Andy from ProGuitarShop and ToneReport checks out the new Phase 95 Mini from MXR. The engineers at MXR have distilled over 40 years of phase shifting knowledge into the M290 Phase 95, MXR's first mini-sized pedal. Now, the argument between Phase 90 and Phase 45 users can finally be put to rest, because the Phase 95 contains both circuits! A pushbutton switch seamlessly toggles between both classic phaser circuits. The Phase 90 is an old-school four-stage FET phaser that's one of the most instantly-recognizible sounds in the world of guitar, sounding full, rich and resonant. The Phase 45 is a two-stage subdued version that players have been using for faux-Leslie and Uni-Vibe tones for decades, and many players never turn it off from day one. On the other side of the enclosure, you get a choice between "Script" and non-Script versions of each phaser. The Script mode shaves a little intensity off the phasing by removing feedback and warms it up for a more classic sound that's belongs in the classic rock hall of fame. Wihin both of these pushbutton switches, MXR gives you four different classic phaser sounds with a box half the size of a standard MXR Phaser. As always, the Speed knob governs the movement of the shifting, from syrup-drip slow to alien-weapon fast, with no bad settings in between. And just like all MXR pedals, the M290 Phase 95 is made by a team of wizards right here in the states.
Not many players have the combination of feel and accuracy for the nuance of classic riffs. And there’s Andy. Great useful demos, fantastic playing.

I bought the new small stone nano with the trippy letters on the front. I went through 3 of them. All crapped out on me. I made sure I wasn't the problem. I even bought a separate power supply made for the pedal and it still crapped out on me. I'm looking for a phase sound like that but something that will last more than a few days.

The 45 slower setting sounded like a good Robin Trower univibe-ish thing, I'm always using an old RMJ MXR 90 clone from the 70's and/or a chorus to get that "warble", nice pedal! Yea, a little Atomic Punk intro would have been cool, but it's obviously got that and then some. I have more respect for Andy every time I watch a demo, great player!

I am more interested in the script setting, which I take is a salute to the custom shop script pedal.... If it can sound like on of the handwired 74 phase 90 without light or power, it would be a miracle and worth every dime.
This pedal is really great. I wanted the 100 but with this offering the 90 and 45 along with the script option, its just as flexible as the 100 but smaller. I tried the Earthquake Grand Orbiter which offers much more options to control how big the sweep is, and adjust the amount of phaser, but it does not have the smooth sound of the MXR. The Grand Orbiter is cleaning sounding and lacks the warmer sound of the MXR

Hey Andy and PGS, another great demo! Love listening! Any way you might be able to demo my favorite phaser(the GTC Sheep Shifter) so ppl could get an idea of what it can do? It's based on a Maestro Stage Phaser, so I believe it's a 5 stager(haha or a stage 5er!) and it sounds glorious! Check out reverb to find it...
Right now, these are the phasers I have:
1. GTC(Guitar Tech Craig)Sheep Shifter
2. Chase Bliss Wombtone mkii
3. Empress Phaser
4. Infanem Compact Faye Sing
5. MXR phase 90(block letters)
6. Boss PH-2 "Super" Phaser
Also have a Strymon Mobius, which has a lot of Phaser options...
That list is also how I rate my phasers as well...
I don't have any affiliation with the maker, I just love the pedal...Since it's a small "company" probably no one has ever heard of it, and phaser lovers need to know about it! I know a review prob won't happen, but thought I'd try to get the word out! It's like $140 or something like that, and imo it beats out my other phaser, some costing double or more!
Speaking about the demo...I'm personally not a fan of the 95 from what I hear, or my 90...but that's because I'm personally not a fan of 2 and 4 stage phasing :/ But I will say that the build quality of my mxr is very high! Still works the few times I use it, and I've had it for close to 15 years!

Ian Anderson What is it with you people on here? Yes, Cale originally wrote the song but that was clearly a cover of Skynyrd's version. The solo was note for note their cover. Nobody's impressed that you and BagBoy know who wrote the song originally.
Can someone tell me what about the input and ouput quality? In normal mxr phasers is 400K in EVH version is 1M, I cant find more

Was that distortion placed before or after the phase or vice versa ? I normally run my ODs and Fuzz before my flanger and love how that works

The Phase 45 side is better in my ears. Sounds like a UniVibe. The 90 side is too sea sick for me.
Can the 45/fast setting do Hendrix?
Kinda but you want a univibe to get the thump sound. I have an love my dejavibe by fultone. Also can recommend the depths by eqd. Awesome effect as well, more versatile. A lot of people like to present phase and univibe as interchangeable, and they probably are to the audience, but as a player I think it's worth it to have both.
That script-LED is so dark that I barely noticed any difference. Is it as bad as this video made it out to be?
The sound is nice though, although I rarely use phaser and don't really see a reason to swap out my script 90.
I have the Phase 95, the Script LED is bright enough. Although as you point out, it does not show up very well on this and other videos.
Now this is how you demo a pedal.
I guess they figured they'd try and capitalize on everyone modding their Phase 90's to include these specs. FX Doctor and others have been doing these mods for YEARS. Regardless, it's still cool and the smaller enclosure is a plus. What I'd really like to see is a new Carbon Copy with a dedicated tap tempo switch and audio improvements, maybe some note division. The Carbon Copy is one of their best pedals (and best selling), they really need to improve it. Thanks MXR.

I've always been for variety and originality, it makes demos much more enjoyable.
exactly, a ton of artists used sg's and phasers but all you'll hear in demos is ac/dc and eruption. i mean, play some black sabbath or frank zappa or even some sister rosetta tharpe with an sg. and some pink floyd (other than the first notes from shine on (which is a geat song tho)) or led zep or catch the rainbow by rainbow. i realy like this demo for that exact reason.
