What is an anti blasphemy law?
@@TJ-JudgeMost middle Eastern countries have it, basically being critical of the state religion is blasphemy and you will be judged according to religious law, usually with Death. This new law is basically the same excpet that it prison instead of Death and applies to whoever takes offense!
@@TJ-Judge A law which prohibits criticism or open opposition to a religion, or even jokes and jibes about religion.
For instance, under this law in Scotland, a comedian who makes a joke about Islam (ie. Billy Connolly's classic joke "I'm only gonna tell you this once") can be arrested on stage for simply making a JOKE about religion because it offends a member of the crowd, or even offends someone watching it on the television or a dvd, or on UA-cam.
You can't even make a joke in your OWN HOME about islam and be protected from prosecution, if someone in or outside your house claims you have offended them, they can have you arrested and it would be enough for the police to get a warrant to enter your house, search everything in it and arrest you.
@@ass640 oh no... thats not a good law. I think people should have a right to mock or criticize anything... that is very important. You cant give the government the power to police normal speach. If we do that we are not far off from tyranny. I do think there should be laws against inciting violence against people of a specific group. Whatever group it may be. But I dont think we should have laws against "blasphemous" speech. And I think the law needs to be careful about ensuring that there is proof that someone was inciting violence and not just saying offensive things. For example... we cant have people opening up class rooms teaching racist hateful idealogy. And just say call that free speech.. if they are teaching children to believe that all people of a certain group are evil and should be exterminated for example. That should not be legal. And I am incensed by these grotesque attempts to hijack the Law to impose what are deeply subjective cultural perspectives on all of us, and to criminalise anyone who demurs.
Yesssssssss, couldn't have put it better myself. Thank you x
There is only one reality and one truth. The most ridiculous phrase du jour is "My truth is..." Identifying as a ferret doesn't make me a ferret.
I half agree with you. For all sorts of metaphysical and spirutual reasons, I don't believe there is only one reality or one truth. Where I take exception is when someone says "my reality is MORE real, MORE valid than yours, and I'm going to try to hijack the Law and our entire culture in order to COMPEL you to mutilate your reality and so it subordinates it to mine".
@@cocobunitacobuni8738 "My truth is..." is in practicality what I feel. And what I feel has never been a substitute for reality.

The cultural issue of gender is more complicated than its biological definition. You can respect people's personal choices about who they want to be, how they want to be addressed or not. You can be as a bigoted or as tolerant as you want.
@@wonderrob3225 it isn’t bigoted to want a clear definition of gender identity and the ability to prove it. To be prosecuted of misgendering someone, first there needs to be proof the person is the gender they claim to identify as. For this there needs to be a definition of the differences between genders, ie what makes a woman a woman and a man a man. If you can not say categorically what a woman is then how can you categorically claim to be one?
@@wonderrob3225 so dealing in truth is bigoted,
@@wycliffeb I'm uncertain about your perception of truth. Perhaps you believe that "there are no definitions of female beyond biology," and therefore denying their existence doesn't equate to bigotry. However, it's self-evident that individuals seeking cultural acknowledgment for gender identities that extend beyond biological definitions do exist. In fact, I'm acquainted with a few young people who are grappling with these matters. They are earnest in their identities, their quest for acceptance, and their aspiration to evade bullying, violence, or hatred. Subjective laws have no place in a democratic society. "TRUTH" is the new HATESPEECH
Kevin Maguire's being a little cute with his details there. It's true that the SNP said misgendering wouldn't be a crime. Siobhian Brown said it.
But later she said that it would be investigated and would be up to police whether to record it as a "non-crime hate incident", which is a hideous construct and negatively impacts someone even if they don't break the law. So despite JK Rowling's stand against it, it's still not clear where the line is here for criminality or for those pernicious "non-crime punishable offences".
We can only hope the SNP are kicked out asap and replaced with someone who will remove these vile laws.
The problem is that Labour and the Greens also voted for this. Who can we vote for to have this repealed?
