory to be trained in classical singing. Its like Simone Simons who took at 14, 3 years lessons of classical singing because she wanted to be a Symphonic Metal singer (after hearing Nightwish by the way).
8:02, it was at this moment Toumas realised he has found the one.
And then incredulous, hands on head, at how Floor had wound up the 82,000 crowd.
@@572Btriode
8:02 - 8:11 Tuomas was living it and loving it!! 👏 🤘 💜
@@572Btriode
8:07 Marko also has a little cheeky grin and foot stomp going on!
Awesome great music. 👍
"Amaranth"
Baptized with a perfect name
The doubting one by heart
Alone without himself
War between him and the day
Need someone to blame
In the end, little he can do alone
You believe but what you see?
You receive but what you give?
Caress the one, the never-fading
Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak
Apart from the wandering pack
In this brief flight of time we reach
For the ones, whoever dare
You believe but what you see?
You receive but what you give?
Caress the one, the never-fading
Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak [x2]
Reaching, searching for something untouched
Hearing voices of the never-fading calling
Calling [x2]
Caress the one, the never-fading
Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak [x2]
Daybreak!
I think Floor was already a rock/metal singer *before* her operatic training. The training was mostly to improve/facilitate what she was already doing. Not so much the "opera singer turnt rock singer" scenario a la Pat Benatar.
Was just going to post almost exactly this.
She also spent a few years at the rock academy in the netherlands. Then about 2 years classical training. She started with After Forever at the age of 16.
She has said herself that she absolutely prefers the metal singing over classical.
Uuuuuh yes, that's what I wanted to post as well. You two beat me to it.
Finally! :D Glad to see you back with Nightwish, Ken! Hoping this isn't an oddity :)
Another opera-trained singer who's moved to Broadway/rock/blues is Morgan James. Check out her work with Postmodern Jukebox. Her covers of "Dream On", "Take Me to Church" and "Maps" are terrific.
8:15 - “does that not seem like an incredible party”.
Also check out “I Want My Tears Back” live in Beunos Aires then
“Last Ride of the Day” at the Masters of Rock Show. Also
“Shudder before the Beautiful” at the Rockin in Rio Show.
All good vibes!! 😊
Wacken 2013, had all the planets in alignment, with 82,000 fans going "bug shit crazy." To be there would have been magical, to say the least.
Thank you for showing Nightwish some love.
Have a Happy New Year.
Greetings from Florida.
Wacken🤟🏻 Yes!! Another good song of Nightwish is "Song on myself" or "the poet an the pendulum"
Cool reaction! Yes the Energy and passion is everytime suprising!
Glad to see that the holiday wine is still flowing in the Levigne household. Always enjoy a good Nightwish reaction.
Great reaction. Wacken was a great party is appropiate, and this is just one of the performed songs of the fantastic set..
Outstanding. Can't wait for you to give a listen to their new album
She was 16 years old when she was in her first metal band ( After Forever) she had opera and musical training after the rock accademy, soo she is a metal singer at first
Frankly i had fallen butt over tea kettle for this amazing group of musicians,, it's ALWAYS a JOY to watch someone react to what they've not heard before..some of the fun is knowing whats about to occur and seeing the facial expression as the performance explodes in their head..
I love the reaction that Tuomas has when Floor makes the crowd go ballistic. Floor adds more energy to the song.
Agreed...and Marko is grinning from ear to ear!
And Tuomas completely forgets to play the keyboard. He's just blown away and having fun.
Amaranth is about a Finnish painting The Wounded Angel and also a flower. In the album version with Anette Olzon as singer, you see the wounded fallen angel and the people in the village are confused, should they save or kill the angel, because a wounded fallen angel can also mean the Devil
I wish you good luck , good health and much love for the year 2022!
It was a magical Night. I wish I was there. This was a single for Nightwish from 2007. Marko loves to add some epic pickup vocals to bring the song back in from the softer sections. Have a great New year Ken! 2022 🥂🎊🎉🙏
Ken, if you enjoyed this one and called it a party, you should really check out "I Want My Tears Back" from Buenos Aires 2018, or even from this very Wacken concert...that's a real party, for the band, audience and viewers!
Nightwish - First US date 5-7-2022, Lowell, MA Tickets on sale now!
More Nightwish please!
No, she never trained to become an opera singer. She did opera only for 1 year. She likes the technique of opera singing.
She started singing in school and was at the same time in a Metal band age 16.
She is a vocal nerd or as a vocal coach called her ' vocal Sorceress '.
We call her of course the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. (Metal head and Empath)
HAIL the Goddess Floor 😍😍😍😍😍
It's a song from "the between period" that's just over. Floor fills Tarias shoes, but at this point it is many years since the band said said goodbye to Taria and many of the new fans know best, the songs written for Anette.
You might have got one thing not correct - she studied at a Rockakademie, the opera singing was just part of consecutive education. I don't think she ever considered to be an opera singer.
She didn't in fact that is why she sings many of the older songs in a totally different way than Tarja (she was pure operatic) used to do. She has always been a metal head. 🤘🏼
@Kai To Yes she did, also check out her Vilja lied for Henk Poort. But it was not what she wanted to become. She didn't have ambition to become an opera singer, she always wanted to be a metal singer. See her interview in the reunion of the Rockacademy.
@Kai To I have seen that, but I don't think that she wanted to become an opera singer, as the reactor said in his introduction. It was just part of her education. (And that is exactly what I have written above)
This is a great song (of course it is - it's Nightwish!), but I don't think it demonstrates either Floor or Marko's vocals as well as most of the other songs in their Wacken 2013 set. A great feelgood performance as you point out, but Floor seems very much in her vocal comfort zone throughout.
Floor, as others have pointed out, never did any extensive 'opera' training. She did a year of classical training as part of her studies, which mainly consisted of contemporary singing techniques (she was already a superb 'untrained' singer, as her early work with After Forever demonstrates). She very deliberately chose to sing rock and metal, influenced by great female rock singers such as Anneke Van Giersbergen and Skin from Skunk Anansie, that started out in the 90s.
Nightwish did an EPIC version of Phantom of the Opera (Floor Jansen and Henk Poort duet)! Amsterdam November 2022, the official video!
Heres is Marko on lead vocals doing a Pink Floyd cover ,another one of the great voices of Nightwish.... @
I haven't seen Nightwish from you for a while. Glad to see you come back to them.
BTW, it's not Yensen either 😀
Yahn-sen
Floor always wanted to be in metal an went to the Rock Academy where she did some operatic training - a small amount.
She is a metal singer who can sing anything else at all.
Referring to a comment below about Eastern music, try Nightwish's Sahara from Tampa. Very different and things you probably won't have heard Floor do anywhere else.
And if you think the Wacken audience is amazing try I Want My Tears Back from Buenos Aires 2018. The South American audience is something else.
Thanks Ken.
Wacken is every year a big Party, we hope 2022 !
The amount of views nightwish gives to reactors (especially when you compare the videos with the latest previous ones) always amazes me. Kind of why I think they should do react to the band a little more often, especially high quality reactors like Ken. I understand it's not about the views but still, can't resist to ask as part of the NWA

The way you were rambling was funny! Look up floor Jansen and opera..she's there..
Hi Ken. Inexcusably late to the party, I know but still.. Have read all the interesting comments, correcting your assumption that Floor started out as an opera singer who ended up in the metal scene. That would've been a great story in itself and it happened to other songsters, just not to Floor. But the point you were making though, still stands and that is why I'd like to add Floor's own comments here in support of what you said abt 'scaling down' to serve the song.
Because in the German show called "Sing meinen Song" currently broadcast on tv, Floor underlined your comments in the same vein. Since 'Amaranth' was never meant as a (symphonic) metal song, she has always found it a challenge (in a positive way) to sing it "poppy-style" without completely disconnecting from her vocal identity, so to speak. So all of this rambling of mine just to say that Floor concurs! ;-) Cheers from Amsterdam!
When you explained how hard it is to switch from operatic to other singing styles, I remembered the documentary about the making of the West SIde Story in 1984 conducted by Leonard Bernstein, with José Carreras and Kiri Te Kanawa. Bernstein had a hard time trying to let Carreras sing more rhythmically (or maybe it was Carreras that had a hard time).
I love your video reactions! Please @KenLavigne react to Poets of the fall💙 Temple of thought acoustic! Marko's voice is amazing, I'm sure you're going to like it! Greetings from Finland! 🇫🇮
"park & bark" LOL!
I want some of whatever Ken has been having.
It would be great if you would look at the Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley. It is truly a work of art with some of Floor's finest vocals.
I became like number 666 right as you said "heavenly notes" @ right before a minute in.
It is so nice to hear a singer who's voice has such breadth of ability singing with Nightwish. Sadly both previous singers had a quite narrow range of vocals and neither could have sung each others songs properly.
Great Reaction ! You should definately check out "the poet and the Pendulum" . Its one of their greatest and most emotional Songs.
My suggestion is another cover of them, which we hardly see on UA-cam.
And if you like a heavy Nightwish sound,
this will be a very nice one.
Marco is singing solo on this one.
Check out their cover of Megadeth, symphony of destruction.
The second also hardly on UA-cam, is a heavy Siren, The Siren performed live of course by Floor Jansen. 🤘🏻❤️🇳🇱
Enjoy it, and I with you!
I have a suggestion...us both being Canadian
..my friends in Sven Gali (yes, theyre back!!!!) covering the Triumph classic Spellbound...please!
A great review, Mr. Ken. Now, I'm begging you, please, review Diamanda Galas' Skotoseme, as performed on the John Stewart Show, 1994. I, simply, can't figure out how she makes such sounds. Purportedly, she's a 6 octave range. So, it would make for an engaging review. Best, J.
For gods sake do more from this concert. Storytime and Everdream are good examples.
You should do "Be Italian by Fergie" from the Musical Movie Nine.
Floor never studied to become an opera singer, she was always a hard rock metal singer who also trained in several different singing styles including opera, to broaden her abilities as a singer/performer.
To know how many totally different genres she can sing, maybe listen to some of her covers from her own YT channel. All different kind of songs, from frozen to adagio, alone and so on. Gives a better idea of her insane range of singing. By the way, she is a vocal coach her self.
She did not train to be an opera singer. She was a metal singer right from the start. She just explored into classical, musical, and other stuff to learn more.
Ken, if you would like to have a better understanding of the metal world I would suggest the documentary movie Metal: A Headbangers Journey and the mini series The Evolution of Metal. Both were directed by Sam Dunn.
Happy new year! Great seeing you got back to Nightwish. :) OK be honest now. How many glasses of wine did you drink before making this video? lol
Tuomas can but stand with his hands on his head when the crowed kicked in :D
Great comment. Greetings.
Thank you! I was a completely new subscriber when I made the recommendation and now wish you had gone with my second recommendation, Anthem to the Estranged by Metal Church! I love this song, but you have done quite a bit of Nightwish. Note to self, next time do a more thorough search before making suggestions! Lol
Floor didn't train to be an opera singer. She had like a years worth of training. She mostly trained to be a metal singer. You might be getting her confused with Tarja.
Dear Kevin, it's the other way around when it comes to Floor's background. First she studied singing at the Rock Academy in Tilburg, the Netherlands. After having done that, she also took classical lessons. She isn't educated to be a opera singer like the great opera singers are.
❤❤❤
If you like Rock vocals listen to Constance by Spiritbox.
Pls do Rammstein!!!
-Ich tu dir weh
-Rammlied
-Deutschland
You won’t be disapointed vocally
Nothing to add to the performance BUT: just think of the following ... at Wacken Open Air there are 80.000 people (in 2013) and it is one of the, if not the most peaceful festival in the world. Police is present as well as security but they have not much to do. Metal Fans often look wild and agressive but they are so chilled and peaceful ... drinking some beer and having a good time together ... thats all they want
If you want to do another beatbox video King Inertia - Solo Elimination is the most popular performance from the recent Grand Beatbox Battle, and has some really cool singing techniques to look at.
Park and Bark...lol lol😂
Can you react to Till Lindemann & ZAZ - Le jardin des larmes
Please? :) greetz from Switzerland
Floor studied Opera and Musical Ken.
Have you heard her singing "the phantom of the opera" (duet with Henk Poort), or "O mio bambino cara""
Floor will leave Nightwish to persue a solo career. Lucky me got two tickets for the Nightwish concert coming November in Amsterdam.
Any video of you singing available on youtube?
Both pronunciations are wrong. The 'a' from Janssen is pronounced as an a from 'laugh' or the a from 'Wacken'.
😊🇫🇮❤️🎶🎹🎸🥁✨🤘
Please react to more Shreya Ghoshal's songs
Floor can sing everything what you throw at her! She sings a lady Gaga song better than lady Gaga herself😅 she is amazing❤
Awesome video. Could you do Jonny Farnham- You’re the voice please?
🤘🇫🇮
👍👍👍🇳🇱🤟🤟🤟
tarja turunen has a more trained voice.
floor is a former metal vocalist
We're missing your reactions on Pakistani music Ken!
Plzz react to Arijit Singh Facebook live mast magan and bekhayali
Dear Mr Lavigne!
I love your way to always react so positive and kind on nearly any kind of music presented by your fans. And I would love to hear your opinion to one of my favorite Mongolian singers Epi from the band Violon Babares:

Tarja was the one in training to be a classical/Operatic singer when the guys she knew originally approached her at school to join their new band as the singer. Tarja has said that at the time they did not realize the type of singer she had become. She prefered classical style singing and that became a lot of the Nightwish sound.
Hello, sir are you interested in another culture's music maybe like Arabic music or something?
I'm Egyptian, so if you are interested, please tell me and I will send you a lot of recommendations

Ken, you seem either frustrated or a little tipsy 😂hope it is latter
Hmmm, I have to say - this I do not find one of their most interesting songs.
I honestly hate this song, head me out there is one specific reason I hate it. It ends. . .
Nightwish haben mich noch nie überzeugt. Aber sie haben genug Fans, dass sie mich nicht unbedingt brauchen! 😉
