I love your wood work , I burn plagues that have a clock on it and either a saying or a natures scenes. I have one of those beginners burners that get really really hot !, but the cord is only a foot and a half long. I ready for the next step of burner that has variable heat mess I can adjust. Do you have any preference in brand or model burner?
Thanks Marty!! The Colwood Super Pro II is my go to burner. I'm a bit biased because that's the burner I learned how to burn with, so I'm really comfortable with it. A close second would be the Truart Dual Pen. They are both around the same price, but the Truart comes with more items in the kit.
Thank you for this video. Great ideas. For the tray when you applies the sealant, don't the colors smear? Also for your burns when you use a stain, doesn't the stain colors get trapped in the burns?
The color's don't smear when I seal it. I am extra gentle as to not push the brush in too hard. So I've never had an issue with watercolor pencil smearing with Danish Oil. The gray stain does get into the burn, but that's why I use the clean cloth to remove as much as possible. When I'm using a gray stain, I know that's it's going to cover a little bit of the burn, so I pick a burn design that will look good with the gray. I want the stain and the burn to compliment each other. So, I make sure not to burn anything too intricate and detailed that the gray will diminish the design. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Andrea! The stain does color the burn area a little, but it's so much darker than the stain that you don't see it really. If you look up close you can see a little bit of blue in the letters, but not much.
Hey Theresa, You can get these results with a brass tip kit. If you're looking for a good quality wire tip kit that burns hot through the wood, I don't know of one that you can get for under $100. If anyone on the channel here knows of one, let us know in the comments.
I use an exhaust fan in the ceiling of my shop now; but when I lived in the suburbs, I burned in one of the spare rooms. I used a fan at my desk and a fan in the window. It’s pulled it away from my face and out of the room.
I want to find things that I can make when wood burning that people will Actually buy from me. Selling to me is harder. Cause either I undercharge myself or what I do charge or try to, people seem to not want to pay. Most seem to want it for nothing if they can get away with it.
I agree Andy. It's a challenge for sure because there are so many items mass produce and sold so cheaply that it has set an expectation of price for consumers. The difference is handmade vs premade, and it can be challenging to get people to see the value in having bought a handmade piece vs something mass produced. My experience in successfully selling pieces is creating custom work they can't get anywhere else; or making connections with people so they want to buy a piece because they enjoy me as a person/artist and want to own something I made. I did this for a long time through social media. I was able to show who i am and connect that way and also offer custom work. And if you're offering custom work, you can charge a higher price; people expect to pay more for custom work. :)
So happy to have found your channel. You are an "AWESOME" teacher ! Thank you for sharing ❤

Fantastic video with some great ideas. Thanks so much xx
Thanks Sally! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
Nice video, thanks for sharing! I'm wondering though, how did you make it so the stain did not color the burned areas? TIA!
Thanks Andrea! The stain does color the burn area a little, but it's so much darker than the stain that you don't see it really. If you look up close you can see a little bit of blue in the letters, but not much.
You are amazing! Thanks for sharing *-*

Some really interesting ideas.
Glad you like them!
What is the triangles that are holding the frame up and are you staining over cardboard or spare wood piece?
Those are painters pyramids. It helps it dry without touching a surface.
I'm ready for my birthday 🎂 it's 5 days before Christmas 🎄
What wood burning kit can I use to get these result. Something that will burn through the wood and a reasonable budget under $100.00. Thanks.

Very nice, is that wood tray heavy?
No, the basswood is pretty light. Now these thicker ones are heavier than the regular basswood canvases, but it's not too heavy as a tray.
how do you do with the smoke? I use a good mask, but I can feel the smell yet .

What do you use to trace the image? Is it just a regular pen ?
I use carbon paper under my template and then trace it.
Thank you, great ideas. I'm burning American Flag on a cross today.
Love the bloopers at the end. LOL
😂😂
Blessed holidays. 🤗💐
Thanks Lynda! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Happy Holidays to you as well. :)
